  1. I agree with the sound quality of the original CD. It was so bad, I thought I was going to ruin my RF-7's. However, the tracks used for Guitar Hero III are much, much quieter, and the sound is far better. There is at least one online petition to re-master or re-engineer the album, but who knows what will become of it. As usual, YMMV.
  2. The cable runs are about 10 feet at the most. The receiver is an older Sony budget model. About 90w/channel I think.
  3. you know, that's not a bad idea. They do sound pretty good with the cable I'm using. (14ga monster) But I think I might try some 12 to see if that improves things any. It's the most I can do until I can replace the real weak link in the chain. The receiver.
  4. Some of you may remember back in October when I posted about my newly purchased RF-7's that arrived damaged. I am writing this to let you know that UPS and their insurance carrier came through. The accepted responsibility for the damage, and today I received a check for just over $1100. That is pretty good considering I paid $1500 ish for the speakers. Thanks goes out to the person I purchased them from, his ebay ID is wwstereo, changed from rock2zep. He handled all the communication with ebay, and forwarded the payment. Since we sent an estimate for repair, and told the insurance that I am repairing them, UPS does not get them back. So, $400 brand new RF-7's, complete with factory warranty, and a couple blemishes that aren't visible from in front of the speakers is a pretty damn good deal I think. WW Oh, and thanks to the fine folks at Klipsch who helped out with a few questions. Some great folks over there.
  5. I don't have any room to build anything to conceal the speakers, plus the fact that they do pull double duty for HT and 2 channel use. I would love to have UPS pay to have them brought back to the new condition they were in before being shipped. My problem is that I'm not sure what direction to go to have that done. Complete cabinet rebuild, or replacement of the damaged panels. And that is what I need input on. Has anyone had repairs done to cabinets? Having UPS simply replace them would be great too, but new RF-7's aren't exactly all over the place right now. Wayne
  6. UPS has accepted responsiblity for the damage to my RF-7's. Now we will see how much they will pay. On that note, what suggestions can you give as to whether I should try and have the cabinets repaired, or just build new ones. Who should I check with about rebuilding? What materials did Klipsch use to make them, does the kind of glue matter, etc, etc. Or, should I just live with them damaged. The damage is all cosmetic, and only visible from the back, except for the one speaker that has the broken foot. That speaker has cabinet damage on the front side, where the foot was. Thanks in advance, Wayne
  7. Oh, I admit the packaging wasn't stellar, but you would think that they wouldn't get thrown around, and poked by a forklift. The way they are packaged should hold up to normal shipping, which I normally get from UPS.
  8. They were packed in the original boxes, the same way Klipsch sends them out from the factory. (Unless they ship them without feet) Otherwise, in the plastic bag, with the foam on the top and bottom, the grille in a box, and the cardboard corners. Should have been good enough. Oh well.. WW
  9. Well, UPS isn't going to get them, come hell or high water. As long as they pay me for the damage, then I'll go away happy. Otherwise, I'll be a pain in UPS' *** for a while. They beat up the speakers, they should pay. Without getting the speakers themselves. WW
  10. They wanted to take the speakers and boxes for an estimate. My wife took the call, since I was at work, and more or less told them to go pack sand. She let them know that these are expensive speakers, and that I (me) was not going to let them out of my sight. (especially since they are the ones that hosed them up to begin with). The lady from UPS said, ok, we will send an email requesting pictures. They did, I am going to take the pictures, and see what happens from there. WW
  11. Since I kind of Hijacked my own thread earlier, I'll repost my problem in a new thread. If this is the wrong place for this discussion, please feel free to move it to the right forum. UPS damaged the speakers in shipment, breaking the foot off of one, and denting and scratching both cabinets. They didn't hurt any of the drivers themselves, just the cabinets. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do as far as fixing or rebuilding the cabinets? I want to get estimates for use in the claim process against UPS. Fortunately, it didn't hurt the sound any, as near as I can tell. They sound awesome. Thanks, Wayne
  12. umm, they forgot to mention that. Here's the best I can do... Wayne
  13. ??? Yep, there is an AM station that has it's broadcast towers about 1/3 of a mile or less from his house. Anytime the sub was plugged into power, it would pick up the station, and you could actually hear it over the sub. It would feed back into the rest of his system when that was all powered up, but it wasn't very loud. When all was off, you could hear the station coming from only the sub. Unplug it, and it would go away. When they would cut back their transmitting power at night, it would go almost completely away. When I got the sub home, and went to plug it in, I found that the ground prong had been cut off of the power cord. My guess, the ungrounded sub was becoming a nice fat antenna. None the less, it scored me a nice sub at a nice price ($150). I have had no problems with it. Wayne
  14. Thank you all for the input. I will not worry about bi-wiring for now. I still may however, bump up to 12 ga we will see. I did buy cheaper monstercable when I cabled my house, and good guys screwed up when they rang it up, so I got it even cheaper. Didn't find that out until the cable got home though. The upgrade bug is starting to bite already. I want to move up to a bigger Denon receiver, not to mention a better center, and satellites. Time to keep my eyes open for a cheap RC-7. The speakers do sound awesome, and really improved the depth and quality of sound from the home theater. Considering the POS HT in a box bookshelf speakers I was using, something from Bo** would have been an improvement I'm afraid. Anyhow, on to my complaint. UPS damaged the speakers in shipment, breaking the foot off of one, and denting and scratching both cabinets. They didn't hurt any of the speakers themselves, just the cabinets. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do as far as fixing or rebuilding the cabinets? I want to get estimates for use in the claim process against UPS. Thanks for the warm welcome. Wayne
  15. I just signed up to this forum now that I have a set of RF-7's on the way. I was introduced to Klipsch about 4 years ago by a friend that had Klipsch subs and mains. (I don't remember exactly which model mains, but they are very similar to the RF-7. 10" woofers with a horn.) The subs are KSW 200. It was a very impressive set up, and when he decided to sell one of his KSW 200's, (it was picking up a very close AM station) I snapped it up. What a difference it made in my set up. I've had my eye on the RF-7's for some time now, and when I found out they were discontinued, I looked around and bought a pair. I am anxiously awaiting their delivery so I can get of what I am using now. Just for reference, my current set-up is a Sony STR DE675 (100W/ch) receiver, a Denon DVD1920 dvd player, the before mentioned sub, and a Jensen HT in a box speaker set. While not great, the Jensens have gotten me by until now. I will have to continue using the Jensen center and satellites until such time as budget can justify new centers and satellites. So, my question now would be, what should I do for care and feeding of the RF-7's? They are black, are currently going to be fed with single pair monster 14GA cable. I will very shortly be upgrading that to thicker Monster Cable and Bi-wiring them. Anything else I should know? I'm looking forward to interacting with the forum. It seems to be very informative, and a great place to hang out. I also didn't realize that Klipsch owners can be so radical. (read as rabidly faithful to the brand) Guess I need to listen to a set of Khorns sometime. Thanks
