so the mains in a wall sometimes have a "boomy" sound? what if i get the speakers and then pack that space with, something, don't know what quite yet. maybe that would be worth a try....
-
i have another post that shows how i want to design my room. i quickly good the smx screen out of my head. i am just going to put the speakers in the wall and then cover them up. it may just be easier and cheaper. i am not even going to be looking at projectors for a while. i am going to be buying the house in march 08 and it won't be built in septerber. the technoloy we change so much by then.
-
well the answers seem consistent. thanks for the input. i was just wondering because i have had these speakers for 9 or so years. i bought them in germany when they first came out.
yes i do need a sub bad! don't get me wrong, i love mine, i just need a good front firing one! (at least i think i do).
jet, i think i have my eye set on outlaw, for now the 990 and i really don't know about the amp. my speakers have low watts so i don't need the power house amp, but i might want the "balanced" amp.
-
this would be the set up if someone could tell me a different sub to use. if i could get away with using 1 sub i just might put it in the center like this and the et stuff to the side. again the outlaw stuff to the left and the other et stuff to the right. this way i would have 5 places for stuff on the right side. just different options.
-
here is the "ideal" set up to me with all equipement. i put the et stuff in the middle and made room for 5 items. the two on the left are the outlaw 990 (bottom) and outlaw 7700 (top) the three on the right are for what ever. i can only think of putting a dvd player, and maybe a cable box at sometime for hight deff watching. PLEASE everyone is there is some other component i need there let me know now so i can tweek the drawing. if i go with the thx subs i know i need their amp (thats why i am not excited about doing that!) maybe a sony would go in there.
let me know what you think.

no i assure you those are the rf-63's. i took the dimentions off klipsch. i have to say with being able to draw, it makes it real simple to tell people how and where to build your stuff. i don't think i would go with the 83's because they are a lot more money and not much more in specks. i have a small room so i really don't need high powered speakers. i will stick with the 10.5 untill i have about $6000 burning a hole in my pocket! i am really just trying to get the wall set up right.

regardless of which speakers i have, this question goes to the set up or angle of the speaker. it is better to angle the speaker like thx says or keep them straight like dolby says? does it matter? will acoustics have that answer? preferred method? here is a pdf of the layout, one front speaker is between 22 and 30 degrees facing forward and the other speaker is angles at 22 degrees or so facing the listener.
-
here is the 10.5 speaker set up, there is only 1 sub (if i were to need a front firing sub, i will most likely buy 2)
i don't know why but i have 3 other pics in there. the 10.5 set up is the black speakers without the copper centers (the smaller set)

here is the pdf of the RF-63 speaker set up and available room in the wall.

i was wondering which floor standing speakers work best if they are placed in a wall. i will have 3d pdf showing how the wall will be constructed and the placement (rough placement). please feel free to shower me with do's and don'ts. i don't want to have to build this wall again. i made the holes for the speakers big because i now own 10.5 set up and i might switch to the rf-63. i will show both pdf's so you get a clear pic. i believe i will have a cut out in the center front for the electronics, the pdf won't show it yet...still thinking of where to put it. also i will ask this question again in this post (i have it posted under the sub woofer section) will a down firing sub work in a wall?
i was also wondering do you angle the speakers, especially the front? on dolby digital web site it say 22-30 degrees. the picture looks like the speakers are not angles, but on the thx site the speakers are. which way are you suppose to do it or does it matter....Mas this one has your name all over it.....lol
-
i will post the 3d pic of the room i am desiging later. for now the question can a rear firing sub work if it is hidden in a wall or should i get a front firing one? i see the thx sub, i was wondering if there is a better one or at least a different one that works as well?

hey guys and girls,
i need an honest question answered. the speakers i have are in my sig, are they good, bad, okay, needs desperate improvement? i would like to upgrade, they sound good to me, but i really don't know better. if i were to upgrade which choice would be best or should i let my ears decide for me?
-
indyklipschfan, quick question about the screen, it says 106" is that diagonal or across? (i assume it is diagonal, but i would like to know for sure) where did you get it?
-
jet jockey,
when i go to that web site, what are some search options i should choose? i am so new to this i don't even know what questions to ask. so far the only option i know to look for is checking the "HD 720." one of the projectors that came up was from 'infocus" and it said it also does 1080p but the projector was around $3000.
-
yeah, i live in lewvisville. that would be nice to stop by and have a look see...
so having the speakers (at least the center) project through the screen is going to be expencive right? i guess having the center just below it, isn't that big of a deal.
so the average screen size is 96" (80" across), what was the link to the canada company everyone here seems to be using and what sizes do they use? what are some specks to look for in a screen? is it best to have one retract or just hang there? i would assume having one that can roll up would be ideal if i want to change screen size.
-
heres a quick representation in cad. the screen size is 96" (80" across) and all the dimensions are what they should be (80 x .73 for tv viewing distance). heres a new pickle, if i were to mount the sub into the wall, i would need a front firing sub right? right now i have the ksw-12 which is rear firing, that would work in a wall would it?

if you knew what i watch tv on you would laugh, its the old 36" tube analog tv. (i am assuming me and falcon have the same tv-mines the toshiba...lol) i barley watch that much tv in the first place. the main goal is to have a nice ht room that i can enjoy. i also don't want to kill the pocket book either.
another question, if i go with the big screen can i put the speakers behind it, like into the wall? which speakers allows for that? does it hurt the sound if they are not at 45 degrees (or atleast the ideal set up dolby digital and thx say?
-
i take it no one is buying anything 1080p as of yet. so i should just go with a 720p or 1080i projector for now and wait a few years.
-
at first for my ht, i wanted overhead projection. i went to a sony store and just fell in love with the 70" tv. then the price of it all hit me, the projection 1080p was $9000 then i had to buy the screen and the 70" tv was $6000. (now i already checked on line and i can get the tv for $4000). i have noticed here, almost everyone has the projection. there must be a reason. i need to know this reason...
my thinking is i don't need a screen 100" across screen, i will only have a 13'x15' room. i would like to get a 1080p because everything is moving that way, even quite a few tv channels. if i go with the projection, what is the optional screen size or is there too many variables to get an answer for that. i just don't want to end up buying a projection and the picture isn't that great because i blew it up too big. if i did do projection, i would most likely put the speakers in the wall, which series of speakers are best?
if anyone can suggest a good projection or some info where i can make a good education decision, i would greatly appreciate it.
thanks again.

soundbroker,
the dealer of the speakers can calibrate them? i own an old set of klipsch, is there any dealer in texas you know that can come over and set them up? is this a thx thing only?
-
hey man,
don't worry you won't be able to give me a hard time with this one. i am not the one who bought the "evil" thx speakers. i am just offering a "drawing" of approximate dimensions. the use of the drawing is just a guide of how the speakers should be facing and the approximate location in the room. westcott is very right, once you get the speakers in the general location, you will have to play with them and more importantly after you get the room set up the acoustic treatment is next.
-
yeah, it seems that klipsch lovers are just nicer people.
-
oh i would love to! just let me know where i can find a store that actually sells the rf63 speakers and i am there! maybe i will invite myself to some of the guys that are here and listen to their media room...lol. truth is i WANT to upgrade, but i won't unless i can hear a difference.
-
hey mas, i would think you would have avoided this post like the plague! you know i meant that thx.com says the tv SHOULD be the dimension of your tv across x .73 is where you should sit. PHUNT knows that once he sets everything up he has to do the tunning with the processor and then the acoustic treatment.
i would have drew him up the dolby digital config, but since he spent the money on the thx speakers, you might as well follow it all the way through. i am also assuming he will go out and buy all monster cables.
