  1. Thought I could upload more photos, but I guess its a max of 2mb per thread rather than individual posting.
  2. Here are a few pictures. My location is near the SW corner of loop 610, just south of Bellaire.
  3. Hi guys, and thanks to Weber for pointing me towards this post. I see I haven't been on this forum since 2011-sorry for my absence! I am the owner of the speakers in question. I am located near the SW corner of the 610 loop, just south of Bellaire. I am a long time Klipsch fan and am only letting go of these speakers because I no longer have room for 2 stereo systems and I hate the thought of these living in my closet unused. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I can try to pull them out for pictures if there is anyone with serious interest. These are living room ready with only minor imperfections. Thanks!
  4. Good to hear that the horizontal orientation sounded fine it your setup. Thanks for the input! The speaker itself is very solidly constructed, including the legs. I will admit to having taken a seat on it myself, resting from moving it. No ill effects on the speaker, and I weigh a bit more than the TV.
  5. Thanks for the information. It will be interesting to see how it sounds, when I am able to get to it.
  6. I picked up this custom cabinet this week that contains Cornwall guts. Interestingly, the tweeter is mounted horizontally, but the mid horn is vertical. Didn't take a picture of the inside before storing it away in the closet, but I thought you guys would be interested in seeing it. I have never seen a non-factory built cornwall before. I am hoping to use it as a TV stand/center channel between my 2 1975 Cornwalls whenever I have time for some serious furniture rearrangement. It came with a second cabinet, obviously built later and cheaper, but it only contained a single University 312 driver. One question, how will the vertical mid horn affect my usage as a center channel?
  7. The Pioneer is an integrated amplifier, which is a preamplifier and power amplifier in one unit. The Phase Linear is just a power amplifier. By attaching the "pre-out" on the Pioneer to the Phase Linear, you will be using the Pioneer as a pre-amplifier only. The pre-out on the Pioneer would be connected to the power-in via a pair of jumpers if you wanted to use it as a stand alone unit, without the Phase linear.
  8. The most obvious difference in the the bass department. The Forete II may have tighter, arguably more accurate bass, but the Cornwall has a whole heck of a lot of bass. As far as the mids and uppers, they are certainly both Klipsch products and sound similar. I think that the Forte has a more prominent midrange, which is great for vocals. The Cornwall midrange is more attenuated and seems to be placed farther back. The Forte had more narrow imaging, I think, whereas the Corwall has a really wide soundstage. All of these opinions are based on stock, early 90's vintage Fortes, and the Cornwalls with unknown capacitor replacement at an unknown time in the past. Overall, I guess the Fortes sound a bit more like a modern speaker (which they are), and the Cornwalls sound more seductive. Hows that for a non-audiophile description? Oh, I listen using a NOSValves restored Fisher KX-100 amp, Thorens TD-125/Ortofon X3-MC turntable, and Carver SD/A-490t tube CD player.
  9. Thanks....I have extensive Klipsh hours under my belt with Forte II's, but these are my first "true" heritage.
  10. A friend of mine here in Houston turned me on to a pair of 1975 Cornwalls that he had seen at a local estate sale. I purchased them on Sunday, as I was waiting for discount day. The previous owner was an obvious music/gear lover, because although everything but the Klipsch and a pair of EPI 100 speakers had been purchased by the time I got there, the estate sale photos showed a Rega turntable (I think), as well as several other nice pieces of equipment. Anyway, after I got them home, I took the backs off so that I could check the capacitor values and decide if I wanted to replace them, or buy new Crites crossovers. To my surprise the crossovers had already been recapped with film (I think) caps. The larger value cap was an Electrocube 400VDC and the smaller was an unlabeled white cap. Anyway, the point is that I have never had this happen before, and I feel gratified that I was able to purchase these speakers from the estate of someone who obviously really cared for them. I may still buy the Crites crossovers, however. I think the original owner would approve.
  11. I had a great experience dealing with them as well when a MiniPro I bought got destroyed in shipping. Great people
  12. Or at least Mother Maybelle Carter's heart
  13. About a year and a half ago, I sold my Forte II's to a member of the Klipsch forum. I don't have a lot of extra storage space and can't keep lots of speakers like some of you guys. In the time since then, I have had EV Aristocrats, JBL C36's and C38's, Yamaha NS-1000's, Mirage M-7si (with SS amp instead of my tube amp), and JBL L100's in my main system. All of these are excellent speakers and were mostly taken out of rotation for the fun of trying something new. Anyway, today I saw a posting on the local craigslist for a pair of Forte II's and went and picked them up since I have regreted selling my original pair and because it was a super deal. They are in mint condition, and are walnut instead of the oiled oak of my old ones. This is the first time I have ever purchased a pair of speakers that I had previously owned, but the minute I hooked them up it was like going home again...ahh familiar sounds. Its nice to have a second chance to audition them! They really are a great pairing with my Fisher tube amp.
  14. There is a single 1953 Klipshorn on ebay in Texas. Maybe someone could play matchmaker.
  15. Well, thanks for all of your input, Bob. I suppose that as long as I can get the sound of the 2 tweeter to match using the l-pads I will live with it. They actually sound quite nice and I never would have guessed that there could be a potential problem if I hadn't broken out the multimeter. (you know what they say about a little bit of knowledge) Maybe I should order a pair of the 16 ohm diaphragms for the future, before they become unobtanium again.
  16. They actually do say 16 ohm on the back of them. I have been reading about the difference between measuring DC resistance(which is what I did) and actual impedance, but this still doesn't seem to account for the large difference I found. Luckily they seem balanced to my ear with the l-pad set on 3 or 4 (out of 10).
  17. Well, I just spoke with the original owner who said that the cabinet had not been opened since he built them...so no new diaphragms. Perhaps I didn't get the measurment right.
  18. Wow, that diaphragm replacement job takes much more skill than I have. Its funny that the readings for both the SP12 and T35 were lower in one speaker than in the other.
  19. They are the older models, I think. White with chrome horn. How do you feel about autoformers (these were recommended to me in another post regarding a different problem). If autoformers are not a good option here, could you PM me about having the diaphragms replaced?
  20. Thanks, Bob. Would I be better off having the diaphragms replaced with 16 ohm, adding resistance, or leaving them as is?
  21. Hi, if you have read my other posts recently, I have just recently obtained a pair of EV Aristocrat spekaers. These are a 16 ohm system, with 16 ohms clearly marked on the X36 crossover and T35 tweeter. I recently recapped the crossover, and while I had the cabinet apart I measured the resistance on each of the drivers, after disconnecting them. The two T35's measured 4.8 and 6.1 ohms, the two SP12 full range speakers measured 8.3 and 10.1 ohms, and the terminal measurment (with drivers reconnected and new caps) measured 9.1 and 10.8 ohs. I had thought that 16 ohm T35 tweeters should read closer to 13? Whats the deal here? Damaged coils? Replaced with incorrect diaphragms? Nothing to worry about? Thanks for any help......The world of compression drivers is new to me (except in my Forte II's which were new enough that I never had them apart).
  22. Want to buy pair of EV T25A drivers, preferably 16 ohm. Would also like the l-pads and X8 crossover. Thanks!
