I could probably say the same thing about the Dragonfly, but I realize I probably sound like I'm tooting their horn. Well, I owe Don as he gifted a receiver to my daughter a few years back. I still believe this is the problem. The DAC doesn't show up for him to select it as the default device. Can you take the DAC and plug it into another computer and see if it recognizes it? I got speakmiester to help me load it while on the phone. Its shows up in devices as C-media USB but I couldn't get that to load on my desktop. I took the other Cabridge dac to my home computer and plugged in and it immediately loaded also as C-Media USB so I am going to say it is loaded in the music system under devices. That is as far as I got then speakmiester had company walk in and had to go so that's where I am at.

Don't be that way eth2 as you have been a lot of help ! I am going to try and get my nephew over here tonight as he is very computer smart and get this dac loaded as a device.

I have sent the serial number to Cambridge Audio to see if mine will support 24bit which I don't think it will but atleast it will put that question to rest.

Go to control panel, sound, playback and see what's checked. Carl, I went back and did some reading on earlier post and did what you said and the Cambridge dac doesn't show up anywhere.

I am already in that much for the system without a dac.

I am not usually a distrusting guy but I don't believe he wanted it to work so I would be forced to buy one of his dacs that he sells. You'll show him! Do get me wrong I bet his dac is a very nice piece of equipment I just cant afford it right now. Not to mention he said it would take 3 to 5 weeks just to get the circuit board and I want to hear this much sooner.

I believe you are right because when I googled 24bit dac yesterday I read a rather lengthy article on that subject and even though I didn't understand it I believe the guy who wrote it,

You have no idea how overwhelming it is ! I have a house full of nice gear that when it comes to technical I know nothing about any of it ,

You have my word on that but my tech has a hard drive full of the music I grew up listening to and I was going to ask him if the format was 16bit.

I know that Gary Dodd's stuff is very high end and I just don't want to lose the quality of the sound !

You might be right but it seems like every time I try to download something like a manual I get more than what I was wanting like some king of virus.

The seller just happened to bring over a cable that he said cost I believe $600 that he would sell me for $150. I did not buy it but it but he left it with me. The one I am using is a very cheap one that my nephew had and said it was used for printers I think. No Have you tried a different USB cable?
