  1. Thanks for the info SWL[Y] I only have my old JVC DVD player at the moment and I am amazed at the sound quality out of that. Which brings up another nice feature this receiver has. It can detect what format the music is in and uses those speakers accordingly ( meaning if it is in 2 channel stereo it turns off the amps for the for surrounds plus detects what Dolby format it is in for all inputs) You can over ride this if you wish but so far I don't see a need for it. Now for some more good news I did some reading in here last night in the "What is the best Blue-ray player out there" thread and found the overwhelming recommendation for the Sony PS3. Well I did a search on Shopzilla.com and found one at TigerDirect.com for $399.00 + $2.00 shipping and ordered it. It should be here Friday. Man there are some really good deals out there this Christmas. Also I am looking at a pair of 1978 HWO Heresy speakers for $575.00 plus shipping in near mint condition. Is this a good price or should I try and hagle some more. This guy is holding firm. I think this is the same year as my Horns. I do know they are Walnut and match my Horns. Can someone tell me the year for Type K-C-WR Serial# 4L566 and 4L567 Klipsch Horns. I asked this when I got them but have since deleted the e-mail and forgot how to tell the exact year. Thanks everyone for your help and this is a great informative blog.

  4. Well I made my decision and decided to go in a different direction all together. I did alot of research on the Internet and at Myer Emco, plus Tweeter and then decided to go with an AVR instead of a pre-amp. So after looking into all the different features available the one that met all my needs, sounded the best in the show room and has the most advanced technology was the Denon AVR 3808ci. http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/3510.asp I decided on what receiver to get after spending time listening to the many brands of receivers at the showrooms, I then looked up reviews and information on the Internet for the AVR's that most interested me. Plus the one biggest convincer for me to go Denon was the thread "Show Me Your System" I went picture to picture and noticed that close to 50% of Klipsch systems are powered by Denon Equipment. But the one feature that I love about this receiver is it has an ethernet connection so you can listen to Internet radio stations. Now for how I shopped for this receiver. ONE WORD "Internet" I found it selling for $1499.99 at Myer Emco, $1599.00 at Best Buy so I then did a search on "shopzilla.com" and found it for $1114.00/ shipping included at "eComElectronics.com" . I will note that I did get one of those annoying phone calls the next day trying to sell me an extended warranty and way overpriced cables. I did turned them down until they got so low on the warranty $78.00 for 2 years that I asked how much for 4 years and they stated $109.00. I decide to go for it for at that price. That is a 6 year warranty on the equipment!! But this did raise the total price to $1223.00 but is still much lower than any other competitor without the warranty. After this the transaction went very smooth and the receiver arrived via UPS 2 days later. After the receiver arrived it was time to put the Adcoms back in their boxes and wait for another day. I preordered 10' HDMI cable from Overstock.com for $10.99 ea.( I already have the RCA cables). I then hooked up my HD-DVR and Plasma Via HDMI, and Ethernet cable for Internet access to radio. I then turned her on and I am completely amazed at the difference from my old JVC surround receiver. It is so much cleaner and realistic that it freaks my dogs out!!!! I was watching a Nature program on Alaskan wolves in HD and it drove my dogs nuts!!! Also whenever a door closes or there is a knock they immediately bark and run for the door. Well now I am starting to look on e-bay for a pair of Heresy speakers for the rear, so to make this a complete Heritage sound system. Also now I am not happy with my Polk center channel speaker ( sounds to bland compared to the horns, so I am considering changing that also). I would love to put a LaScalla or Heresy for the center but there is not enough room for it at this point. Any Idea's? The one good thing is my Yamaha sub woofer works perfectly with the horns. Well that is it for now! I have to continue to progam the reciever and try to get all my equipment to work on one remote.
  5. Thanks Dougdrake, I will start doing a little reasurch on that reciever, I did start looking into McIntosh and I do like the C220 preamp but it is only a 2 channel preamp, it is not designed for home theater applications so I am still looking.
  6. Hello all, I am going to start with I have a pair of Klipsh horns from the late 70s (still sound perfect) and I am starting to think about building up my system around them. Keep in mind these components have been acquired over the years and I only plan on keeping the Horns and Amps for a very long time. I do plan on upgrading most everything else over time as funds become available up until I have the system that will follow me the rest of my life! Meaning High End components. Also I am a frugal shopper and get most of my equipment used so Vintage equipment is not out of the question. The only critera I have is a multi channel pre-amp. Currently I have these components. SPEAKERS, 2- Klipsh Horns, 2- Klipsh SF2, 1 Polk center channel, and a Yamaha YST SW305 power sub-woffer POWER, JVC home theater receiver used as a pre-amp, 2- Adcom GFA 545-2 Power amps. I currently have the system wired this way. I am using the receiver as a pre-amp for the front, rear speakers, (front K Horns, Rear Klipsch SF2s) and sub-woffer. I still utilize the receiver to power the center channel speaker (Polk Csi30) and I am at a point now where I am beginning to plan out my system while still utilizing the Adcom power amps. So I am looking to upgrade to a true Pre-amp system and need some recommendations of how the get the most out of my horns. Note; I am open to any recomendations including where I may be going wrong about my intentions already. Thanks All
  7. Anyone, where can you get replcement speakers please help
  8. Hello Everyone, I screwed up the other day listening to my klipsch horns with sf2s as rear speakers and blew a woofer on one of my sf2's. They are just out of warranty and I need to replace it. Where can I get a factory replacement for a reasonable cost.
