  1. Funny you guys say Heresy's because I actually have a pair and am picking up a set of RF-5's this weekend. I figured the 5's would be better for HT than the Heresy's. Thoughts?
  2. I cant afford the new RF-7II's, nor do I want to lug them all over the world while I am in the NAVY. Is there any chance that Klipsch is in the processs of working up some RF-5's with components similar to the ones in the RF-7II's and RC-64II's?
  3. I actually need to update my profile. I am in California for the time being (NAVY). I already found a set of very good condition RF-5's here in LA and will be picking them up ($380 for the pair). When I lived in the bay area the getting was very good, similar to that in Phoenix. I will keep my eye out and maybe in my travels with the military I will find a pair.
  4. Thanks for the responses. I will be picking up a pair of RF-5's locally next week but was doing research online and saw the classics and man they look good. I really like the finished wood look with the grill off.
  5. I am looking for a set but have not even seen than anyone has ever had them in stock. Did Klipsch actually release these? These are the ones with the smooth grain dark cherry finish. If anyone has them please let me know. Pictures would be great too[].
  6. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0040QW7RY/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&qid=1308437460&sr=1-60&condition=new Is this for real? I haven't seen one this cheep used.
  7. God bless Craigslist. Its been about six months since I had to sell my Forte II's, which I loved dearly, and now money isnt so tight. So I have been toying with the idea of getting a pair of La Scalas. There isnt much in the central valley of California when it comes to Klipsch and then an add came up for a pair of Heresys for $150.....ok....so I called the guy up and he says there in ok shape with no damage to the woofer and that they were oak. Since he said they were in good shape I figured I couldnt go wrong with anything that worked for $150. So I go to meet him and he pulls out Heresy II's with risers! I handed him his 150 and was on my way. I dont have them home yet to listen on my HK but they sound very nice on my dad's old Yamaha. I was very impressed with how well they play classical. Also, I was wondering if the x-over is connected to the plate that the terminals are on, on the back of the speaker? One of the terminals is busted and Im wondering if I need to replace the whole plate or if I can just swap in a new terminal.
  8. Just wanted to let everyone know how well these two go together. I know that some people have complained about the base in the Fortes and how certin amps just dont provide enough oomph. Well, the 3480 performs flawlessly, with bass to spare. Just FYI to anyone looking for a great receiver at a great price that pairs excellently with Klipsch. I got mine refurb from HK on ebay for $109.
  9. Thanks DrWho. I just did a search on Craigslist and there is a guy selling a Rotel RSX-972 for $300. Its a little more than I was looking to spend, but with 75wpc and the ability to go surround if I wanted to it might be a better choice. Does anyone have experience with this unit?
  10. DrWho, are you saying to hook the inner speakers to the fronts and the outer ones to the rear surrounds? I have thought of using an AVR but am worried about the power that I can afford at this point. I could get an AVR 135 for about the same price as the 3480, but with something like 40wpc would that be enough for the Forte's to sound good?
  11. How about a strait up trade?....you would have to pay for the shipping though.[]
  12. Thanks for the info tom and Frz, thats exactly what I wanted to know. I only ask because I had an older sony stereo receiver and it wouldnt let me play both the A and B speakers at the same time. Now I just need to save a little green.
  13. I have been looking at the HK3480 because of cost, 120wpc and I think HK sounds really good with Klipsch. For the amp/pro option I have seen a few 4-channel amps for sale reciently. The PA2000 is 45wpc for 4-channels and that would most likley be plenty of power and not break the bank. Then use an AVR135 or for the processor. I dont know if any of these options would work but thats what I am thinking.
  14. So after my recient purchase of four Forte II's I will literally have no money for anything else for a very long time. I do however plan on using the Fortes for two channel studying music and some movies in the bedroom. I dont really want to put one set in storage or leave themthe garage so my question is has anyone done this and is it possible? I know you can hook up two sets of speakers to say the H/K 3480 but I dont think you can have both blaring at the same time. The only thing I can think is using a 4-channel amp and splittilg the signal from a preamp? Thoughts?
  15. ...On the reselling note. Id probably get rid of my 7's before the Fortes[]
  16. There is one on ebay right now but its at $150 and change and I dont even have that kind of scratch right now...moving truck rentals are expensive. I think im just going to use them for 2-channel in the bedroom and later on when I have money and my kids arent writing all over everything ill can the 7's and move them to the living room.
  17. I know what you mean wuzzer, after hearing the Forte II's I almost regret getting my RF-7 system. I think Ill keep it though for my living room for now. Maybe if I can find another deal and get a few more Heritage speakers I will go all Heritage HT. It funny how people always want to know how much you paid. I always hated it because I was never able to get those kind of deals, like the guy that bought Heresy's at a garage sale for $50. I would not sat that I "stole" these by any streatch of the imagination. As I hinted to before I paid $300 a pair...or $600 for the four, which I guess is a deal considering the condition they are in, which is new.
  18. I was kidding about the $300 for LaScalas or Bells.....I did however see a pair of LaScalas for sale for $350, but it was too late.
  19. Those would actually come in handy for moving...Im already paranoid about the passives.[*-)]
  20. Thanks colterphoto1, I am going to have to weigh my options. I think Ill just tape cardboard over them for now during our move that is coming up. Man these speakers are nice...anyone have a pair of Lascalas or Bells they will sell me for $300?
  21. Is it ok to but screws in the back of the cabinet like that? I am one of those "leave it completely origional" type of people for value reasons, even though I do not plan on selling. I also understand that having to replace the passive would also be a real pain. I do have a 1 year old but these are going in the master bedroom which, in theory, he shouldnt be in unless we are there too. Thoughts?
  22. I already hooked them up and man...they blow the RF-3's they replaced right out of the water. So crisp and clear with tight base, Im in love. Anybody on the fence about the older Klipsch speakers should buy with no fear....they sound amazing. I checked the dates too...both pair are 90's and both are sequential, a nice bonus.
  23. 4 OF THEM! God bless Craigslist, and welthy people. I got a lead on a lady that wanted to get rid of some klipsch speakers because she was moving and didnt want to have to haul them. Called her up and she said they were Forte II's in nice condition so I took a trip. When I get there and she lets me in the door (of a 15,000sf house!) there are not one pair but two pair of oiled walnut Forte II's in immaculate condition....9.5 out of 10 at least. She goes on to tell me that they were in the house when she bought it and just wants to get some moey for them and get rid of them. She said that they were probably bought when the huse was bilt and but into cabinets in the two intertainment centers in the house and never touched since...hardely even used! Needless to say I drove home with all 4 and now my wife is going to kill me.....or buy lots more shoes. Here's some pics. 24. I am looking at purchasing a pair of Heresy's and have some questions. The person that is selling them does not have a digital camera so I am having to go off what he is telling me. First, the grill sounds like its from the II because he says the emblem is in the middle and has KLIPSCH spelled out. Second, the cabinet is unfinished birch, which I dont think the III's come in. The evidence for them being III's is that they have the concentric pleats in the woofer like the III's and he said that the crossover is 5e, which he said was from the latest version of the Heresy's. I am looking at picking these up for $250 so Ill probably get them either way, I am just wondering.
  25. I do not have an SPL meter but I think that would be overkill in my current situation. The apartment we live in right now in probably the most unacoustic place you can imagine. I dont even have enought room for proper placement of the sub so for testing it I have it just sitting in front of the entertainment center. I did adjust the gain on the sub itself and that calmed it down.
