  1. Can't you get CDs (and even SACDs) for $5 each NEW from some internet store? I know Smilin bought a bunch at that price.

It used to be $4.99 but now is at a whoppin' $5.99.

    yourmusic.com

Did you check that out? You have to "subscribe", and then you can buy 1 CD per month for $5.99. Wow.

    Yeah, $5.99 shipped. Wow.

Dude, Keep your mouth shut, ship the CDs to these poor guys, and go away. I can't believe after 6 weeks of this, you would even attempt to be a smartass.

    What a tool.

  2. I get to work starting tomorrow 7am to 7pm Fri. thru Sun. at the powerplant. How else can I afford this great hobby...sell my body,NOT,I am getting too old...but in my day LOL!!

I hope you all have a nice 4th!!!!

    Greg

I always wondered where steamer came from. Now I know - just glad it wasn't for Cleveland Steamer.

Have a nice 4th as well.

  3. Mark,

Thanks for the info on impedence matching. I would like a solid bottom end, but want a balanced system as much as anything.

Any recommendations on a good, affordable (under a grand, pre-owned) that will mate well with your Merlin? The Peach is out of my budget a bit.

    Thanks for your help.

  4. What combos have you tried that have a great mix of a great low end and the warm, lush sound that only tubes will provide?

I am planning on experimenting with a line tube preamp and quality pair of SS monos. My budget is pretty tight for this system. I am looking at the JM Merlin among others?

    Any thoughts?

  5. I ran across this unit on Audiogon from Monarchy Audio. The Model 24 is a 24/96 Tube DAC and Tube Line Preamp for under a grand. I think this is an intro price on Audiogon and it lists for $1,500. This seems like a practical solution for someone with good Solid State amplification that wants to add tubes in their system at an affordable price.

I have owned a pair of Monarchy SE-100 solid state amps and they were a sweet pair. I sold them to finance another project and have regretted it ever since.

  6. Hello,

Due to a $$ forced downsize, I have some stuff for sale.

HWO Pair (#39R097/8). These are in very nice shape. The labels have never been signed and do not have the serial number written on them. They are stamped 'Salesman Sample'. I purchased them from a former audio salesman that won them in a sales contest when working for a Klipsch dealer in VA. They are oiled walnut and have the factory risers installed. Black grills in perfect shape. The cabs have never been opened and they have been taken care of. I would rather not ship, but travel the Carolinas and VA and will make every effort to assist in delivery. $500 OBO

I also have a split LS with a DeanG crossover and 511B Horn. Basically, I cut a LS in half and made a cabinet from Birch plywood and painted it black. I had planned to mount the upper section over my projector screen and have the front of the speakers flush with a curtain, but it never happened. I know there might not be a big market for this one, so I will part some if it and maybe keep a couple spare drivers for my other 2 La Scalas. So, I will sell the Base Bin (a very nice gloss black), one DeanG crossover, and one 511B horn if anyone is looking for those items.

    Pics available upon request. Thanks.
