  1. Thanks for the help. Let me give a rundown of my other stuff. I have a Denon 1910 Receiver (just got it). I have (4) CDT-5800-C speakers in my ceiling (2 front, 2 back...came with the house). Link: http://www.klipsch.com/na-en/products/cdt-5800-c-overview/ Pretty sure those are the ones I have. I have a KSW-10 subwoofer that I am borrowing, because my other subwoofer, the amp died. So I will be shopping for a sub here as well. Hope that helps. Let me know what else I can provide. Cheers, TCG
  2. Hello everyone. I have a Klipsch setup at home; my center channel is a RC-10 (discontinued) and I have been thinking for awhile about upgrading my center channel. It just seems that a lot of the sound that comes from the center channel is very quiet and I have to dial up the volume to really hear it at times. Yet, when I do this, then stuff starts to explode, I have to dial it back down. So my question is, would a bigger, better center channel help me out with this? My room is pretty big. It is a combo family room/eating area/kitchen so I have a lot of room. I wasn't sure if that it would help or not, so I wanted to ask here. If a upgrade was needed, what would be a good option to go for? Maybe the RC-52? Thanks TCG
  3. Sorry for the long delay. Been super busy. Verified a few things: -bought new fuses and replaced them in the sub. No dice. -borrowed a sub from my dad, plugged it in and it works (powers on and sound comes out). So sounds like it is definitely something with the amp. I will probabl open it up and see what I can find. Removing the screws is pretty straightforward. Looking inside is where it can get interesting. Question on opening it up: On the back of the sub, there is a 'panel' type, that appears to be roughly 10 x 10. It is closed with star screws. To properly open it up, I remove all those star screws to take off the back panel? Maybe about 10-15 star screws to remove? That sound right? Thanks! TCG
  4. Hi Dennie, Thanks for your help. I took your suggestions and put them into affect. Sorry to report that the sub appears dead. I did everything you said; let it sit for 15 mins; plugged it back into the old receiver. The green indicator light never comes back on. Bummer. I am really quite shocked that it died. I remember actually powering off the sub and the green indicator light was on. I never thought that the next time it tried to turn on, it would be dead. I really cant think of any other thing to verify if it is indeed dead. The fact the indicator light does not come on at all, both new and old receiver, doesnt sound well. Thanks for the help. I really do appreciate it. TCG
  5. Hello everyone. Have a weird thing happening with my RW 8 woofer. I swapped out receivers yesterday. Before I did, woofer was working fine. I get the green light indicator. After I swapped everything out, I plug in the woofer, but I get no green light at all. I checked my connections, the power in the wall and everything is set. So I am wondering, could I have blown a fuse in my RW 8 woofer? If so, possible to replace the fuse? Trying to figure out how to do that. Thanks. TCG
  6. Just a guess here, but im assuming titanium is better than aluminum for the tweeter? If you have a swiveling tractrix horn, what exactly does that do? Does it make the surround sound better? Direct it differently? I appreciate the feedback and info. thx
  7. Well, I did it: I went with the seperate route: outlaw audio 970 preamp/processor outlaw aduio 7075 (7) channel amp I read a review on this setup and it was glowing: Broke down and spent the cash. HT is becoming addicting. I haven't even finished my setup and im trying to figure out how to make things better: Now all I need is my new TV and DVD player and im golden.
  8. LOL! I got a good laugh out of that! I'm still laughing. It was the wet/snack bar that did me in!
  9. Anyone care to share their input on the layout of my HT/Family room? Like I said, I was trying to make sure that I have enough power to push to through the speakers to fill the space. The outlaw seperate setup is probably ideal, but it might be just out of my price range (hurts when you need to buy a builtin media center, 46" TV and a AV setup all at the sametime..!). If the seperates don't work out, I might go with the Outlaw AV receiver. I hear they are very good as well. Just curious about my floorplan though. thx. thecoffeeguy
  10. Not sure if anyone can see the picture I posted. But if you click on the picture, it brings it to a web page with the picture slightly larger. I tried to circle in red where the speakers are located in the ceiling. Also, when you look at the picture, my sub is located in the upper left corner. I was thinking of room acoustics and I think the speakers are setup in a good way to bounce of the walls. The only speaker I have questions about is the back left speaker (back right when looking at the picture), due to the open space to the left of the speaker. With the room dynamics, I am thinking i might need to go with something that has alittle more power due to the size of the room; hence, the seperates. Anyone want to comment or share info on room acoustics/dynamics/size? Thanks! thecoffeeguy
  11. Thanks, I appreciate it. Just curious as I was thinking about something today. If I posted the dimensions of the room (even gave a floorplan out) of my room that will act as my HT and family room, would that maybe help in determing my power needs? What I mean is, maybe it will determine whether I can go with a pretty good receiver or maybe I need to go with seperates, depending on the shape of the room. Here it is: Sorry it is small: I tried to circle in red, where the speakers are in the room. The sub is in the upper left corner. Thanks
  12. I guess my concern more than anything was, could my speakers handle it? Looking at the specs of my speakers, they seem to be able to handle 50watts continous and 200watts max (still learning jargon as far as continous...think I can figure out 'max'). The amp on this is 75watts, so should be more than enough. I also found this link: http://www.avrev.com/equip/outlaw_970_7075/index.html Sounds incredibly enticing. Considerably more than the $500 A/V I was considering. Since im new, is there any comparrison when talking about a A/V receiver compared to seperates? As far as quality, sound, performance etc. Do seperates just give that much more?
  13. I got a kick out of that. I'm assuming this would be none of the above?
  14. After reading a ton about receivers, amps, preamps/processors, I am seriously considering the following setup: Outlaw Model 970 Preamp/Processor Outlaw Model 7075 7 Channel amp To go with: (4) R 2650-C 6.5" Ceiling mounted speakers (1) RC-10 Center channel (1)RC-8 Sub Gives me the option to upgrade speakers down the road if I choose. If this is too much,I was going to go with a HK AVR receiver. Thanks.
  15. what things should I pay attention to when shopping for a new one? Items to make the picture better; sound better etc.
