  1.

I'm afraid of sanding them because I might not be able to sand far enough to get the old stain off...
id be leary of possibly ruining a speaker and leaving no resale value. might be better to sell and find a good deal on walnut set. i remember world wide stereo had a sale if you bought the towers at full price the center was free.

That's a really good deal. I have mine listed on craigslist but am only getting lowball offers. Maybe I'll talk to a cabinet maker and see how much a set of walnut cabinets would cost and swap everything over...

  2. Scrappy,

I may have to eat crow. :o I think you may be correct.:)

They are still beautiful! That would match my new furniture much nicer than the cherry. I'm afraid of sanding them because I might not be able to sand far enough to get the old stain off...

  3. They are the same price. And if you look up any pictures of them I'm about 99% positive they are not walnut. Rather a different veneer stained walnut. To be honest they look like oak to me with a dark walnut stain. I just built a new center channel and mimicked the finish perfect in my opinion.

Nice! I was also thinking they looked like oak. As long as the color is walnut, the wife will be happy. Maybe I can attempt to just sand mine and stain them, or have new cabinets made out of walnut. I wouldn't want to sand too much though...Hmm. Got any pictures of your center? Thanks!

  4. So I was hoping someone with a set of walnut RF-7ii's would chime in...are these more than the regular price of the cherry or black? I have cherry RF-7ii's and a RC-64ii. Changing out furniture and going with mostly walnut. I may be willing to trade the three of my speakers for a pair of the RF-7ii s in walnut...probably not going to happen but figured I'd throw it out there. Thanks!

  5.

Moved to a new house and unfortunately selling some of my gear. This is my favorite sub that I have owned thus far. It is in like new condition and absolutely beautiful. I still have the original box and packing material for safe transport. They only offer this sub in black now. I know one day I'll regret selling this but a smaller place and a new child... Asking $1800 or best reasonable offer. I know that's a bit expensive for a used sub but again, it's like new, cherry in color and you can no longer get it. Prefer local pickup in Carmichael Ca.

    Sledge or Bash amp?

It has the Sledge amp. Purchased in 2012 new from SVS.

  7. I went from the 83s to the 7IIs. I am completely satisfied with the change. I too am in a very small space and can't take full advantage of them but they still sound awesome to me. My 83s were black and a I decided to get cherry 7IIs. I am so happy with the finish which makes it easier for me to justify the $$$ spent on the upgrade. They sound great with the 13 Ultra too. Wish I had 2 of em like you!

  8. Thanks everyone for your infomation on the matter. I went with an open box Denon AVR-1712 and it works great and got a great deal on it.

Glad to hear you're up and running! Did you get it from Vanns?

  9. Your best bet would be to look on craigslist. I would get one with
HDMI capabilities. There are several brands that are very nice. I would
look for a Denon, Marantz, Pioneer or Onkyo. I always see killer deals on like
new receivers. Many people are upgrading to 3d hdmi receivers and selling their non 3d hdmi receivers. So if you don't care about the 3d just get one of those.

As far as power, pretty much all of the newer
receivers will have enough juice to run your 82s. I used a 85 wpc Onkyo
to run my rf-83s and it sounded good. Down the road you might want to
consider a separate amp. I finally did and it made a big difference but it certainly isn't necessary right now.
  10. The y-adaptor definitely helped out. I also need to do a firmware update on the Denon which may or may not help the weak SW out signal. I still have to have the sub turned up pretty high to get the desired bass.

I just watched the new Underworld and it sounded very good. Lots of good scenes to test out the sub. SVS sure makes awesome subs and their customer service is top notch.

  11. I tried the Denon one more time before taking it in. I talked again with SVS and after using a y-splitter and turning the sub way up, it sounds good. The Denon is sending the sub a weak signal but will work for now. I just have to have it turned up pretty high but that's okay. Eventually I will get a new pre-amp

  12. be sure and call the guys at svs and have them help you set it up. they will offer some great advice. unless you dont want to call, me pm me and i will share the info, it is worth it for sure!!

I called SVS after I set it up and they said that it must be something in the receiver.

Thank you for trying to help. I appreciate it! Hopefully it's just the SW jack on the Denon.

  13. Sweet lookin sub you got there =^)

I had this problem when I first ran audyssey on my 4311. When I first ran it, it said the sub (SW-115) was turned up too high and it had me turn it down to 75db at the LP, which was at about 8-9 o'clock on the dial. Then I ran audyssey, which set my sub level at -3.0db, and watched Jurassic Park. There was really no bass at all, so in the end, I just turned the dial up. Maybe the wrong way to go about it, but it sounds how I like it now. Looking back, I probably should have turned the level up in the AVR instead of the dial on the sub, but oh well. I need to run audyssey again anyways...

    Thanks!

It's not just the audyssey that's not working correctly. Even when I have everything turned way up, the sub is barely working. I plugged it into my old nakamichi receiver and the sub works like it should. I need to have the SW jack on the Denon tested I guess. There is a place close to me that works on receivers so I'll take it their tomorrow.Hopefully it's an easy/cheap fix.
