  1. Hello, I attended last year at I think it was at Boomac's house, not sure. We met at a local diner in Hartford on a Saturday morning, I was the guy with the restored red '70 240Z. I would like to attend if I can get away. I'm interested in hearing all systems and also would like to bring my BAT 51 SE preamp to see what if anything it brings to the table. My '96 Khorns sound very nice with this preamp but until I can get a 75SE matching amp would like to hear it paired with other equipment, preferably tube. Currently running it with a Bryston 3B NRB. Could only hang for the afternoon if I can get away but would like to hear peoples experiences etc.
  2. Hello Sue, That sounds like a really good price. Everyone on this forum will laugh at what I paid for my Chorus II's on eBay which was $1100. The gentleman I bought them from was the original owner and lived only about an hour and a half away. He had the original invoice for $1800 from his local audio store and loved them. As with all used anything it comes down to how they were treated and what they look like and sound. When I saw them I knew I made a good purchase. Sure you can find a really nice pair for $600 - $800 if you have patience and luck. What I find though is what most people consider mint is really just average. It all depends on what is important to you. To me I would much rather spend a few extra hundred and get exactly what I want than spend the rest of my time owning them saying "I really wish I would have found X with X etc." A classic example I'll give is this. My friend bought a pair of used Heresy's and after awhile started down the upgrade road as in new tweeters, new mid horn diaphrams, upgraded crossovers etc. In the end he had a pair of beat up cabinets and over $1000 into an old used set of Heresy's. New ones cost I think around $1500 with warrantee and really sound great compared to what he has. My point is be careful on what you buy and what you want in the end. If upgrades and new looking speakers are not that important to you than you will be in great shape. If you have a higher expectation though it pays to be more realistic in what you might find. This is not to say you will not find a mint set somewhere... you might and that makes for great deal stories down the road. The key is always location with Klipsch speakers as they weigh a ton and shipping can sometimes run $300 - $400 depending on the speaker and shipping container the seller is willing to put together. I am selling my Chorus II's in the next couple of weeks only because I bought a pair of Khorns and have to sell the other pair to help offset the cost of the KHorns. Chorus's sound great and I do hope you find the right pair. Goodluck!
  3. I have just now finally had the time to sit down and chime in on what a great time I had last Saturday. For me the day started out meeting the group at a local Diner for breakfast. Since I had not ever met anyone before I had a chance to meet several other groups of guys and ask them if they were with the Klipsch Forum. The funniest wrong group I met was the guy who was hard-of-hearing who I immediately ruled out ;-) After surveying the the room I noticed two guys walk in and one had a t-shirt on with big KLIPSCH letters, thanks John. After introductions with Scott, Paul, John, Craig and Damon (I think, I'm terrible with names first go-around) I listened to some very funny stories of past experiences and then we headed out to Scott's home to listen to some music. Paul asked if he could drive back with me in my 240Z and even after telling him I had not yet installed the passenger seatbelts still was up for it, although I was not able to do any spirited driving because of it ..... next time I'll be ready Paul!!! At Scott's home we met Susan his wife who couldn't have been more gracious and their friendly Golden Lab who wanted us to play fetch rather than listen to music - so we did that for awhile and Susan told us some history of the dog all the while it was taking Scott's "good" tennis balls out of the basket and wanting to play (don't tell Scott though)! Then it was off to listen to some music. We started out listening to a recently rebuilt Scott 299 that I think Craig worked on and it sound very nice on the pair of Fortes that they were hooked up to. From there it off to the finished basement with dedicated listening and HT room. To me who still has an unfinished basement it was like heaven. Scott you did a fantastic job! The built in Cornwall's sounded wonderfull through the BAT and Well Tempered equipment. Scott played some very nice vinyl Jazz recordings while Paul and John listened too. I had a chance to hear some classical piano from a CD Paul had and that too sounded outstanding. I had brought some music as well I wanted to hear on Scott's system but always like to hear other peoples music first as that really is a great way to expand ones taste and library. Great stuff guys! Anyways next time I'll have more time and then I can drag you through some of my favorites (but be forwarned I like it loud and intense). Thank you to all I met and to you Scott for hosting a wonderful event on Saturday. Bottom line is a first class forum with first class members. Now lets get Paul back on this thing and start to spice things up a bit!
  4. Sorry for the late notice but I live in the Sussex WI area and have been involved with Klipsch speakers now for about two years and just read this recent thread. My general story is graduating from Magneplanars to a pair of Klipsch Chorus II's (talk about 180° of change) and most recently purchased a mint pair of WO Klipsch Khorns with a vintage of 1996. I was driving the Chorus II's with a pair of Bryston 3B's amps and a Bryston .5B Preamp and now want to move into the Tube arena especially after demoing a Audio Research VT 50 amplifier. The two 3B's running mono are just way too much power for what I need. I have been looking into the tube world and would enjoy hearing from some more knowledgeable people than myself. I was completely blown away by the Khorn sound and want to have some clear direction on building a system around them. With a recent purchase of a Rega Apollo CD player I've come to understand the value of "Red Book" CD's and what they can really sound like. I also purchase a Rega P3 turntable to dive back into my vinyl collection and have enjoyed that quite a bit. What I was thinking was if I could join you folks for maybe an hour or two and get a chance to discuss your experiences it might be a huge help to me. Anyways, great to know there are some Klipsch people around the area. Jeff
