I've always been fasinated by tubes; but have very little knowlege about them.
Where can I learn about Tube amps (and servicing older tube amps and pre-amps). Also how do I determin what would be a good "project".
I'm a commercial electrician with good soldering skills and tech. skills so hopfuly I can avoid being the "humin resistor".
I just don't know where to begin. So I'll start here with this thread.
Thanx,
Mark

Hey Marshall,
Thanx again.
I,ve owned H II's(back in '92); and thought they were smoother and louder.
Haven't had the privelege of an A/B test as of yet; but in general I think I am over joyed with the H I's.
I think I will get the second pair because the price is excelent (so is the condition of cabinets and drivers).
Only problem now is if I show up with another set of speakers I might get thrown out of MY house.
That's ok; do what she want's to me but leave my Klipsch alone.

I'm just waking up now. Thank you Groomlakearea51. I know some where in the forum we have discussed this before but I was looking for the thread from 11pm 'till 4am and could not find it.
So sound wise do you think it is a difference of detail or ...........?

Can anyone tell me when the transition years of the H-1's were (by transition I mean 1.5's)?
What differences in sound quality(if any) compared to H-1's?
I have a pair of 1978 H-1's and love them. I also have an oppertunity to get another pair but I think they might be 1.5's.
Will there be a notable difference in the sound?

While I was typing here I got my answer there. thanx again.

My life got very busy the other day, so I wasen't able to get back untill now.
I want to thank everyone for all of your valuable input!!!
Keeping with temporarily being on a low budget I'm keeping my cd player(for now because its dependable).
A friend of mine gave me a pre-amp to get me by for a while.
BUT
I'm now wondering if the pre amp output impedence not matching the amp input impedance is an issue?
I have started a new thread in tech. questions.
If any of you all know anything about this please shed a ray of light my way.
Thanx, Mark

O.K> I'm back from dinner- can anyone answer this Question? Thanx MarkHi Guys and Gals,
I have yet another Question.
I have recently recieved a Pre-amp for my sterio. The pre-amp OUTPUT impedence is 600 ohms. My amplifier INPUT impedence is 47K ohms.
My question is: Are these components compatable on this spec, (seems to be a huge difference); or is this a problem waiting to happen?
I have to run and eat dinner but I will be back on in about 1.5 hours. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx Mark

-
thank you again Tom.

sorry, Shawn; I'm not familier with Opps? can you elaborate?
-
thank you sfogg. So is it in my best interest to eliminate pre-amp and just have cd to amp?
-
sorry about the delay (had to clean some mayo off of my mousepad.
from what I've been reading; some people (outside of the Klipsch community) have reported that Haflers tend to be thin of soundstage.
Considering the rickedy setup I currently have I'm thinking a hafler might be an improvement?
What are the advantages? Dissadvantages?
