  1. What brand ant type of capacitor do you recommend? Robert
  2. How are they braced. Looking at a pic of the LaScala II, I do not see anything obvious. I have another question. What is the nominal impedance of 1976 pair of LaScalas? I know the specs on the website say 8 ohms, but I wondered it there was a more "real-world" answer.
  3. How do I get intouch with him? Does he have a website?
  4. I was reading some other areas of the Klipsch Forum and as suggested, checked the tweeters with a DVM and they are both open. I will call Klipsch tomorrow and get a price on replacement voice coils.
  5. THe product registration card is still stapled to the back of one of the cabinets. Do you think I should send it in, indicating how unpleased I am that the crossover netowrk only lasted ~30 years?
  6. That is what I had planned on. Now I have a question. It seems that the tweeters are not working when connected to the crossover network. They do work when powered directly. I know dumb thing to do, but the volume was set real low. These are 1976 speakers from the date code, so that is an AA crossover. What is the most likely culprit. Oh and do those old can capacitors contain PCBs?
  7. Well I figured that disassembly was not possible. I just wanted confirmation.
  8. I got the speakers home tonight. I did not think to take a camera with me. Here are a couple of pics of them in my laundry room. http://sport-touring.org/DCP_4108a.jpg http://sport-touring.org/DCP_4110.jpg
  9. I talked with them and they are OK with me removing the grill and installing new ones!!! This will work out better for tham as the grills I construct will be removable, should they ever have a need to use them. This will be much easier than removing the casing of the folding stairs. In my work we do a lot of this...
  10. That was the first thing I checked. It is 1" too narrow...
  11. The access is a folding staircase, as found in homes. I can not remove the folding stairs. The only option is to remove the grill cloth. I hope they are open to that plan.
  12. They went in through the opening in the wall and the grill was added later. The grill can not be removed easily as a frame was nailed to the wall on all sides of the grill. The grill cloth will have to be cut out, if they approve. This is not a house, it is a church and one long ridge vent.
  13. That is my conclusion as well. I will talk with them Monday and see if I can remove the grills and replace with new cloth.
  14. How true. I was there this morning looking at how to remove the cloth grills without destroying them. It is not possible, however, I am going to talk to them about removing the old grills and replacing them, after the speakers are removed.
  15. These speakers are in the attic of a building so there is plenty of room to take them apart. However, the attic opening is too small for the speakers to be removed. They project sound through a set of grills built into the walls. The grills were built, without any thought of ever removing them. So can they be disassembled?
