  1. I had my Heresy woofers reconed by a reputable service recently. This could be my imagination but they sound like they have a slighly stronger bass note to them. I was insisted that the reconing be as close as possible to the original materials ie. no foam surrounds. Can the process of reconing change the speaker sound noticably, or am I having a sonic"moment". Also as part of the process I used body putty to fill the wood dings and refinished the cabinets using a high grade of formica in piano gloss black. As strange as that may sound, the results are that of a classic piano gloss finish that doesn't water (ring) stain and is cleanable with windex! The only problem is that the corners are so acute that the kids need to be careful not to fall against them. The speakers could double as cheese slicers. Hey, there's an idea......
  2. I have an outdoor unheaed large workshop/garage that I am in the process of setting up. I want to put a pair of Klipsch speakers in. he question is given the variaions in temperature and humidity levels (southern virginia) can one of the indoor synergy models handle it or should I spring for one of klipsch outdoor models. Does any one have a suggestion as to an older klipsch model that would work. I currently own Heresy's as my stereo setup, RB-5's in the bedroom and Reference 3 series in a 5.1, $100.00 give or take would be a good number for something in the used market. Thanks in advance
  3. I have a pair of Heresy speakers, RB-5's and RF-3's. I recently purchased the Outlaw 2150 Stereo receiver @ 100watt/ch. Very nice open sound stage with the Heresy's. The RB-5's almost hopped across the room. Highly recommended.
  4. I have my Heresy's as my main stereo wih a new Outlaw 2 channel receiver and the 5.1 using the Reference 3 series. I have a large outdoor, unheated garage/workshop. This is to be the holy Dad zone. The place I can go wihout a family member (wife) saying, "Could you turn that down!" The question is what type of speaker can handle the hot/cold/dry/humid extremes of the southern Virginia climate. Should I look for one of the outdoor speakers from Klipsch, or will a conventional indoor speaker be able to handle it. Would the newer poly or metal covered woofers help? I could do indoor speakers for less but I don't want to be pennywise and pound foolish and get something that won't last. Something in a used Synergy line 3 series. Or maybe an older model in that price range. I'll drive this with a nice old vintage receiver. And of course, loud is good. Thanks
  5. Years ago I owned a Hafler dh 220 and a hafler 101 preamp. I had it pushing the Heresy's and it did a fine job. I have a couple of RB 5's for the bed room and after missing a nice MAC 1900 auction on the Bay I am wondering if anyone can give me feedback on a Hafler Iris system, or perhaps a Hafler 945 and a DH 220. If I go back into the world of newer musical stereo receivers I would imagine NAD would be recommended. Any recommendations in the used $300-400 range for receivers? Thanks for the great info on my previous post the MA 5100 and the Heresy's are enjoying life in the family room. Thanks
  6. Thanks, this is my throw back stereo. I even resurrected my old Phillips 212 turntable with a new belt and cartridge and dug out that old vinyl I've been stashing away for years!
  7. I purchased my father in law's well kept McIntosh MA 5100 integrated amp. I use it to push my old Heresy speakers in my stereo set up. I was looking at the new Prima Luna tube amps the other day I was wondering if there would be much of a gain in sound quality or does the older SS McIntosh come pretty close to a tube amp sound? The old MA 5100 needs a tune up and I am trying to get a feel for whether there would be a significant gain by going with the Prima Luna. I have never heard a tube amp before so I am knee deep in ignorance here. Thanks
  8. I have a rc3, rs3, and rb3 as the basis of a 7.1 surround. I am shopping for rf3's or rf5's as the main front speakers. How important is it to match the speakers? Should I stick with an rf3 for any practical reason? Is there really a timbre "thing" here to consider? Are the rf3's a fair stand alone speaker for stereo only music? I like the sound of the rb3's with the exception of a shallow lower end, I assume the rf3's make up for this. What would a fair used price for rf3's range? Many thanks.
  9. [sn][8] I currently own heresy speakers, my primary music source since I purchased them in 1980. I have them in my family room now with my old Mac 5100. I am going to get either Cornwalls or La Scalas for the basement, a large (15X30) open carpeted area. I am thinking that Cornwalls will sound like the Heresy speakers with a fuller, deeper bass. Correct? But what about the LaScala's, less bass but more accurate? Do the LaScala have a smaller cone style woofer using the extra air column of the folded cabinet in the La Scala, or is the folded horn woofer really a horn configuation like the mid and tweeter. I have two long wall corners to put them in (I Know what you're thinking) but can"t afford the Klipschorn. I listen to all kinds of music, jazz-blue grass-classical, I would just as soon not require a sub for my two channel sound. Am I on the right track in terms of these spaker's differences?
