  1. He said he had already found the switch and tried it and it hadn't worked any other suggestions.
  2. Thanks I will call dad and see if he can get it to work, I'll post back if he can't
  3. The record player says it has a preamy build in to solve the problem. That's why we bought the second one, because the first didn't have that. He may have it on the wrong input but I don't think so. What would moving that switch under the rubber mat do??
  4. Alright my dad has a fairly new record player that he was trying to use with his surround sound. Its a newer basic jvc home theater in the box system, nothing fancy. The record player wouldn't work, and I was told by some of my fellow hometheater guys at best buy that it was because with newer receivers the record player much have a preamp. So anyway he buys the sony record player at best buy its the 113 dollar one, which says it has a preamp. He doesn't know how to hook it to the receiver, so I told him for now just to plug it into the front of the tv in the red and white audio jacks and see if it will play through the tv speakers when switch to input 4. Still not working. Does anyone have any suggestions. If I need more details let me know.
  5. If a tv does 1080i isn't it true that it will do 720p as well always? That's what I was told at work, but I've heard different people say different things.
  6. Alright I've asked for opinions on receivers before, but I want to be sure which to go with as I'm about to head to best buy right now and make my choice. So it's between the yamaha 5890 and the pioneer 1015. I know the yamaha has more power, but that isn't everything. I don't really care about the yamaha's zoning feature either. This receiver will be for the synergy series of speakers that I ordered last week (2 f-3's 2 S-3s 12 inch sub, 1 C-3). Of course the pioneer will be cheaper, but with my discount, they are both in my range. Which will give me the best listening for music and movies and some tv. Like I've said I've asked before on advice for receivers but I'm about to go buy one of these two today so I want some final advice.
  7. Thanks for the info If I have a particular question I'll do that. I was just looking for a broad info.
  8. I've begun to post more on this forum trying to learn more. As I've stated before I'm new to home theater in general. There are still many terms and basics I don't know, ex I see the term amp and then preamp used often but don't really know the difference. If anyone could point me to a site with some basic learning tutorials or something like that I'd appreciate it, I would help me cut on my many questions and I'd be learning alot quicker. I'm just wanting to sharpen my basic knowledge before my f-3's arrive. Thanks, and I hope it's not a dumb request, I know most of you know a great deal about home audio, and would be willing to pass some knowledge on. Thanks
  9. Alright thanks I'll check those out and see if we have them in stock. I just want something that isn't flimsy and will hold the speakers without me having to worry about them.
  10. Anyone have any recommendations for stands for my s-3's. I think we they come I would rather have them on stands than mounted on the wall. Plus the wife is crazy about mounting anymore speakers lol. I don't want to spend alot and if anyone knows of any good ones that are sold at best buy let me know, because I get a discount there, but they don't have to be. I Just want something nice but not to pricey that will be stable(I have a cat that likes to not crap over lol)
  11. I've heard the term Clipping before what exactly does it mean. I know cables are marked up rediculously, probably the most of any item at our store. For example a hdmi monster cable for 99 dollars can be bought for around 30 or less. Any advice on some speaker stands for my s-3's, I'm thinking I'd rather have stands than mount them on the wall.
  12. Any tips for care of my system? Like is there an optimal listening level that I should stay at, and will going above a certain level damage my speakers? What kind of cable do you recommend just regular monster cable or AR cable?
  13. Alright I'm back in town from the Auburn game War Eagle lol. Anyway from what I've heard my Best Buy store plans to go magnolia in Feb. of next year, so pretty soon. They are redoing our whole store then from what I've heard. If your curious I work at store 383 in Birmingham, Al. Thanks everyone for the advice and information, I'm sure I will have more questions in the future when I get my speakers in. Thanks again.
  14. So basicly your saying they don't make them like they use to? Like I said before I'm just starting out. I'm still in college just married and don't have tons of money to spend. The only reason I went with the synergy is that is such a good deal since I'm working at best buy. It's something I figured I couldn't pass up, as I won't be working at best buy forever and I could justify spending that kind of money if they were full price right now. I'm off to Auburn now for the game tomorrow, I'll post more when I get back thanks for everyones advice.
  15. Well we have them hooked up to the 5890, and they sound pretty good for what kind of sources are running to them, but I can't really test them out that well in the store I was consider the 5990 that just came out because of the upconversion and hdmi, but I found out it only converts to 480p and not 720 which to me isn't worth the 1000 bucks or 600 in my case. I'll probably go with the yamaha as I ahve a 5830 right now and I'm happy with the interface. I had see several people post on the pioneer so I thought I'd ask about it. One more question. Like I said Im new to home audio, and I've been browsing aroudn the forums for awhile. I see all these people with speakers that they have had for years, nice hersey or whatever for example. Are the ones I'm getting, speakers that are going to last me a long time. How nice are they really, I know there not 6000 dollars speakers that you see in some of the home audio magizines, but being new to this I'm just curious. I'll be watching alot of movies and listening to my collection of music with them.
