  1. another tip for you DIY'ers. After you have skimmed the last coat, and before you sand, there is an easy way to check your work for any dings, knicks or tears you may have missed. Use a flashlight to scan the entire surface of sheetrock. The light will magnify any deficiencies. This is particlarly important if you are not texturing, or if you are doing a light texture that will not hide all imperfections. Just an fyi...
  2. Also, Is it cherry or black? Thanks
  3. You are in Austin, correct? What is the condition/etc...? Have any pics?
  4. I'm a home builder down in Texas. You will most definitely NOT have any problems using different products. <> For example....When Sheetrock crews "Tape and Float" a house (after "hang"ing it) they will use a joint compound similar to what you mentioned you first used. It is very slow to dry, as you will usually need 1-2 days for it to dry before you can put a layer of "skim" over the first coat of float over the tape. <>When a sheetrocker does "patch" work, they will almost exclusively use "Quick Set". This is a compound that is made to dry much more quickly. The benefit is that you do not have to wait long to then texture and paint a new patch of sheetrock. <> <>The reason a crew would not typically use "quick set" for a whole house job is because of the material costs. Aside from that, as the damon mentioned above, as long as the prior 'mud' is dry, use whatever you want. <> <><>As far as the vinyl spackling goes, I assume it is a pre-made mix in a tub. I've used similar products before to do "Minor" repairs. I don't believe that using it for your "skim" coat would be your best bet. <> <><><>Go to the hardware store and ask for a "quick set" compound. It will be just like what you originally used, a powder that you mix with water. <> <><><><>If you would like some more 'tips' on sheetrock, or have more questions, I'll do what I can to help.

    SB2 vs F3

About 4-5 years ago i was in the same situation as you. I absolutely love my rf-3's. I've been completely satisfied. They add so much depth over a smaller bookshelf. Even though you have a sub I believe you would greatly benefit.
  6. Ok, I hate to hijack this thread, but now i'm concerned about my system after reading this thread. I have an older yamaha RX-V630 that puts out a minimum RMS of 75 watts per channel 6.1. It has a max power of 110 watts- 1 kHz, 10% THD, 8 O. I have this receiver running rf-3II's for my mains, and an rc-3 center and two ref bookshelf speakers. The mains say 150 w max continuous and 600 w peak. Center is the same but with 400w peak. Am i doing something wrong? Thanks for the help

    RT-10d

Any comments from people who have these so far? Ive been searchin on the web but cannot find many reviews. Only the press releases announcing the line. Does anyone have any links to reviews? Thanks
  8. I'm actually in Austin for just this thanksgiving week. Would you sell the RT-12d separately, and what price if so? Heading back to houston Sunday. Thanks
  9. that's exactly how I was feeling, but now it's back to the drawing board. I'm confused at why a reference sub would be released that cannot compete with the synergy version....Rw12/sub12. So now I guess I'm still looking for some ideas.... What about the Hsu VTF3 HO?
  10. it's not so much the financing but the price that i'm interested in. I sure hope this isn't a sale for previous customers only.
  11. could you not still purchase it online, say on friday or saturday? I guess I don't understand how the internet e-commerce site can be closed on the weekend? Should still be able to make your purchase. Maybe they don't process the order till monday, but at that price it's worth waiting a couple extra days to receive it.

  13. MrMcGoo: Where did you see or hear about those prices? If that is true...i'd get the rsw12 in a heartbeat at that price. I guess I'll be keeping my eyes peeled and my wallet handy for the weekend.
  14. TheEar I was asking about the RW12d, 699 ish.. I would obviously assume the RT12D is supremely superiour. Thanks again so far for responses
  15. how does this Sub12 compare to the RW12d? Thanks
  16. I could really use some ideas on subs. I have the klipsch RF 3II system. It's a little older, but still works very nice. I have never gotten a sub because I didn't need it living in apartments, etc. I now have the perfect home theatre room setup....i'm just missing one thing, a sub. I would be using it for probably a 60/40 HT/Music split. I'm including HDTV in the HT. I of course would like some low down bang for the buck, but i definitely do not want to lose out on musical/tonal quality. Also, can someone please help me understand the benefits of both a sealed unit vs. a ported enclosure. I'm looking for something in the range of 500-800. I've been reading about several for starters. Listened to RW-12d, Martin Logan Abyss (was not set up well). I want to hear an rsw10d (would need to save a month or two). Also read about the rsw10 which is on sale at onecall. Have heard decent about mirage s-12. Thanks in advance!
