  1. Since your not mounting it on the wall, check out the Sony KDS 50A3000 rear projection. You can buy 2 of these TV's with your budget. No lost contrast issues (flat panels), burn-in screens (plasma), or size issues (older rear projections). It's 14" wide and 70lbs. LCos-based SXRD technology, the most color-accurate RPTV money can buy today, full 1080p resolution, motion enhancer (120Hz processing), and 3 HDMI inputs. If your not afraid of buying online (just make sure they are a Sony authorized dealer and it's not a refurb), check out www.vanns.com. Last week my best friend bought his for 1299.00 no tax, free shipping, free Harmony 550 remote, and 18 months no interest financing. I bought mine locally for 1299.00 but had to pay tax. And no I don't work for Vann's.

  2. I am not accociated at all with Hi Fi Buys. And by the way, I am originally from Steubenville, Ohio, just 40 miles from Pittsburgh, and my in-laws live in Champion, Pa. about 5 minutes from Seven Spings ski resort. GO STEELERS!!! It is my understanding that only plasma sets have the potential for burn- in, and even that is only a fraction of what it was with earlier models since these sets can now recover from most image retention scenarios. All other technologies such as LCD, DLP, LCos, are not affected by screen burn-in because they don't use phosphor technology. Check these links out.....Jmelet

  3. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING until you check out the Sony KDS 50A3000. I was in the same boat you were, looking at 46" to 50" flat panels and plasma's in the 2000.00-3000.00 range But the newer Sony A series projections, particularly the LCoS based SXRD technology, are a different breed. It is much thinner and lighter than the older projections, just 14" thick and 70 lbs., has the new craze in HDTV's, 120Hz processing motion-flow, has 1080p resolution, 3 HDMI inputs, has deep black levels with best in class primary color accuracies, and is a beautiful looking TV. When the lamp goes out in 3-6 years, you can replace the bulb yourself, and its like a new TV all over again. No lost contrast levels like flat panels or burn in screens like plasma's. I found mine BRAND NEW IN THE BOX at Hi Fi Buys in Nashville, Tenn. for an incredible low price of just 1299.00 + tax. (financed by Sony - 18 months, same as cash, no payments, no interest). Check this TV out online and then go check the picture quality out in person. I promise, you will be amazed.......JMelet

  4. My system is definately mid-fi:

Adcom GFA 5500 Amp, Adcom GFP 715 Pre, Denon DCM 560 CD, Sony 500 ES Tuner, Klipsch Forte I's, Audioquest Speaker Cable and Interconnects.

My system sounds very good at low to mid volumes, but can get very bright and fatiguing at higher volumes on certain CD's. Speaker placement is critical in my 22'x18' den. I have my Forte's pointed straight out, about 2' from any wall and not angled in at all. ( For years I had them angled in and corner loaded tight, until I read a reveiw on the Forte's and the guy talked about how the Klipsch recommended placement was dead wrong )

My musical tastes vary. 70's rock, fusion, blues, jazz, americana, and alot of newer progressive music heard on WRLT.com in Nashville, Tenn. Give them a listen. Thanks guys, I love this forum......Jmelet
