  1. Diesel cars?

Big powerful trucks I understand, but cars??? C'mon.... that's soooo 80's. The only people who will be buying diesel cars in the 2000's are those not smart enough to learn from the 80's diesel gaffe. Gas prices are quite cheap when you consider we have not expanded oil refining capabilities since the early 70's. When you couple that with our usage and population growing geometrically since that time.... what do you expect? Cheaper gas??

    LOL .............

If it were up to the liberals, they'd tack on more 'penal' usage taxes on gasoline so we could be more like europe and pay twice our current rate. We're actually quite fortunate.

PS... Do you think GM will bring back the diesel Chevette?

  2. If you want a good laugh, check out the audio systems here...

    http://backyardtheater.com/

Watch for a Colter / Cannon / Phillips entry soon.

    Aaaaaah yes....

A backyard drive-in would be fun, but it would never work for me. Bug bites aside...... unless I lived waaaaaaay out in the country, my neighbors would never tolerate me because I could never settle for "drive-in" sound. For me..... full range ref-level sound is now a very big part of the movie experience, and I could never accomplish outdoors what I can indoors without being run out of the neighborhood......LOL

I have plenty of fond memories from my Drive-In youth experiences, but then again .... sound quality meant nothing in those days. Back then, the backseat was all that mattered!! Back then, the small metal toaster hanging in the window was just fine.

Heh.... those days are long since gone[;)]

  3. The Synergy line isnt a bad speaker by any means, but the Reference speaker is clearly a better built speaker and worth the effort to locate. In fact, the reference speaker doesn't cost significantly more than it's cheaper Synergy counterpart. The Synergy line is a low cost 'High Markup' item sold by the Big box chains.

The 6090 is a good HT receiver, but I prefer the 'non-Best Buy' Yamaha models. (The Yamaha RX-V line) They are very similar except for some features, so either is a good choice. You're definitely looking along the right path, although I would personally steer clear of the Best Buy version of klipsch. You'll probably be more than satisfied with the Synergy speakers, but you should take that extra step and "step up" to the Reference speaker.

  4. I will be purchasing a RC-52 center and RB-51's for fronts (for a 7.1 setup) due to size constraints. What would you recommend for the sides and backs? I was thinking RS-42's for the sides, and was wondering if I could get away with RS-10's for the rears for aesthetic reasons. Is it better to use surrounds or bookshelves for the sides / rears? For the sub I was thinking either the RW-10d or RW-12d. Thanks in advance.

IMO..room layout and space restrictions have a lot to do with the decision. Why not matching RB-51's for surrounds? As for backs?....I'm sure the RS-10s would be fine. You can easily mount RS-10's right on the wall. As for a sub... I'd lean towards SVS.

    my 2 cents......

PS... Keep in mind that a pair of RB51's plus stands will cost as much or more than RF-52 towers. (and the footprint will be the same) You might consider towers because they wont take any more floorspace & they'll be full-range speakers for equal or less $$$$$.

  5. I have a roughly 15x20' room in the basement.

    Have the following:

    spacer.gif

Yamaha 6.1-Ch. 810-Watt Digital Home Theater Network Receiver

    Pioneer Elite DVD player

    110" screen and projector

Considering the F-2s , the c-2's or the c-1's and the 12 inch sub. Possibly the s-1's or the s-2's for surround.

Also considering the full RF-62 set with RF-62 front, RS-52 surrounds, RC-62 center, RW10d sub.

    Recs?

Perform a dealer search and find a local who sells the Reference line. The Synergy is a good speaker, but the reference line is a cut above. The real cost of the RF line is finding a local dealer, because both sell for relatively similar prices. If you can find somebody locally who sells the RF line....go that route.

    My 2 cents..

    Good luck...

  6. Great! It's too bad I'll have to wait for them to be in stock. [:'(]

Another problem. I have a pretty weak audio system for the TV right now. I know it has a aubwoofer output...but that would be pointless to put $2500 of subwoofers on a cheap $100 shelf system...

    Oh my...... A $2500 sub for a $100 system?

And you asked with a straight face[*-)]

  7. Hey I don't want it to sound dull and boring while I'm watching TV (or a movie) while eating!!

It's ~20x12x11. I figure I could spend maybe 2.5k? I want to try and fit it in the cabinet under the TV, if possible. Much thanks!

