    I'd just like to point out that since my reconversion to WinXP, I have had the computer crash only about once or twice a MONTH, while it would happen about 3 times a WEEK with Win98.

    And I have no compatibility problems, and don't have to use L337 Linux skeelz whenever I need to install a program. Oh, and I have endless gaming possibilities and laugh when I see what's offered for the Mac.

    Not wanting to sound like a Windows zombie/user, but those are simply cold hard facts.

    Are you talking about the ES-18XL? It seems like that model wasn't on the market for more than like 1-2 years, which is a shame, because apparently it was a killer sub...

    i can't believe that guy is getting rid of those speakers for an all-in-one mini system that was included with his TV... what a bad move!

    good buy TG! Now just go to a store and try to find older model receivers from last year, you can get amazing closeout deals on great receivers that only lack Prologic II!! suggestions: Denon x801 series, for example.

    to reiterate, as it appears I wasn't clear enough in my above post cwm5.gif sorry!

    I do NOT sell paradigm, nor have any kind of inside info on their products (quite unfortunately I must say). Besides, you can very often find the skinny on new products on the Internet before the sales team in any store knows about it!

    Guys, I don't sell Paradigm.

    I will not miss an occasion to talk about the brand's numerous merits, however, because I'm not a salesman when it comes to this board. I am trying not to let that side of my life affect this board. If I think a product is better than another one, I'll say it, regardless of whether my store carries it or not.

    For example, I love Harman/Kardon and Paradigm products and never miss a chance to recommend them for consideration...

    If, however, I can offer a bit of inside information as to new products developments or product comparisons, then all the better! But never to the detriment of my precious neutrality.

    You will lose a bit of sound level if the sub is to fire into an opening, as the walls won't be there to reinforce the sound. It should sound fine, however.

    I have my PW-2200 right behind the couch... Sounds great at about 1/4 volume and set @ 0 on the Denon channel level!!

    Synergy SF-2 and Reference RF 3 II

    I'm thinking this is only an impression.

    The SF2 is a brighter, more agressive (no offense intented) speaker, and since our ears are more sensitive to higher frequencies, we interpret that as being louder somehow.

    I'll do a quick comparison at work, but I'm pretty sure that's it, it's just that the RF-3 is a more controlled, tamer speaker, not that it's not loud.

    Besides, as was stated previously, with minimal input power, the RF-3II's can and will reach levels that are way too high to listen at safely. so if you really think they can't go loud enough, you've probably already damaged your hearing!

    in a word, yes.

    unless your speakers can perform down low as well as a subwoofer, which is highly doubtful, you need to set them to small and use an appropriate xover frequency.

    but the good thing is manufacturers have listened and pretty much all the new models of SACD and DVDA players come with bass management onboard.

    skonopa, my post above was simply stating my opinion and pursuing your point a little more in depth.

    I'm fully aware of your sharing my opinion, I was just trying to clarify the point a little bit.

    hope I haven't come through as responding to your post in a negative way, but I did read quite a few threads on the same topic in the htf forums and I was a bit taken back by the fact that people actually gave some measure of credibility to such a stupid test.

    about the background noise/hissing problem...

    okay, big deal, you pump up the volume, put your ear up to the speaker and hear hissing with nothing playing... SO WHAT?

    can you honestly say that you hear it when the movie/music is playing? of course not. I have a very noisy fan on my PC, and when the Promedias are playing relatively loud, I can't hear it either, so there is no way you are going to make me believe that this problem is in fact a problem.

    putting your ear up to the speaker with no source playing and the volume up is a very artificial listening test. in no way does it represent the real performance of the unit.

    just my 2 cents.

    For my future Rf-3IIs, I will keep my Paradigm PW-2200 that I have set up right in the back of my sofa. The best sonic configuration in MY large concrete basement.

    I wouldn't mind adding a second one, though.

    Look at SVS and HSU as well.

    I watch at least twice as many movies as I listen to music for half-hour periods.

    But I'd still upgrade the audio first.

    1-TVs are going to get better and cheaper in the short run, esp. widescreen ones.

    2-It would give me time to look around, as the Panasonic model isn't the best I've seen up to now (we sell it). You could even look at front projectors...

    3-I just like the feeling of great audio better than great video, as it is a physical sensation that can be felt, unlike video.
