  1. i can tell you working on aircraft we do this. the twisted pair of wires, with no sheild, alone will prevent some emi. the twisted pair with the sheild prevents most emi. now according to the engineers i work with, you can float one end and ground the other and it will work just fine. also in most cases you just float both ends and it should also work as well. in the aircraft we have hundreds of these pairs of wires running mostly over 100' all tied together. we normally ground both ends, but there is a few applications that we just ground one end.

    sounds a little gibberish...

basically you don't HAVE to ground an end. you CAN ground one end and you will be okay. if you can ground both ends it may work better. the only thing to remember keep as much of the sheild as possible. only strip back no more than 3" on each end. also trim the sheild so there are no stray strands and if you have it, put heat shrink over the cut strands so it makes it a clean termination. (basically covering up the sheith that is cut back).

  2. mas,

i knew you would chime in. i am just trying to get a little feel on what to look for in a speaker. i currently have the 10.5 set up. i don't really know if i have something that is ok, good, great, or well it will do. if i look to upgrade i need to know what i actually am upgrading. it is obvious that the rf 83 and rf63 have much better numbers than mine, but again i don't really know if my numbers are even bad. i figured when i bought them, klipsch is the greatest speakers the average person can buy. anything above klipsch to me starts around $10,000 a speaker. i defiantly know you won't be able to go to c.c. and buy better speakers. (i was going to say b.b. but they now sell klipsch) i have my eye on the rf63 set, and i know they are a better speaker, i just don't know how much better they are and are they worth the extra money. to date i love the sound, all the movies i play sound awesome.

that is all that i was meaning by asking the question. i know you can't solely judge a speaker by a few numbers.

  3. alright, i will adjust the drawing when i get home. just remember the dimentions will never be exact because the construction of the wall isn't perfect. this way with the drawing it gives you some kind "look" how to set it up (at least the way thx states). let me know if there is any additions you will need. i can draw in the chairs if you use the belkon ones. i have the dimentions for those.

  4. here you go. i drew the room up. i used the dimensions from klipsch... of course...and i input all the dimensions from thx.com

this is where you want your speaker placement according to thx.com. don't forget after you get all this stuff placed in there and hooked up, you will need some kind of acoustic treatment. thats a whole other ball of wax. i for one have no idea how to do it right, so i just might hire someone.

if this is how you actually want to set up your room i will give you the dimensions for the speaker placement, like from what distance they are on the wall...stuff like that. also i guessed about the tv. i am assuming you meant 92" ACROSS it matters to thx. i would need the ACROSS dimension.

  5. jet jockey, what cockpit pic is that from???

mpmiller, just my suggestion, either go with outlaw audio (www.outlawaudio.com) and get the 990/7700 combo, or go with sunfire. sunfire will be a lot more money. quite a few people here stick with the outlaw because it's not that expencive and it works great.

i suggested the 7700 because it is the 7 channel amp and it's ballanced, it's also 200watts per channel. you didn't list the speakers so i didn't know what kind of watts you can handle.

  6. okay, not too sure about how the house is built or where you are running it from, but here is an idea.

take the wire and wrap it with a paper clip, several times if you have to. then take a good high powered magnet. see where i am going with this one...when you put the wire in the hole, place the magnet over it, the pull the wire with the magnet.

    just an idea.

  7. hey guys, just jumping in for a second. i looked at blue jeans and cable solutions (it the ebay company i am talking about), and blue jeans uses 24awg twisted with a copper wrap (used as a conductor) and cable solutions uses a quad cable with 21 awg. now obviously cable solutions uses larger wire, but why a quad set up? what is the extra wire used for? i check both web sites and there is no explanation for this. please help, it may determine my next amp.

  8. i live in lewisville right now, i might be moving to rockwall.

yeah i was asking for you worked for dassault in little rock. that would be cool to do the training on those planes. i worked for the company for 4 years building every model they have. i like the 2000 line the most. the 50ex was a pain in the neck! i have to admit they are some of the best built planes out there. the inspection on them takes so long and they are very through.

  9. you can also call them. i don't know too much about blue jeans tech support but i know Cable solutions has great tech support. the guy there doesn't even try to sell the most expencive stuff, unless your application really needs it.

  10. well i am not the smartest when it comes to this but i would think it would be best to use one of the bedrooms as a dedicated media room instead of that living room. if you are just looking at putting a tv and some small speakers around the room, anything you do will be fine. if you are looking for the "movie" experience than you will need a dedicated media room.

if you get the plasma and place it over the fire place, then i would go with small speakers around the room, no more than a 5.1. the small speakers i am suggesting are the ones that come with their own stand or at least the ones you put on a stand and not mount on a wall.

just my 2 cents. i hope it helps a little.

  11. well i looked over the Dolby digital set up and this is how it would look in my room. they had all variable dimensions so i drew the min, middle, and max. i also color coded them. too bad i couldn't install some kind of hanging speaker bracket that allowed me to travel those dimensions. the TV is 7' 10", that should be far enough. also, you can call me cheap all you want but i decided to not get the big expensive home media furniture. i am going to go with the "executive chair." you can get them at wally world for around $80 each. the reason i am doing this is, there is a movie theater near me called studio movie grill. the entire movie theater only uses the executive chair. i enjoy my movies in those so i will enjoy the movies at my house in the same chair.
