  1. This has become a really educational post. Robert
  2. It is getting clearer. Thanks for the addition info. Robert
  3. Silly question! How does a compression driver work? I have looked on the insides and changed diaphrams but, I just can not understand how these fragile looking diaphrams can make so much sound especialy at the lower frequencies. Thanks for any info. Robert
  4. I just experienced the same thing. Questioning the tech that did the install, what he said is; a1) a separated cable tuner box just for the DVD recorder. The problem is how to keep the remote from operating the other box unless you cover it up or something. 2(Rent the DVR with dual channels and he recommended staying away from TiVo, his opinion not mine. 3) Buy a new TV with built in DTV tuner. You still have to have the cable company intall a card of some sort and use the little DTV box on your DVD recorder. 4) Build a HTPC. You can build a system with up to four tuner cards. You supposedly can not receive any programing straight from the cable without going through the new little box. This new system has rendered all my DVD recorders set ups obsolete. I am no expert, just sharing what I have recently learned. I am examing all alternatives. Robert[:S]
  5. Some compression drivers advertise the use of ferrofluid with the voice coil to improve power handling etc. Question is, I have never received any ferrofluid in a diaphram replacement kit. Is the fluid not applied or is it not a liquid that can be applied? Thanks for any info.
  6. I have 2 in perfect working order I will sell for $50.00/pair + shipping. I prefer paypal.
  7. Wow! Thanks for this response. I think I understand it now.
  8. What does it mean when individuals talk about a driver being underdamped or overdamped and how do you identify each.
  9. Thanks for these responses. They helped a lot.
  10. How do you know when an amplifier is not performing like it did when new?
  11. I just wanted to wish[8-|] the forum members Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Also, thanks for all the info posted by members. I am amazed everyday at what new info becomes available. Thanks,
  12. I have only used the Rockford amp for the low end for the last many years (sic). It will pound the poop out of the bass system. Back when I did private DJ work I would bridge it and drive up to 4 EV 18" subs without ever clipping. I set up all my systems by ear and experience. Seems to work. I also do not have any measuring equipment.
  13. [8-|]The amp was something I picked up at a sale of discontinued stereo equipment about 20 years ago. It has been serviced once since then. I am attaching a file for your info. Yes I am thinking of going 2 way. I had it set up that way and decided to try a super tweeter. I actually think the EV driver sounds better without a super tweeter. The horn is from Parts Express. It is a Goldwood GM-450PB for $49.25 each and they sound just great. Actually I think I am going to change it back to two way over the holidays. RF2000_amp_man.pdf
  14. I do not have anything fancy, but it does work. I always have a little hiss from the compression drivers but it is very, very low. I use the amp section of a Harmon Kardon 3485 stereo receiver rated at 100 watts RMS. A little overkill but, I do not have anything smaller at this time. The mids are powered with a Hafler 120 and the bass section is powered with a Rockford Fosgate stereo amp, 250 watts RMS @ 8ohms. A Behringer active xover CX3400, crossover points - 500 and 7000, and an Audio Control 10 band EQ. Speakers consist of: Highs - Emminence APT 150 Mids - Electrovoice DH1a 2" driver with 90x40 CD horn Bass - 5cuft Vented cabinet with an Emminence Kappa Pro 15lf tuned to 35hz.
  15. Yes. I change cable and the buzz dissappeared.
  16. The problem was a bad cable. PITA to track down, but got it. Thanks for your suggestions.
  17. Different amps. I will try unplugging inputs and report back.
  18. My system has developed a buzzing sound coming out of my high frequency driver/horn. System uses active crossover and three amps. The buzz is only in high freq section. It is one volume, doesn't turn up or down. Any help!
  19. Another picture. How do you place more than one picture in a post? Admin cut me off after 2 posts.
  20. What type of horns are these? These were passed to me for the cost of shipping only. However no info. The measurements are: 11" wide, the mouth opening is 4.75", and lenght is 11". It is set up for 2" drivers. Link to more photos: http://s1009.photobucket.com/albums/af217/biglaz01/
