    RT12D?

I keep hearing folks talk about this Klipsch sub, but I can't seem to find it on the website. It is really as good as the Velodyne DD series?
  2. These are not dinky sats. These are speakers that don't need subs to sound good, but I am looking for the complete full range sound in which I can control the bass very accurately. I don't wish to have the regular tone controls because it seems that the best amps don't have them as they degrade the sound. I could get the matching passive subs for these speakers, but then to get the proper control I would need a separate amp (or do I?) And in any case, if I get a sub like the Velodyne DD series, I get an incredible aount of control. That's why it seems better to me.
  3. I am thinking that 2 bookshelfs and a sub is better than 2 full range floorstanders. I used to have a full range speaker system (Gershman Acoustics X-1 & SW-1, destroyed by hurricane last season), and will only get the X-1 bookshelfs along with a sub. I figure that by having a separate sub, that I have more control in the bass (as opposed to a full range in which there is only the control that the manufacturer sets it at.) It would seem that a good bookshelf speaker that goes down to around 40-50 Hz or so would contain all the directional part of the sound, with the sub only supplying the really low bass. What do you all think?
  4. I'd like to get opinions on whether it would be better to get 1 or 2 subwoofers, assuming the same total cost (i.e., the 2 subwoofers would each cost half the price of the 1.) For what it's worth, I am looking at spending about $2-3K on the sub(s) (powered). It seems that a single Velodyne DD-12 or 15 would be a good match for my Gershman X-1's, but that perhaps having 2 subs would overall be better? OR perhaps these Velos are so good that getting something at half the price would a much lower level of quality that it far outwieghts any benefit from having 2 subs. Is there really a benefit to getting 2 subs?
  5. OK, here's my story. I used to have the Gershman Acoustics X-1 & matching SW-1 passive sub driven by an Adcom GFA-5400 amp. I was very pleased with the X-1 speakers, but I always felt the SW-1 subs were a bit lacking. I found myself often times boosting up the bass on the pre-amp, but it never really sounded right. I say this in the past tense because I used to live in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, and during Hurricane Katrina, my audio equipment did not know how to swim very well in the 9 feet of water that inundated my home. I have decided to repurchase the X-1 speakers for the main, but as for the amp and sub, I am inclined to get something better. I plan to only have 4 inputs into the system - a tuner, a laptop that will essentially be a WAV or MP3 player, another computer (very sparingly), and the TV. The amp will be driving only the main speakers, and the only requirement is that there be a remote so I can vary the volume at distance. The sub will be powered, so that it can have a loudness independent of the main speakers. I would also like to have the relative loudness for the sub controlled relatively easy (i.e., front), and of course, a remote control would be good as well. I would also prefer to get 2 smaller subs rather than one, as I think that the stereo effect would be better. I would be putting the subs on some type of a stand below the main speakers. I understand that there could be better placement in a corner, but I am constrained in the geometry. I could put the sub in the center between the mains as well. I would prefer the sub have lots of settings, as I don't really know what I would want until I actually set it up and start fiddling around with it. So, I am looking for any recommendations for an amp or a sub. It seems as there are plenty of good amps, I shouldn't have a problem (I am considering Bryston.) But I don't know a thing about subs, and my experience with using a sub for computer speakers leaves me a bit cold. I don't want to get something that is so expensive that it is limited by the quality of the Gershman speakers. But I want it to fit well. The specs on the SW-1 (which was designed to go with the X-1) is that there is a pass frequency of 90 Hz, for what it is worth. I would prefer not to get the SW-1 as I wasn't super pleased by its performance (and it's passive in any case.)
