  1. Never had that problem, sound first aesthetic's second, according to the wife. I have no problem with it, not a big fan of long skinny looking speakers,  anyway it actually looks good.

I agree. I have a custom diy 15" ported sub setup that is the size of a coffee table and it looks good sitting right where the center would be. It looks perfect with my la scalas.

  2.

A true center should be the C in an LCR setup, with 3 matching speakers. A horizontal center is a set of compromises made for the home market where we must fit items into our home.

While I, too, have a horizontal center, the Heritage models do have a true center.

I agree with you completely and I can't speak for everbody but I refuse to run another heritage speaker for use as a center. For aesthic reasons.

  3. When I was looking for a center channel between forte ll's the next closest thing was an Academy or I think it was c-7 ? Both was only a few inches short of a forte laying down, not a BIG difference. I would guess to be a "true center" if would have to be big to match the sound, like the size of RF centers to Rf towers, there not small.

If the center is any less that the mains you will really hear it since so much info is from the center, it has to keep up.

The only real difference with laying them down is which way the horns are pointing, I have been doing it for years you would be surprised how little difference it really makes, people who say differently must be able to hear much better then me ?

I'm sure the academy's do well with the fortes but I was referring to the klipschorn, la scala, belle, and cornwalls.

  4. No biggee!

So the widest I was able to place them apart are 10' toe'd in, left tower in a corner and the right tower sits right where the living room opens into the kitchen and yes the sound stage has expanded tremendously. You are right. These Cornwalls need to be at least 12 feet apart. The imaging is near perfect without Audyssey. The sound is big and a lot smoother than it was before although still bright and in your face. I believe with more tweaking it should clean and even out more. Running Audyssey will probably clean it all up.

  5. saying that heritage prefers tubes is a very generalized statement. There's a lot more to it than that. Room configuration, source, type of music, etc. all plays into it. It's not the amp, it's the positioning of the speakers. 1 foot off the wall and 12 feet apart would be much, much better.

Yes I totally agree. There's too many factors involved and saying heritage prefering tubes is a generalized statement, but I got that from all the reading I've done the last few years in regards to the heritage line. I don't have first hand experience so I shouldn't have used that statement.

  6. Why not?

I've never owned that amp and didn't know they were bad.

It's not that they're bad but from what I gather, heritage prefers tubes. However, I don't believe its the amp because if it was then the La Scalas would sound just as bad. If anything it's a reflection of the speaker itself that is giving me that sound and not so much the amp.

  7. Bright and harsh?  Thin?  Could you please let us know the drivers in your CW's, the crossover and what amp/preamp/source you are using?

The Corns are stock, unmodified. La Scalas are also stock and unmodified.
    I'm running a Marantz sr6011, Emotiva XPA-5 (2nd gen) amp.

When I have more time I'm going to run Audyssey on the Corns, move them back further and wider apart to see if that improves it.

  8. Here is what I notice so far. Cornwalls: bright, harsh, in your face, thinner than la Scalas, fuller in the bass region, more bass.
La Scalas: warm, smooth, airy, huge and wide sound stage, more midbass/chest punch type bass.

  9. Just picked up a pair of Cornwalls I and wow, I can't believe that Cornwalls are big. They're bigger than the La Scalas I have in my living room and the plan was to throw these into my bedroom to replace the Fortes I currently have in there.

One thing though, I'd like to put to rest the La Scala vs Cornwall dilemna for good. At least from my own perspective. I've read too many good things about the Cornwalls and couldn't pass up on these even though I know I shouldn't have.