  16. So I finally went ahead and order my synergy speakers from my bestbuy employee accomidations. I order 2 f-3's, 2 S-3's, 1 c-3, and the 12 inch sub. I'm new to home theater but I think I got some good speakers here. Now its down to the receiver. Working at bestbuy I'm limited on what receivers I can get. I have narrowed it down to two. I can get either of them for around three hundred dollars maybe a little more (Pretty good deal). So which would you match with these speakers. The Pioneer 1015, or the comparable yamaha 5860. Or should I go up and get the 5890 yamaha (get if for around 500 or less) All in all I payed 1032 for the speakers which is great, and I'm not looking to go over 500 for my receiver. Of the three above which would you go with to match the speakers that I purchased. Thanks for the information.
  17. Alright first of all my store (Best Buy) just got in the new Quintet three speakers. We are still carrying the twos as well though. Now im planning to eventually get the f-3 synergy package for my new house, but I checked out the deal I was getting with my discount on the quintets and didn't think I should turn it down. I can always put them in my living room and the others in my entertainment room. Alright so here comes my questions. What is the main difference between the quintet 2 and 3. I was told at work that it was mainly the appearance, but you never know how reliable people at work are. Also I can actually get the 3's for cheaper so I'll probably go with them. THe current receiver I have now is a yamaha 5730 which I got last year. It a 5.1 receiver with 100 watts per channel. I was wondering how well this receiver would run this speakers. I know they will be an improvement over the crappy yamaha speakers that were packaged witht his receiver. So basicly I'm saving up for the f-3 speakers, but I found out I can get the quintets for like 130 bucks, I don't think I should pass that up either. THanks for any input. Stephen
  18. Well there are two different types of discounts. First there are employee discounts through best buy. That means we get stuff at cost or cost plus 5 percent I can't remember. So basicly whatever has a big mark up we get really cheap but some thing hardly a discount at all. For example Cables have a huge mark up. I could get a 8 ft monster hdmi cable regular 149 for like 38 bucks. The second discount is employee accomidation which is what I'm doing to get the speakers. You have to work for best buy and you get discount through certain manufactors. Not all products have these discounts, Klipsch is just nice enough to allow best buy employees to get this opportunity. I did the math though, I will be saving 1100 and something dollars by getting this employee accomidation through klipsch on the speaker set I've selected.
  19. Yes Im studying computer networking I should have my associates by march and then my bachelors in a couple more years. I think computers are the way to go right now Thanks again for all your advice everyone I'll continue to post as I get my peices. I plan to have the set complete around Christmas time as I believe I stated earlier I can't buy them all at once on the buget I'm on with school and working at best buy. But anyway I'll have it all set up probably around Christmas
  20. Thanks steve. I Think I will see how the receiver I have no does once I get the speakers. Like I said its not that nice around 300 or 200 dollars at the time, but we'll see how it does I can always upgrade the receiver if im not happy
  21. Alright we sell the 5860's in store I was considering that one, but I've had quite a few people say the pioneer 1015 that is a similar price was a little bit better system? Any comments on it. So your saying that basicly the RX-V 657 is the same as the 5860, is it just a different marketing or what?
  22. In store we have this system set up running on the yamaha HTR-5890BL which is a 140 x 7 channels. It sounds pretty good. Let me ask two more questions and thanks everyone for the help so far. First if I put a 7.1 receiver with those five speakers it will just take the watts from the 2 im not using and divide them among the five, Is this correct? For example the would that add 56 more watts per channel with the system I stated above, if I'm only using 5 speakers. Second my receiver is a pretty cheap on but does 100 watts per channel. I know that that's not all there is too it, but why are some receivers with less wattage more. Basicly what sets receiver apart from each other besides wattage. Thanks again
  23. Thanks for all the replys guys. Yeah Im an employee at best buy now until I graduate college in march:) That's how Im getting such a great deal. I have listened to them in store and compared them with other floor speakers such as the jbls athena yamaha and its pretty obvious there better. The receiver I have now is a 5.1 yamaha system basicly 100 watts per channel. I really don't think this receiver is going to do, so that's why I was asking for advice on one. I'll check into all the ones you listed, and thanks again. By the way this is the receiver I haver except mine is last years model and only 100 watts by 5 instead of 110. HTR-5830SL is the model number its on the best buy site. Didn't know if i could post outside links on this forum or not. Im considering either the yamaha HTR-5860BL or the pioneer VSX-1015TX but I will definately take a look at everyones suggestions
  24. Let me ask this how good or not are the speakers Im considering? I mean its really a great deal, what im getting them for and all should I take advantage of it.
