  1. Thanks for the help. Let me give a rundown of my other stuff. I have a Denon 1910 Receiver (just got it). I have (4) CDT-5800-C speakers in my ceiling (2 front, 2 back...came with the house). Link: http://www.klipsch.com/na-en/products/cdt-5800-c-overview/ Pretty sure those are the ones I have. I have a KSW-10 subwoofer that I am borrowing, because my other subwoofer, the amp died. So I will be shopping for a sub here as well. Hope that helps. Let me know what else I can provide. Cheers, TCG
  2. Hello everyone. I have a Klipsch setup at home; my center channel is a RC-10 (discontinued) and I have been thinking for awhile about upgrading my center channel. It just seems that a lot of the sound that comes from the center channel is very quiet and I have to dial up the volume to really hear it at times. Yet, when I do this, then stuff starts to explode, I have to dial it back down. So my question is, would a bigger, better center channel help me out with this? My room is pretty big. It is a combo family room/eating area/kitchen so I have a lot of room. I wasn't sure if that it would help or not, so I wanted to ask here. If a upgrade was needed, what would be a good option to go for? Maybe the RC-52? Thanks TCG
  3. Sorry for the long delay. Been super busy. Verified a few things: -bought new fuses and replaced them in the sub. No dice. -borrowed a sub from my dad, plugged it in and it works (powers on and sound comes out). So sounds like it is definitely something with the amp. I will probabl open it up and see what I can find. Removing the screws is pretty straightforward. Looking inside is where it can get interesting. Question on opening it up: On the back of the sub, there is a 'panel' type, that appears to be roughly 10 x 10. It is closed with star screws. To properly open it up, I remove all those star screws to take off the back panel? Maybe about 10-15 star screws to remove? That sound right? Thanks! TCG
  4. Hi Dennie, Thanks for your help. I took your suggestions and put them into affect. Sorry to report that the sub appears dead. I did everything you said; let it sit for 15 mins; plugged it back into the old receiver. The green indicator light never comes back on. Bummer. I am really quite shocked that it died. I remember actually powering off the sub and the green indicator light was on. I never thought that the next time it tried to turn on, it would be dead. I really cant think of any other thing to verify if it is indeed dead. The fact the indicator light does not come on at all, both new and old receiver, doesnt sound well. Thanks for the help. I really do appreciate it. TCG
  5. Hello everyone. Have a weird thing happening with my RW 8 woofer. I swapped out receivers yesterday. Before I did, woofer was working fine. I get the green light indicator. After I swapped everything out, I plug in the woofer, but I get no green light at all. I checked my connections, the power in the wall and everything is set. So I am wondering, could I have blown a fuse in my RW 8 woofer? If so, possible to replace the fuse? Trying to figure out how to do that. Thanks. TCG
  6. Just a guess here, but im assuming titanium is better than aluminum for the tweeter? If you have a swiveling tractrix horn, what exactly does that do? Does it make the surround sound better? Direct it differently? I appreciate the feedback and info. thx
  7. Well, I did it: I went with the seperate route: outlaw audio 970 preamp/processor outlaw aduio 7075 (7) channel amp I read a review on this setup and it was glowing: Broke down and spent the cash. HT is becoming addicting. I haven't even finished my setup and im trying to figure out how to make things better: Now all I need is my new TV and DVD player and im golden.
  8. LOL! I got a good laugh out of that! I'm still laughing. It was the wet/snack bar that did me in!
  9. Anyone care to share their input on the layout of my HT/Family room? Like I said, I was trying to make sure that I have enough power to push to through the speakers to fill the space. The outlaw seperate setup is probably ideal, but it might be just out of my price range (hurts when you need to buy a builtin media center, 46" TV and a AV setup all at the sametime..!). If the seperates don't work out, I might go with the Outlaw AV receiver. I hear they are very good as well. Just curious about my floorplan though. thx. thecoffeeguy
  10. Not sure if anyone can see the picture I posted. But if you click on the picture, it brings it to a web page with the picture slightly larger. I tried to circle in red where the speakers are located in the ceiling. Also, when you look at the picture, my sub is located in the upper left corner. I was thinking of room acoustics and I think the speakers are setup in a good way to bounce of the walls. The only speaker I have questions about is the back left speaker (back right when looking at the picture), due to the open space to the left of the speaker. With the room dynamics, I am thinking i might need to go with something that has alittle more power due to the size of the room; hence, the seperates. Anyone want to comment or share info on room acoustics/dynamics/size? Thanks! thecoffeeguy
  11. Thanks, I appreciate it. Just curious as I was thinking about something today. If I posted the dimensions of the room (even gave a floorplan out) of my room that will act as my HT and family room, would that maybe help in determing my power needs? What I mean is, maybe it will determine whether I can go with a pretty good receiver or maybe I need to go with seperates, depending on the shape of the room. Here it is: Sorry it is small: I tried to circle in red, where the speakers are in the room. The sub is in the upper left corner. Thanks
  12. I guess my concern more than anything was, could my speakers handle it? Looking at the specs of my speakers, they seem to be able to handle 50watts continous and 200watts max (still learning jargon as far as continous...think I can figure out 'max'). The amp on this is 75watts, so should be more than enough. I also found this link: http://www.avrev.com/equip/outlaw_970_7075/index.html Sounds incredibly enticing. Considerably more than the $500 A/V I was considering. Since im new, is there any comparrison when talking about a A/V receiver compared to seperates? As far as quality, sound, performance etc. Do seperates just give that much more?