You want to spend 2.5k on a "Kitchen" sub, and jam it into the cupboards?

    Ohhh my....

The rattles alone will ruin any added sound improvements. (not to mention broken china)

    my 2 cents....

  8. my room is about 6.5meters long , 4.8meters wide and 3.1meters high!so my dear friends,i don't konw which is the better choice,klipsch RF63 systems (rf 63,rc64,rs 62)or RF62!

The two speakers are nearly an apples to oranges comparison. The RF-63 is obviously the better speaker, but they also cost nearly 3X the RF-62. So my question is............... how much are you willing to spend?

  9. I am looking to stay under $2K for the speakers. My wife says she is open to either in-wall/ceiling or wall mounted/free standing speakers. I currently have a polk system that will go into the kids media room, so I am finally ready to get a serious system for the family Living Room.

I would be willing to spend in the $1,500 range for the receiver, I don't know if that is realistic or not.

    Hi Bee,

I think you should budget less for the receiver given your total budget. Personally..... I wouldnt spend more than $500-$1,000(closer to 500) on a receiver if you only have $2k allocated towards speakers. Move some of that receiver money over, and add to your speaker budget.

With your budget, I would recommend similarly as above..... I'd buy front, center, and surrounds in the RF-62 range of speakers. Keep in mind, if you're buying 5 speakers from a klipsch dealer, you'll be able to knock 10-20% off suggested retail price.

I'd also spend $600-800for a sub(I recommend SVS), and maybe only $500+ for a receiver. I'd wire for 7.1, and add the extra speakers as new budget money is allowed.

    Happy shopping[Y]

  10. Silly me....

I didnt even realize KLF are Klipsch speakers, so I deleted my previous comment. I mistook the initials and thought he was talking about something else. I thought he was referring to a certain (non-klipsch) budget brand sold at BB.

    my apologies

  11. My goals are to have a dynamic punch when watching movies, like you are really there. Since i finished my HT, i have only watched movies. I rarely listen to music. I just think my room is just too big for my sub. I need more punch, if that makes sense. Not that it sounds boomy or anything, but i would like more tight bass. I am probably asking the impossible for the money i have right now, but what are your suggestions in the $600.00 to 700.00 price range? Your imput is much appreciated CAS...

Why arent you considering a larger SVS? Why not upgrade to a larger NSD or Plus12? For each dollar spent, it's pretty difficult to beat SVS if movies are you thing. For your purposes, I think going from a SVS10 to a Klipsch10 would be a move in the wrong direction.

    Good luck, and happy shopping!!

  12. Yammies are toy-like and really not so practical in setting up your system. I would suggest looking further than Walmart & or Best Buy for better products. Also the KLF speakers and of course some of the lower grade Denon DVD players are laughable. These have always been considered as starter speakers for dorm rooms. Look outside the box man! Plenty of good infor here!

    Cheers and good luck!

Don't take this personal, but that was the most rude, ignorant, and factually incorrect response I've seen on this forum in a long time. Not only was your response inflammatory and 'put-downish' , but it was factually incorrect.

And then you have the nerve to say "cheers and good luck" after your factually incorrect put downs?

    1. Why the mention of and knock against KLF since the poster doesn't own or ask about them?

    2. You will not find the RX-V1700 selling at BB, CC, walmart or at other budget stores as you have duley implied.

  13. With your $900 budget, you cant go wrong with the RX-V1700. You'll be hard pressed to find a receiver at that price point that is more than 'marginally' all-around a better choice without going well over your budget.

    Enjoy.....!!

  14. That's a nice first step towards the modern age.

Once you finally advance to wide-screen HD....... you'll never look back.

You owe it to yourself. Even 480p movies will look 100 times better in widescreen.

As NIKE says............. "JUST DO IT".

  15. I thought the game looked great on my 65". I thought CBS could have wiped the lenses from certain angles more often, but other than that.... it looked fantastic. I think they might have chosen to keep a couple of the lenses foggy and water spotted for effect purposes....... I mean c'mon.... These guys know, by now, how to protect the glass better from getting wet if they wanted too.
