  1. I think the most cost-effective RCM is the KAB-EV1. All you have to do is hook up your home vacuum cleaner to it and use arm power to spin the records while cleaning.

I have one and it is just as effective as the VPIs although not as convenient to use especially for large number of records. But, it is significantly cheaper and you can easily store it when not in use.

I think the most important thing is to go out and listen (if you can) and not base your purchase solely on other people's opinion as one man's meat is another man's poison.

  3. Yea, I meant Isopropyl Alcohol. Useful stuff for cleaning solder joints and vinyl Smile.gif

Thanks for the compliment. It actually took me more time to procure the hardware, drill the required holes and finish the chassis than to actually solder it. Now my next step is to do some cap swapping with the new Audio Note PIO.

  4. Hi deang,

Paralleling 10 & 5 ohm resistors does not give you 0.3 but instead 3 1/3 ohms.

The power rating of the resistors just means that it can handle 5W before it goes poof. If you parallel the 2 resistors together, the current flowing through each resistor is reduced as opposed to if they were connected in series. Simply put, you don't have to be concerned about the power rating of the resistors.

As for the accuracy of the resistors, those bar type resistors are ceramic types and I don't think their accuracy is that good. So even a 5.5 ohm one will probably fluctuate between +/- 5%. I suppose the best way would be to select resistors with values as close as possible to the original wherever possible.

  5. Just some personal observations and experience here.

I have never been able to get a shiny finish if I use eutectic 63/37 solder. However, it is easier to work with as the melting temp. is lower. Silver-based solder requires a higher wattage iron and the worst to use are those lead-free kind unless you have a soldering station like a Hakko, Goot or Weller.

Oh ya, if the solder has a flux resin core, then there is no need to use additional flux to condition the joint to be made. Just make sure the surfaces are clean.

Another thing is to remove the excess flux after soldering by cleaning the job using a cotton bud dipped in IPA.

  6. Hi mike,

Check out this link for some DIY vinyl cleaning recipes.

I use a combination of distilled water, IPA, a surfactant (easily available from most photography accessories shop) and a mild non-abrasive detergent (dish washing detergent).

Do not use tap water as it might have some mineral content that might scratch the vinyl or some other contaminant that is detrimental to the vinyl surface.

  7. Hi dean,

If you want to know more about the soldering procedure, you might find this link useful:

    Hope this helps.

  8. 1. What Heritage speakers have you owned, currently own, or want to own?

    1982 Cornwalls.

    2. What was your age when you first purchased a Heritage series loudspeaker?

    24

    3. What is your current age?

    25 :P

    4. Why did you choose Heritage loudspeakers over another Klipsch model?

Require high sensitivity to drive my 2.75W amps. Also the Heritage series are well-regarded for quality of sound and construction.

    5. If you currently own some Heritage loudspeakers, and could purchase some more Klipsch speakers(new or used), which ones would you purchase? Why?

If I have the room and resources, then it will be the Klipschorns.

    6. Do you think the upcoming Jubilee should become part of the "Heritage" line, since it was also designed by PWK?

  9. Hi,

I clean my vinyl using the economical yet effective KAB-EV1 available from KABUSA .

Basically, one would need to wet clean a record only once. However, before playing a record, do a dry clean using a carbon fiber brush.

The TNT Audio website gives a good overview on record cleaning and maintenance. Do check it out at http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/fluids.html

Another good site to read up on is
