  1. I have only been REALLY into audio since November last year, but I'll say what I started with was the worst. Sony SS-MF315s. Floorstanders, 6.5" woofer, something like a 2" mid, 1" dome tweeter. They have strong bass response until you get a little excited with the volume knob, then the "woofers" excursion out. They also have a sound like someone strapped a pillow over the tweeter. I despise the receiver much more than the speakers, though. Sony STR-DE435, supposed 100x5 Dolby 5.1 receiver, begins distorting with only two channels driven just before halfway. It would clip it's happy *** off trying to do 5, in my opinion, and I'm gonna get rid of it with the speakers... I'm straying off the subject now, so I'll end this one.
  2. Howdy all.. been a bit since I've browsed the boards. Did a little modification (some may say bastardization!) to my Heresys today. They're not known for their titanic bass performance, and I was looking to do something about it. My neighbor won auction on some stuff on eBay, part of it being a pair of Speakerlab 1208R woofers. For kicks, I put them in my Klipschs, to see what kind of difference they would make. Well, the difference was stark. They're a little less efficient, but are still significantly stronger in the low frequency than the Heresy woofer. On that receiver, clicking the low frequency boost to raise the bass 3 db (my guess), the 1208s keep up well with the horns, and the bass extends a LOT farther down. Gives a whole new sound to the speakers, as if they've been transformed, or someone hid a powered subwoofer in the room somewhere. The subsonics are just THERE, and they definitely extend much farther down than the stock woofer does, thanks to a lot more excursion and a looser suspension. They don't sound muddy to me, either, the bass is clean, and a lot deeper.. very pleasing. My neighbor (who owns the speakers) gave them a blast, and mentioned that they sound like they extend down to their 21 Hz Fs. They definitely rumble. To me, they sound perfect. Now I gotta find some of these woofers for myself! Kinda hard to find, period, much less in the near mint condition his are in. Ohhhh I'm gonna hate having to give back those things. They've got an Fs of 21 Hz, like a cabinet around 1.7-1.8 cu. ft (About 1.78 cu. ft for the Heresy cab, minus the volume consumed by the internal bracing, crossover, and mid/tweeter... probably close to 1.7 with them, my guess.), they really seemed to make my babies come alive. Now, hopefully I won't be tied to a stake and burned for defacing their Klipschness with Speakerlab drivers!
  3. Wish I could buy that thing, but I don't really know where I'd put it.. Thing would crank, I have an amp to drive it with, as well. Just a case of too much stuff, not enough room for me, though.
  4. I give up! Heh, picture an 18 1/2" 4 section Altec horn sitting beside a Heresy.
  5. Okay, my turn. This is the horn. It's fairly bright, but if I run it off the rear channel (I'm not actually doing movies, so surround's not very important right now) and place the thing on it's side next to the Heresy, it sounds alright.
  6. Well, it's acting up, the image corrupted on upload. Instead of modifying the post, I left it as is so you guys can see what it looks like, and perhaps offer tips as to why it did that, and/or how to fix it. Any ideas?
  7. Attachments Midrange.jpg Assuming the picture uploads properly, 'ere is my Heresy midrange... sitting ON TOP of the speaker. If it bogarts it, the image is an Altec 811B horn, parked atop the Heresy cabinet. It sounds fairly good in it's current position. I'm gonna hook up the other pretty soon, for kicks. It's not actually a permanent thing, but it certainly makes the Heresy mid horn look kinda small.
  8. Wow, sounds like it's a tank, if it weighs that much. Wonder where I would actually put the thing if I got it.. guess I don't need a bed in here.
  9. Hmm... Well I don't think I need a used wife, but the sub would be nice . Pretty cool looking, at that. How much would you want for the monster? Not to say I have any money, but just out of curiosity.
