Hello everyone. I've posted here before but it's been a couple of years. I don't have nearly the knowledge that most of you have (that's why I'm here!), so please forgive any stupid questions....I posted this in the 2-cahnnel forum a couple of cays ago, but haven't received a response, so I thgouth Id try here since it has to do with both areas.
I have a pair of Klipsch KG 3.5's which are the fronts for my home theater set-up. I'm afraid that when I bought them I did what you're not supposed to do, which is buy them without listening to them first. Anyway, I definitely notice the harshness on the high end that a lot of people notice with Klipschs, although I do like the presence and general clarity.
My HT receiver is a JVC RX-888VBK, and my DVD/CD player is a Toshiba SD-2109; both components are several years old now. When I first noticed the harshness, I tried hooking up a nicer Marantz CD player, but it didn't seem to make much difference...I also tried both the digital and analog hook-ups, and again, not much of a difference. The receiver doesn't have conventional treble controls, just a fairly cheesy on-board equalizer...just when I get the high end manageble, I seem to lose presence in the midrange.
So, would a different receiver be in order? I'm probably going to need a new one anyway for HDMI capability. I've read some older posts about the 3.5's, and the consensus seems to be that tube amps round out the high end, but that's not an option for home theatre...(right?).
If there are any of you who think it still might be my source component, please chime in, but I suppose I'm mostly interested in receiver suggestions. Thanks!
