  1. Thanks for the responses guys - thats why i love this place. I've contacted both Klipsch Support as well as send Bob C. an e-mai. Frzninvt, you mentioned changing the diaphragm - is it really as simple as that. I mean there is no sound at all? If the diaphragm was bad, wouldn't that atleast make a distorting sound or something?
  2. So I finially went to my cousin's to listen to a pair of Heresy's for the first time. His opinion was that, although they sound good, they are no where close to being as detailed as the Cornwalls he heard at my place. I was shocked he felt that way - so anyways, I went there for a listen and found out that the tweeters were not working on either speaker - hence the reason why he was missing the detail. When I auditioned them - they sounded muffeled - put my ear on the tweeters and absolutely no sound. I contacted the guy who we purchased from and was told "Sorry, they were sold as is" - I was so mad because the ad also listed "perform flawlessly". I would assume when someone tells me that the speakers perform flawlessly - that means all components are fully functional. Agghhhhhhhh. Over the phone the guy sounded really nice and offered to meet half way - now I know why. Anyways - what do you guys suggest I do - in terms of getting the Heresys running - We paid $250 so i guess that gives us a little cussion. How do I check if its the tweeters not working or is it the crossover or do I just need to replace the diaphram? Please let me know how you think i should proceed.
  3. nu2toob, Thanks for the offer, I will get in touch with my cousin and let you know. Just to make sure, its like this one right: http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?intatube&1192630284 these seems to be two types where i browse audiogon
  4. Is that the sophia "baby" amp - there are a few on Audiogon for $350 - is that the model you are selling?
  5. Hi all, As you know I picked up a pair of Heresy's II for my cousin just last week (the ones in West Virginia). He is looking for a budget tube intergrated amp. Do you guys have any recommendations around the $600+- a few range? Any advice will be much appreciated.
  6. Spoke with Will, He is no longer taking orders for the Baldwins. He says he is retired and he has been inundated with orders. He suggested anyone who is interested should wait a couple of weeks before they can order Just thought I let those who maybe interested know.
  7. As some of you may know - I had sold my Fisher 500C not too long ago. I just replaced it the other day with a Marantz 2285. I loved the fisher but it just never could deliver the "thump" of a solid state (bass). Now with the Marantz, although a beautiful receiver - man do I realize a huge difference between the mid and the high or the tubed Fisher 500 and the solid state Marantz. For some strange reason - when I went from Solid State to tubes - there was a difference but nothing like "Wow". Now, I went from tubes to solid state - and now the difference is "wow"-but only in a negative way. I guess for the few months I owned the Fisher, I got used to the tube sound, and now having a little bit trouble enjoying solid state. Tubes are just so much "sweater" - for lack of a better word. The person I bought the Marantz had always keep it in good condition but it had not been sitting unused for the past 8 years. I am going to try to open it up and deox it. I dont know if that will help any. I might just have to end up selling the Marantz and finding more tube equipment.
  8. I myself was bidding on these - but only 500 and then never followed up because i was thinking they were going to probably go between 900-1100 and didnt quite need a thrid pair of cornwalls. If i was keeping up, i would have easily offered 800.
  9. ... I am hoping its a forum member - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=260149271202&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=016 I had posted these earlers but I am socked no one jumped on them.... $560 for pair of Cornwall II to me is a steal - and they look to be in great condition.
  10. Are you only looking for trade or would you be interested in a straight sale for cash? Is so, please PM your asking price
  11. Are the amps still available? Please let me know - I might be interested 240-505-0548.
  12. ..... I just saw a deal on craigslist yesterday for a McIntosh Pre C-28 and and Amp - MC 2505 for $800 with orignal manuals and orignal walnut case... I was the first to e-mail the person - offering to pay full price. He even agreed i was the first to contact him. However, he later changed his mind and decided to sell it to someone who offered more. Now if the ad said "obo", i would understand. But to start taking bids on cragislist after having a set price - thats not fair. I guess i'm just mad that I missed a good deal of McIntosh equipment - I would like to buy something in good condition but can not afford to pay e-bay prices.
  13. I acutally have a pair of AR-2Ax that need restoring - I was thinking about doing it but later opted not to. If anyone here is interested, they are more than welcom to have them for $60 bucks - they need restoring - but I am including a refoam kit spare woofers and spare tweeter spare crossovers and spare mids.
  14. streyle, i think i just responded to your craigslist ad (ignore that e-mail - did not know you are a member here). anyways, I will glady have you and LarryC over in the very near future - I just that i've been traveling much for work and I also have family in town - if you can wait a week or two - i will definitely have you guys over.
  15. I was thinking about using heatlock as well - I believe there is a forum member here who restores vintage Klipsch speakers and I remember reading on his site how he felt heat lock works perfectly as well as reducing the changes of air bubbles.
  16. I was actually going to buy the lacewood veneer from oakwoodveneer.com - part of the reason what i was considering the lacewood is because I dont have to worry about matching the veneer on the two speakers (like most khorns have matched veneer). If i went with any other wood veneer - then i would have to buy to peices and make sure they were consecutive so the veneer would match - however, this is not a big issue withe lacewood do to the patter of the grain. I myself have never veneered before - A very close friend of my is very good with veneer and wood work in general and has veneer several speakers - he plans on helping me out. He added that since I am putting the veneer only on the front of the bass bin of the khorns, it would not be too difficult of a project.
  17. Thats what i was thinking too but my khorns are the model that have no riser and are plain raw birch. If I had the higher model with the risers and nice veneer - I would never think about anything to the,. They still look beautiful.
  18. guys, please comment on my idea too - its going to cost me about 200 bucks for the veneer alone - let me know what you guys think
  19. I have a pair of 1977 Khorns Raw Birch without the riser. They are going to be placed in an extention to our house that is currently in construction. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the way the look - Joe (who I bought it from) kept them in near flawless condition. Although the K-horns are always pleasent to look at - I was still thinking about making some cosmetic changes to it. What I had in mind was finish the top section in black - put lacewood veen on the front of the bass bins, paint the back black - and potentially add a riser. - i.e. turn my 1977 K-horns to look a lot like the 60th anniversary khorns - I can even get my uncle to make me the silver klipsch logo. Let me know what you guys think.
  20. I totally agree..655 is a damn good deal, even if you dont want the components - you could easily ebay them for over $300 i imagin, making the true cost of the Cornwalls no more than 350.

  22. http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-Cornwall-Floor-Standing-Loud-Speakers_W0QQitemZ260149271202QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item260149271202 If it wasn't for the distance, I would buy these in a heart beat. 800 seems like a fair price to me for pair of Cornwalls II
  23. I am about to pick up Yamaha CR-2040 receiver this evening for $125 - pricy or not its still cheaper than e-bay. It will be replacing my Sonic Impact Super T (the Silver Aluminum one - btw let me know if anyone is interested in purchasing that. I was going to put it on audiogon for 100 or $85 to forum members). Back to the Yamaha - any opionions - I was reading some random forums and although the Sansui 9090db is more expensive - most preferred the "natural sound" of the yamaha. I also bought Marantz 2285 off ebay for $190. which i was planning on hooking up to my Cornwalls. I will leave feedback on the marantz once it arrives (for those who are curious).
  24. Damn those look so nice - I have two pair of cornwalls but I can never have enough - anyone making a trip from LA to DC?
