  1. The records in the pictures are the rock/pop, jazz, and soundtrack recordings. Probably about 400-500 or so, but I am not sure. 60's to current. There is another bookshelf in my office that is a bit wider and has my larger classical collection. I would give up all my gear ten times before I would give up my records []
  2. I haven't really found positioning to be a problem....they just need to be a foot or 2 from the wall rather than out in the middle of the room. I also like them better facing straight forward rather than toed in.
  3. Anyone who travels more than 500 miles gets the sneakers thrown in for free. Size 14. I find that when they are in the room, the soundstage becomes more defined and the bass response is improved by at leat an octave.
  4. I do not have the original boxes, sadly. I am the third owner. First owner was a doctor in Michigan. Second owner bought them in Michigan and moved to Nashville. I drove to Tennessee tp get them when I was living in Alabama and brought them to Texas when I moved. They are in very good condition. There are a couple of small vacuum cleaner dings on the risers, which are hard to see and one spot of missing veneer on the back side of the riser on one speaker, so this is invisible unless you like to run your speakers facing the wall. If you are interested in a long distance trip, I will take more detailed pictures and send them to you. I would also be willing to entertain the idea of shipping if someone was willing to make arrangements for freight and pallet packaging. I know I am a limited poster here, but I am a more frequent contributer at AK (jbpollock). If you have a friend from here that you would like to check them out for you, please be my guest. The speaker in the pictures is the Electro Voice Aristocrat that I mentioned I needed a midrange driver and horns for. It currently has a full range SP12 and a T25 tweeter. I was able to fit both spekers in the trunk of my small car (Ford Contour), so a hatchback should be perfect. These are quite a bit narrower than Cornwalls.
  5. One more quick question. If I were to buy an 8 ohm midrange and use an autoformer....could I hook it up such that the signal goes crossover > L-pad > Autoformer > Driver or is there a better implementation?
  6. Excellent advice, thank you again. This is going to be a fun project, I think. I have already ordered the parts to build a new crossover for the tweeter.
  7. Thanks for the input, as I have just started looking. There is a pair on there right now, but they are 8 ohm and have the metal horn ( I have read that the fiberglass sounds better).
  8. I am selling my Forte II's to free up some money to buy midranges for my new Aristocrats (and space). These speakers have all stock components and all drivers are in good condition. They have the oiled oak finish and were manufactured in 1994 (consecutive serial numbers). I will consider partial trade for EV T25A drivers (or other quality 16 ohm mid for use with X8/x36 crossover) and 8HD horns. Asking 500 dollars obo...local pickup.
  9. I recently got a pair of EV aristocrats with 16 ohm T-35 and SP12. I know that the standard midrange to go with this setup is a T25A, but they don't seem to be terribly common. Any reccomendations for other 16 ohm drivers that would work well in this system (with the X8 crossover), or should I be patient and wait to find the T25A's? Thanks for any input.
  10. It is possible that your speakers are out of phase and cancelling the Bass sound. Check first to make sure that you have the +/- leads from your amplifier connected to the proper jacks on your speakers. Also check the connections from the croosover to the woofer and make sure one of the wires isn't switched.
  11. Thanks for the input, Dave. I have been doing a little research tonight and saw a post over at AK where Ed White had built new crossovers, which seem fairly simple (2 Caps and 2 inductors). I will probably do this as well before I pass judgement on them.
  12. I am supposed to go pick up a pair of EV Aristocrat speakers today. I know that they have an SP12 (don't know if it is SP12 or SP12b yet) and a tweeter. I currently am using Forte II's driven by a Fisher KX-100. I want to compare the 2 pairs of speakers but the EV's are much older and probably need recapping. So, any opinions on what to expect Forte II's vs. Aristocrats? Edit; Just got home with them. They have the SP12 (not SP12B), T35 tweeter and X36 crossover. Can't hook them up until later because they have guitar style plugs instead of standard hifi. The man who sold them is the original owner and said they have been in continuous use for the last 45 years, so maybe the caps are ok...
  13. I assume that these are the same speakers that are offered on Craigslist. Ended item. http://cgi.ebay.com/klipsch-chorus_W0QQitemZ9723822286QQcategoryZ61378QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemhttp://cgi.ebay.com/klipsch-chorus_W0QQitemZ9723822286QQcategoryZ61378QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem'>
  14. Thank you again for all of the welcome messages. This seems like a great place. I am really enjoying these speakers as well as the forum. The speakers sound MUCH better now than they did even the first day I got them. They had been in storage for quite a while from what I could tell from the seller so I guess the old caps needed some time to wake up.
  15. Chris, I grew up in Roswell and my parents currently live in Alpharetta. Come by and check 'em out sometime if you want.
  16. I am living in Tuscaloosa, AL...trying to finish graduate school.
  17. Thank you for the welcome. It is a Fisher KX-100 that was originally built by my father. It has been out of service for as long as I can remember so I can't say I have ever heard it.
  18. I have been searching these forums over the last couple of weeks and wanted to introduce myself because I have found them to be a valuable resource. This weekend I drove up to Nasville to buy a pair of Forte II's that were on Craigslist. I started searching for a pair of speakers about 2 weeks ago to go with a Fisher tube amp that I have sent out to be refurbished. Well, as serendipity would have it, I found this pair on Craigslist a week later. While the Fisher is being restored I am using the Forte II's with a SS Yamaha CR-2040 and they sound pretty darn good. I am looking forward to hearing them with tubes though. The Forte's are oiled oak and manufactured in 1993 (see I never would have known how to interpret the serial numbers without this forum) Anyway, Hi !
