  1. I just got back from Little Rock where I saw the '64 Tribute Band. I saw them about 8 years ago in San Francisco. Unbelievable! These guys are the ultimate Beatles tribute band. They use all vintage instruments ( Rickenbacker, Hofner, Gibson, Vox, etc,) for an original sound. They dress just like the lads did in the early days. They have their mannerisms, their haircuts, and harmonies that would make Lennon & McCartney take a second look. You would swear you were back at Shea ( without most of the screaming teeny boppers) watching the real thing. If I win the lottery, these guys are going to play the celebration party. It they come to your area ( they tour 140 dates a year) and you like the pre Sgt Pepper tunes, then you shouldn't miss them. They have played Carnagie Hall 7 times, and George Harrisons sister was so overcome, she had a party at her house for them.

Ok, this boys got a ticket to ride- to bed. All I have to do is, act naturally.

  2. Sorry guys, I missed it. I had to take my fiance to the emergency room this morning. Nothing major, she just slipped on the stairs and messed her knee up. I had initially bid $20.00 early on, and was going to go to $50.00. shoulda coulda woulda....

    I'll know better next time...

  3. I just purchased a Scott 296 that has been thru the NOS Valves "school of updating". I'm amazed at how good this thing sounds! My NOS Valves updated MC240 and MX110 don't sound twice as good as the Scott, even though they cost 3 times as much. Very impressed. I know O.B. would be proud...

    Thanks Craig...

  4. I have 26 reproduction GEC Tube labels if anyone wants to freshen up what they already have. They are made just like the originals. I have a customer in Taiwan who had some made and he sent me his extras. Send me your address and qty and I will mail some out to you. USA only, unless you want to pay the postage.

  5. I just purchased a Scott 296 tube amp and was wondering how important the 5AR4/GZ34 tube is? Does spending $$$ on a NOS Mullard or Amperex really make a difference? Or will a pair of GE's do the trick?

I have a variac that I had before I purchased my MC240 and MX110, so I use it all the time. I've heard that it can extend tube life- that's why I use it. There have been discussions here on the variac experience. You can find some new ones on Ebay for around $50-60.00. Someone else will chime in with some scientific studies to tell you more...

  7. I'm glad you enjoyed it Dee. Strawberry's is about 10 miles from my hometown, and anytime I go home I have to venture over there. As I mentioned, he has won Memphis in May several times and has really garnered a following. His pork steak is to die for- about 2 lbs if not more-no way to eat it all. It will easily fill a complete plate, from rim to rim. That and crisp fried okra and some home made au-gratain potatoes and you are ready for the easy chair, for sure...

I'm in Little Rock once a week so I am going to start trying the establishments that you all have mentioned.
