  1. I have the cash, I have a little bit of wood construction know how, I have friends w/ tools and I have time. I was hoping to get suggestions on materials and components, and then a basic idea of how to hook up all the audio stuff inside, which way to fire the thing, etc. Basically, I'm a huge movie buff, and my favorite part of movies is the sounds so I thought I should learn a little bout audio, and what better way than to take on a project like this. Any help would be appreciated guys. I'm assuming the project wouldn't cost more than 600?? But cash really isn't a big constraint, more like I just don't wanna spend that much on my first try. Thanks! - Shawn
  2. I'm a total audio noob, but I've heard so much about DIY subs, can someone help me out or direct me to a previous post of this type? Anyone live near Cleveland/Akron Ohio or Columbia, SC?
  3. Hey, I'm a total audio noob. And there are a million options for subwoofers and receivers. I just inherited an old pair of Quartets from my uncle and recently purchased a KV-3 center channel and am looking at gettin' some KG 2.2's as my surrounds. Now I need a receiver and subwoofer. I'm gonna be using the system mostly for home theater and have had a lot of trouble finding out what to buy for these components. I've heard a couple good things about SVS subs and found a decently priced one on ebay, but that would be a splurge for me. As for receiver I've been looking at the Yamaha RXV661. Do these sound like quality choices? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks a lot.
  4. Thanks a lot guys. Glad to hear this stuff, was really worried that I was in for a big let down with these things. Awesome, well now I'm just working on finishing the 5.1, with my budget it's lookin' like some KG's for rear and center. Thanks again! Shawn
  5. I just got an old set of Quartets from my uncle, and it appears as though his kids got at the uncovered passives. The inner cones on each of them are a little crumpled and pushed in. I haven't tested them yet because I don't have a receiver, but will this affect their sound, and if it does how can I go about fixing them?
