  1. I agree Rob. Even here in Canada, where we dont see as much Bose marketing as in the US, people come to me and tell me:

"hey, you know, I saw this TV ad, and they were selling the little Bose system... do you have it?"

"no, but we have a lot of other small systems that cost less and perform better, I'd at least advise you to just take a listen before you buy Bose..."

"yeah... well apparently they are really good, they are small but play like huge speakers, they seem REALLY good!"

"ummm... sir, look, I really don't like to put down other products, that's why I'll put it very conservatively: just go take a listen to any other system before you buy Bose, even if it's not in our store, just to make sure they really sound better."

"yeah, sure, okay... where do they sell them?"

"Future Shop sir. you just go out the mall, there's a big sign, you can't miss them, they also sell fridges and CDs..."

    "thanks Chief!"

I mean, those people see ONE AD, and they right away believe what is said. That image of the little clock radio turning into a major stereo system sticks in their mind I guess... But how can these people believe upfront what is said in a PAID ADVERTISEMENT??? I guess I'm not as ticked off by Bose marketing (hats off to them), but rather by human stupidity, the only other infinite thing besides time and the number of stars in the Universe.

  2. Ears, I'd be willing to sell you a Minolta camera for real cheap if you promise you'll take pics of your rooms...

How about it? What model do you want? Wouldn't you rather go for the mother of the prosumer cameras, the Canon G2? If you want to save, maybe a Casio QV4000?? Or maybe a nice Olympus camera? I'll sell them at cost if i have to, I WANT TO SEE PICTURES!!

  3. John, do I need data to say that Ferrari is considered by people like one of the most desirable car brands on Earth? Of course not, it's just common sense/knowledge.

Nothing irritates me like people who come to a discussion and cry out "data, data!!!" whenever someone makes a claim. This is not a scientific statistical journal, this is a public bulletin board, and I don't think anyone needs to justify himself saying that Bose has an enormous budget for R&D, marketing, etc...

And I'm pretty sure it's common sense to say that a lot of people who bought Bose are happy with their purchase, or else Bose wouldn't make so much money, as people would return the products if unsatisfied, and there would be no repeat buying, which is impossible for such a successful company.

And as far as your claim of Bose discussions only here, well that's completely totally and very obviously FALSE. I've been on several bulletin boards on the Net, and in almost all cases I've seen some kind of Bose discussion, or at least allusions to Bose "suckiness". I don't know where you've been, but I'd really like to see a BB on the net where no "Bose sucks" discussion has ever happened.

So please, if you think some of the points presented on discussions like these are wrong, then post some info to the contrary. It's a BB, not a scientific journal, there is no strict burden of proof on anyone, but if you can, like you did for the claim that Bose was the largest speaker manufacturer in the world, or when you refuted the fact that Bose employed the brightest engineers. That adds much more to the discussion than blindly shouting "data!!"...

  4. I can't wait Monty!

HornEd, I actually can't give blood (we don't get paid for that over here), they won't let me, because I spent too much time in France apparently.

And the way I paid for the stuff I already have is even worse than selling my blood... I served as a lab rat for a pharmaceutical company during one summer, which provided me with the 2K I needed. How's that for sacrifice? They we sticking needle upon needle in me, every half hour, for two days, to take blood samples, not an agreeable feeling...

    cwm5.gif

BTW, yes, this is true, I got the assurance of my pharmacian mother that what they were testing was harmless, they just wanted to know how much was left in my system as time went by. 2 days plus 15 repeat visits, $2,000, not a bad deal!

  5. the RF-7 are NOT inexpensive for my budget, even at cost.

people all around me are calling me crazy to even consider spending that much on speakers, and that includes my workmates (tells you something about the audio salespeople's passion about their domain... depressing.)

I think I might go with the RF-3s and RC-3 right now just so you people stop harassing me Smile.gif and then upgrade to the 7 series when I have more money (after summer?), and use the RF-3s and RC-3 as surrounds... Good idea?

  6. yo, TheEar, stop assuming everybody has your audio budget!

I'm wondering... are the RF-3s much brighter than the RF-7s, especially if used with middle-of-the road receivers like my sony DB?

because I could at least buy those right now, it would keep me waiting... now if only they made them in cherry for the NA market!!

  7. thanks

anyone know what power is required to make these sing? could they be powered, say, by an old prologic receiver, for example?

also, the specs don't look really impressive, but I assume they are underspec'ed, aren't they? I mean, a sub that doesn't go lower than 30Hz efficiently hardly seems like a good deal for home theater use...

to those with practical experience, exactly how low can they go in a typical room?

  8. yes, I would like to know whether you can get a pair of RF-3II in cherry for the North American market.

it's a low-cost option that would bring so many more customers to Klipsch...

I know of a couple customers that went with another brand because they thought the RF-5s were too expensive, and they wanted another finish than crappy black.

seems they are reviewing the RF3II (from the picture) in that review (http://www.tnt-audio.com/casse/klipsch-rf3_e.html) and they say the cherry finish is available. seems to be an italian review though.

  9. newfish, not a lot of people talk about the quintet, because not a lot of people have settled for that here.

the quintets have the trademark Klipsch sound, but IMO aren't a great value, especially if you compare them to Enregy microsystems like Take 5.2 or Encore. But your mileage may vary, and you might like the sound of the Quintets more.

once again, I'll tell you what we tell everybody: go listen to the speakers! compare and figure out what you like best.

  10. no.

I will NEVER settle for anything less (read: smaller) than the mighty RF-7s. Fell in love with them at first sight. Plus, with the markup on these babies, I can get a KILLER deal where I work.

It's just my philosophy, might as well wait a bit more and get exactly what I want instead of compromising. The only thing that is really bothering me is the center channel issue. do I go with phantom, with all the practical disadvantages, or do I wait even longer for an RC-7 (it wqill not stay there forever, HornEd, if you're reading this, I will use it as front center until I buy another pair of RF-7, and then it will go to the back. in a loooong time.)?

You guys are really pressuring me! I gotta advance cash to my girlfriend so that she can go to California this summer, and I need to put my 2K in RRSPs... I'll try to meet with my dad's accountant ASAP. And then I'll buy the speakers regardless of what he says. cwm4.gif
