  1. In you dorm room! Wow, that is impressive! You neighbors must hate you. Can you PM me the dealer name?
  2. After much discussion and sleeping on it, there are many factors not related to speaker performance that are making me lean toward the RF-82 HT setup. Some of it is my wife, some money, and some size constraints. It is now probably a slim chance that I will be getting the RF-63 & RC-64 combo. I know that I will be happy with the RF-82 HT setup. I will be able to use it for HT immediately. My wife was not enticed by the short term savings of $350, but instead focused on the additional $1500-$2000 cost of completing the RF-63 HT setup. I must admit, I was also worried about that. Like I said, I am in between homes. It is hard to believe that I started this search looking at a pair of new RF-35's only. I would say that I am about 80/20 toward the RF-82 HT setup. I will let you all know how it turns out...
  3. I also have an update on the shopping. I have narrowed it down from about a dozen configuration and options. I have two packages to consider. Package A: $2350 for RF-82 (pair), RC-62, RS-52 (pair), & RSW-10d (all in black) Package B: $2000 for RF-63 (pair) & RC-64 (all in cherry) If I go with package B, then I will have to purchase the rest of the HT setup down the road.
  4. L&C and the Prof, How far from the wall should I have the RF-82 vs. the RF-63? Prof, You mentioned a 12ft listening distance for the RF-63, but what about the RF-82. L&C, How do you have yours set up? BTW, my current room is only 13'x17'x8' and I can only take advantage of the 13' distance. Not ideal or acceptable, but temporary for the next year or two. I am in between houses.
  5. You have all been extremely helpful and I greatly appreciate it. My biggest problem now is finding somewhere to listen to the RF-63. The dealer locator on the Klipsch website is not very flexible. I type in my zip code and it shows two results. I have to start guessing neighboring zip codes in order to expand my search radius. So far, I have found five dealers and contacted four of them. None have anything above the RF-82 on the showroom floor. I will be contacting the fifth tomorrow. Let's hope that I get lucky. I was at least able to give the RF-82 a proper test drive at the closest dealer (5.31 miles). I will keep you up to date with my adventures.
  6. Thanks for the link. I have been looking at them for some time now. You are right, they are not an authorized reseller. After shipping, it comes to $1480. If I pick it up, it would cost $1465 after tax. I actually got a quote for $1500 from an authorized dealer in Delaware and I don't have to pay tax. Delaware is also much closer. If I go the RF-63 route, I will pay the extra $20-$35 to get an intact warranty.
  7. Wow! You guys are sure making this decision difficult. I really want the RF-63, but with the discount that I was offered on the RF-82, makes this very difficult. If this dealer would just sweeten the price a little bit more that the standard 15% that every store gives without batting an eye, this would have been a no brainer. I noticed that in the product descriptions of the RF-82 and RF-63, that they both have compression drivers. Is the one in the RF-63 a significant upgrade? What other upgrades exist in the RF-63? Is the RF-63 a flatter speaker than the RF-82? What is the minimum distance from the RF-82? Are really one of the design engineers of the RF-82 and RF-63? I know, a lot or questions, right!
  8. The American made construction is not as important as quality made construction. If you are telling me that the RF-82's are not American made construction and therefore not quality construction, then I will definitely consider that. Otherwise, it is not very important. The real wood cherry veneer is very important to me. I love the idea and how is looks in pictures, but have never seen it in person. The sound quality is very important to me. Will the RF-63 require a larger room? BTW, I just got the price on the RF-63 and an RF-63, RC-64 combo, and they were not nearly as good a deal as the RF-82, RC-62, RS-52, RSW-10d combo. I was getting about 30% off of the RF-82 HT combo ($2350 vs $3350 retail), 15% off of the RF-63, RC-64 combo ($2300 vs $2700 retail), and 8.3% off of the RF-63 pair ($1650 vs $1800 retail). I was so impressed with his RF-82 HT combo price, that I thought I could expect similar discounts on the RF-63, RC-64 combo and RF-63 pair. The question for me is what is my best deal for overall satifaction vs. price!?!?!?!
  9. When I speak of $800 difference, I am talking just about the RF-82 and RF-63 pairs and not the center, surrounds, or sub.
  10. I am not sure how to tell if the RF-82 or RF-63 is too much for a room. Let's assume standard 8'-9' ceilings. Is there minimum room size that is suggested for these two speakers? Is there a minimum distance that they should be from the wall, each other, or the listener? I didn't give my room dimensions because they are going to change in the near future when purchase a new home.
  11. Not yet. Let me look into it. Do they have something comparable in that price range?
  12. I can get a deal on the RF-82 set for $2350. That is $1000 off MSRP. I don't have a price on RF-63 yet. The RF-83 is out of my price range. Is the RF-63 worth the $800 step up over th RF-82 for just the mains?
  13. I am trying to decide between the RF-82 and the RF-63. I don't really know what makes the RF-63 $800 more for the pair. I have been unable to find them anywhere to demo. I ultimately want to get the matching HT setup for whatever one I select. In my other posts, I mentioned my RF-82 HT setup as if I own it already. In reality I haven't decided yet if I want to go with the RF-63 HT setup or the RF-82 HT setup. If I go with the RF-82 HT setup, I can get all the speakers now. If I go with the RF-63 setup, then I can purchase the mains now and the rest over time. I am not sure how much time, though. I have only heard the RF-82's in 2ch mode. I know that the RF-63 setup will cost ~$2000 more in the long run. Has anyone compared the RF-82's and RF-63's in 2ch and HT modes? How do they compare?
  14. I posted questions about the Rotel before, but now I have narrowed it down to three AVRs. They all retail for $1300. The Rotel doesn't have all of the features of the Yamaha and Pioneer, but it is a Rotel. The links are below. Will the Rotel drive my RF-82 HT setup well. My preference is music performance, but I will probably be doing 70% movies and 30% music. Any thoughts? Rotel RSX-1057 Yamaha RX-V1800 Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH BTW: I haven't actually purchased the RF-82 setup yet. I might opt for RF-63 and get the matching HT speakers later. The questions about the AVR are still valid though.
  15. Sorry for the absence, but I went away for a long weekend. I was thinking about cost while I was away. I can get a Pioneer Elite, Yamaha, etc for around $1000 new and a Rotel RSX-1058 for around $2000 new with no problem. I was thinking that I should probably spend around $500-$600 for a used Rotel. While I was away, a Rotel RSX-1055 sold for less than $600 on eBay and two RSX-1056's sold for less than $700. Those prices are close to what I was thinking. My main question is if 75 W per channel going to drive my RF-82 HT set well and loud? I should have asked that originally!
