  1. I too purchased a Quintet III Microsystem and am using my existing Velodyne CHT-8 sub. I also purchased a new Yamaha HTR-5960 receiver to replace my 5 year old Onkyo the had limited crossover settings. The Yamaha has an auto setup using a mic to make various speaker settings, check wiring and set the crossover. IMO it worked very well. It set the crossover at 120Hz, the speakers to small and was very accurate with the speaker distances. I have received very good suggestions about increasing the crossover. My next setting above 120 is 160 so I have manually set the crossover to 160Hz (actually back and forth to see what I think sounds better). Prior to this set up I had Definitive bi-polar tower speakers and center speaker with small satellite surround speakers I had for 10 years. I just wanted to make a change to a smaller system and have always liked the reputation of Kilpsch so I read about the Quintet III on the internet, was able to hear them at Best Buy, really liked what I saw and heard and purchased them .I am not disappointed. And...a high current amp makes a lot of difference IMO. Good luck.
  2. I agree. I checked last night and the Yamaha set the crossover at 120Hz. I may set a little higher this weekend just to try but I think it sounds very good at 120. Also, the speaker distances as set by the YPOA are very accurate.
  3. I ran the Yamaha YPAO auto calibration setup for setting speaker sizes, distance, volume, etc. and crossover setting. Yamaha suggested to set sub crossover at 120 and sub volume to a little less than half prior to running the auto setup. I have not viewed the setup results yet and will do that this weekend but I am very satisfied with the sound compared to last week when I was struggling with an older Onkyo receiver with limited adjustmenst especially crossover settings. My old receiver had 3 crossover settings 80, 100, 120Hz. I was advised on another forum to set crossover higher than as 120 most speakers (or most speakers my size maybe) may/do not perform effeciently all the way down to their low number. I will be curious to see where the Yamaha set the crossover.
  4. My Velodyne sub goes into standby mode after a certain amount of inactivity. They recommend using a splitter for connection to L&R as LFE signals can be low when the volume is set low and sometimes this is not enough to wake up the sub. Supposedly making both connections helps.
  5. I recently purchased the same Quintet III system. I have a Velodyne CHT8 sub and a Yamaha HTR-5960 receiver. I used the Yamaha auto calibration mic for speaker and crossover settings. Seems to me it did a nice job but I am no expert. Do you have the 10" Klipsch sub? What model and do you like it?
  6. I have the Quintet III microsystem, Velodyne CHT8 sub and Yamaha HTR-5969 receiver. I am considering upgrading to a 10" sub. What type of subwoofer is best fitted for my speaker system? Thanks for your comments.
