  1. Thanks for 'padding' answer. Is it possible then to swap the rest of the drive unit for higher quality items? (Is this a can of worms?). I would be happy to swap the tweeters and mids for something more transparent........ Paul.
  2. Thing is, whether or not we need to hear all the high frequency stuff is a mute point for me. I honestly don't need to an RTA machine to tell me that the Klipsch have a limited treble response. I can hear it as a lack of air and life at the top.I measured it because of how they sounded, I didn't decide they had a droopy treble after I measured them !. To be honest for me the bass is more of an issue than the treble. It drops very, very fast from about 60Hz downwards. No output worth talking about at 45Hz which is where they are supposed to reach down to without breathing hard. I don't know if I am commiting some kind of sin here but are there better drive units available?, also what is 'padding the tweeter'??. Thanks. Paul.
  3. Well thanks for all advice, I am out of sync with replies being in the UK. Firtly I am 37, male and can hear 19khz test tone through other speakers. Following your other frequency discussions, even bass notes can have a leading edge transient above 20khz, so high frequencies are important. My tweeters appear to be fine and if I put other speakers in the room I can get solid bass down to 30hz easy. I know the K-horns may drive the room differently. So its now getting a bit harder. I am thinking that the treble response from my speakers is perhaps as it should be (droopy) but the bass still seems curtailed. Overall the sound isn't bad enough to suggest a major problem. I wonder if its just the trade off? old design not hi-fi in the modern sense?. Possibly my expectations were too high. I might just have to decide whether or not I can live with the compromises!! Again , thanks for all help. Paul.
  4. I'll do that when I get home. What should the tweeters read?. I know they work at all because they'll both play a 16khz test tone. Thanks mate. GrOz.
  5. Speakers are well sealed in the corners. I notice that the specs do actually show a droopy treble. The speakers sound fine in isolation (though lacking in air and a bit light), compare them with almost any other good speaker and suddenly you hear all the things that they are (or more accurately are not) doing. They fill the room well and image OK but sound a bit opaque when compared with other speakers. Dynamics etc are excellent, its just that they sound like a very big small speaker !!. I thought about supertweeters and subs but then I'm still stuck with the opaque midband............ I just hope someone here can help because they look excellent in the room. Cheers . Paul.
  6. My speakers are a 2000 pair with almost no use, its very unlikely that the crossovers will have deteriorated and the tweeters sound fine, they just don't reach up. Both speakers behave identically. Thanks. Paul.
  7. Sorry to butt in but this is my first go on a forum and I couldn't work out how to start something !!. I need help, I have a late set of Klipschorns, they are set up correctly, in phase and in good nick. I am using them with gear I am familiar with. My problems are that the treble is rolled off (nowt above 17khz at all!) and the bass is very light (not much below 60hz). The speakers also lack transparency. I waited a long time for these speakers and words cannot express my disapointment. Any ideas would be gratefully recieved. Many thanks. GrOz.
