Hi all, I have a guy in my local market selling a pair of KSB 3.1s. He wants $150 for them, which I initially balked at. He's had them listed as "for sale" for some time now so I doubt he's getting much interest. I was going to try to lowball at first and haggle him down from $150 a little, but I'm wondering how much the KSBs are worth. I don't want to use them for my main stereo, they would be for the kitchen or sun porch or something. Anyone have any experience? Thanks!

Oh man, you were going to ship them to Illinois? I guess they must be a good deal. I'm really excited. Until now the best stereo I've had was a pair of Wharfedale tower speakers, which were good but really lacked the depth and presence of the Fortes, and they moved to Washington DC with my roommate. On the flip side, he has an HK 430 lying around which I hope he will sell me for cheap. I set them up in my living room for an hour or so, which until now has only had a Panasonic home-theater-in-a-box. My roommate came in and asked me where I got the "big ugly speakers." Some things just aren't for everybody.

I am happy to say that I am the proud new owner of those very same Fortes and they are currently sitting in the living room after the trek back from Wellesley to Worcester, their new home. So, this is my Forte story: I read the CL electronics classifieds obsessively. I have been reading them for a year or so in order to score awesome deals on speakers. I'm a college student so I sometimes am late on postings because of class or work, and I've been passed over so far for a pair of KG4.5 for $75 and a pair of Cornwall IIs for $50 (I still doubt the validity of this post, but someone might have gotten lucky). Well, yesterday was my lucky day. I caught this one after about 3 minutes and went to get them today. They look beautiful, but there is indeed some damage. The riser base on one has completely fallen off and one binding post is completely snapped off... Anyway, I am so excited about them, I can't wait to hook them up. I'll post a thread about them soon. EDIT: I'm referring to the ones from Craigslist that Corvette posted a little ways up from here. For the record, they're totally worth $100.