  13. I got a kick out of that. I'm assuming this would be none of the above?
  14. After reading a ton about receivers, amps, preamps/processors, I am seriously considering the following setup: Outlaw Model 970 Preamp/Processor Outlaw Model 7075 7 Channel amp To go with: (4) R 2650-C 6.5" Ceiling mounted speakers (1) RC-10 Center channel (1)RC-8 Sub Gives me the option to upgrade speakers down the road if I choose. If this is too much,I was going to go with a HK AVR receiver. Thanks.
  15. what things should I pay attention to when shopping for a new one? Items to make the picture better; sound better etc.
  16. Hello everyone! I'm in the market for a new DVD player because my current one is out of date and to fully take advantage of my HT, I need to get a better DVD Player. Here is some info: (4) RC-2650 6.5" ceiling mounted klipsch speakers (1)RC-10 center channel (1)RC-8 sub All reference series, powered by HK240. Currently shopping for a 42"-46" DLP tv which will have builtin HDTV. (Need to do my research on TV next.) Looking for a good quality TV. Just need to get a new DVD Player to take advantage of the new stuff that my current one doesnt. Just want a single loader, no multi. Don't need recording. Don't need a VCR/DVD combo. Want progressive scanning. What specifics should I look for? Looking for good video picture and very good sound. Here are a few i've looked at: -Pioneer DV-588A Looking also at Denon, Sony, Samsung.... any other recommendations? I appreciate it.
  17. Just looked at HK's sight for the 240 and it shows on the back of the unit, that it has "Preamp Outputs", so I am assuming I could plug one in later? I think I might go this route. I've heard nothing but stellar reviews on HK units and people in this forum have pretty much backed it up. I don't need a multizone receiver right now, that is another reason. Currently will be running 5.1, and possibly 7.1 in the future. The only thing I might upgrade in the near future is my center channel. Trying to save cash if I can, because I need a new DVD player. Lastly, reviews on sound for the HK are all glowing, so that's a plus. I am trying to find a place locally where I can listen to this. Circuit City has them, but not sure if I can listen to them there.
  18. Thanks Fish. I appreciate it. Just a quick follow up: I see the HK 240 has 50watts per channel. Would the suffice to push my reference series speakers? Or should I upgrade one notch to the 340? Lets say I did get the 240...and in the future, wanted a bit more power. Can you purchase an amp and plug it into the HK AVR? Thanks!
  19. Just out of curiosity, where can you purchase Arcam AVR's? Any particular places online that have good prices? Just read a couple of reviews about these receivers and they are glowing. Since I also run the reference series, might be a option. thx T.c.G.
  20. Is the 630 a older unit? I can't find it on their website? All I see is: 140 240 340 435 635 I'm looking at the: 240, 340, 435. I think the 635 is a little out of my price range. I'm just incredibly picky and want to make sure which ever receiver I buy, it will drive my speakers with nice, crisp, clean power and fill my HT with incredibly quality sound.
  21. I would like to if I can. That would be ideal. I figure any of the above I listed should work well with the Klipsch speakersI have? Like I said, I really am honing in on making sure I get awesome sound when watching movies. That is #1 priority, with music not far behind. I appreciate the feedback.
  22. Thanks guys for the input. I've narrowed it down to these: -Pioneer VSX-1015TX -Harman Kardon AVR240 -Harman Kardon AVR 335 -Harman Kardon AVR 340 (which I think is a upgrade from the 335? Correct me if im wrong) I know the wattage on the HK's are rated lower, but from what i've read, its a lot of pure, clean power and it should not be judged by the watts. Everything i've read on the HK's is gleaming with sound quality. I don't think I can go wrong with either one. I do wish there was a way for me to try them all out. I guess my biggest question with the receivers above is, would they give good power to my speakers and drive them accordingly? Which in turn would supply me with rich, clean, crisp sound? Would I see much difference in any of the above with my speakers? Or would they all sound pretty similar? Anyone have experience with HK's? thecoffeeguy
  23. After a lot of time surfing the net, reading reviews, scanning forums, I have narrowed down my A/V receiver to the following: -Pioneer VSX-1015TX -Harman Kardon (few models) - AVR240, AVR435, AVR635, AVR335/340 -Panasonic XR55/70 (digital amplifier) I don't think I can go wrong with any of the above. However, the perfectionist in me is running at full throttle right now. All have received good reviews, but im hoping to get some feedback on the models listed above, in combination with which one(s) would work best with my speakers and fit what im looking for. -Clear sound. Crisp. Very nice. No distortion. Good bass, but not BOOMING to where it overhwelms. My speakers: (4)Klipsch RC2650C 6.5" (1)Klipsch RC-8 Subwoofer (1)Klipsch RC-10 Center Channel Also, someone said that with the Pioneer, if you get a bigger TV, there might be a little 'lipsync' action, where it will be delayed. My TV will be 50" at the biggest. I put the panasonic on there because, even though priced considerably lower, it is getting rave reviews. Harman Kardon seem to get very high marks for sound quality. Pioneer is a receiver that gets the nod as well. Anyone have any feedback on the following? I appreciate it. T.C.G.
  24. Appreciate all the help guys. I'm trying to narrow down my search here and think i've narrowed it down to three brands: Denon - 2106 Yamaha - RX-V757 Harmon Kardon - still looking All seem to be good, but me being picky, im trying to find one that will give me the ultimate surround sound experience with high quality and awesome experiences. Question on the Harman Kardon: The one I looked at says it has 50watts per channel. A few readers/reviewers have said that it is more than enough because it is clean power and HK measures their watts differently. A few went on to say this particular receiver HK-AV240, blew away some of the 100watt receivers. Anyone care to comment? HK a good brand? Thanks
