  1. Since purchasing an apple the only issue I have is when I post to hear or E-Bay the enter/return key produces a return when I type in but it gets eliminated after I push the post button. Any Apple owners who know how solve this issue please chime in.

  2. Very well written, there is something to be said for the Quality of posts vs. Quantity.

I think one of the huge holes in the Heritage line is the K-77 tweeter. I have listened to 800s B&Ws in the same room as 60th K-Horns. K-Horns fill the room with bass B&W have highs that sound almost live, while the K-77 tweeter will not even play them at an audible level.

Fastracs, Vtracs, Trachorns are all invited to Build Your Own La Scala II Split Top Spring Training. Fastracs are on Deck/order.

  3. Confirm Wuzzers comments tilt up a little to aim them more at your ears or sit a little lower. In general less toe in on a Forte the better the image. Forte Bass response is extremely sensitive to distance from the rear wall and side wall. Fortes really need to be in a corner, around 1 foot from the rear wall or more. Try moving them 1 - 2 inches at time till you have it. One set up during 15 years of ownership of Forte IIs, I had big entertainment system between the two Fortes which completely cutoff the bass. Getting a more open cabinet made a huge difference.

  4. Out put measured in Db wise the Academy is way below the La Scalas. Doubling the Power to the Academy seems to match the volume. Having the 3 VRDs versus a Pioneer Elite, or Pioneer or McIntosh Mx132 Processor with Adcom amps did not help the timbre mismatch. The VRDs have made the Academy much closer to the La Scalas, so much so when an audiophile comes over I will no longer make excuses for the set up I will just sit back and let them be surprised by how well they match. I might have gotten lucky by having the option to run 60 watts on the center VRD at 60 watts vs 30 for the La Scalas, something with this mode or the different Power Tubes on the Center amp make this combination very good when compared to other setups. Before they were any where from 100 mismatch to 80 percent mismatched now I would say they are only about 40% mismatched, over 100% improvement. This is when you compare them directly switching back and forth. When the mix during an actual movie blends some sound from all three speakers it hard to notice even when the noise of a plane for example sweeps from the Left, then Center over to the right channel, still noticable but much better than before.

In a Heartbeat If I could fit another La Scala in I would do it. When we convert the Porch into a 4 season reading/TV room for my wife, I will relocate the theater where I plan on having 3 La Scalas or 2 K-Horns and 1 La Scala and the Academy will be seen in Garage Sale Forum.

The point I am trying to make is that anticipated the 2 channel improvement/changes when switching to VRDs but not the improvement in the Center Channel.

  5. I have thrown the following to help an Academy match La Scalas. 1) Upgraded Speaker wire. 2) $60 each for RCAs times 3 across the front 3 speakers, big improvement in sound quality but did nothing to help match the speakers. 3) Chris's Network, was a big help 4) Fixed the wiring in the speaker, having 2 woofers is better than 1 woofer. 5) BUT WHAT REALLY SOLVED THE PROBLEM WAS HAVING THREE VRD AMPs DRIVING ALL THREE SPEAKERS. I expected the VRDs to better control of the bass and be more coherent, involving and less forward in the mids than the Mc240 but the biggest surprise is how well an Academy can blend with La Scalas! I had two different brands of amp drive the front three before but never like this. When ever I would roll the different stereo, mono, THX modes (Only real draw back to a MX132 IMHO -- cant just jump to the one you want you have scroll through the ones in between) when i would hit mono it would sound terrible, muddy and the Timbre was way off, I thought most of the change was going from stereo to mono -- Not so the amps just did not like driving an Academy.

  6. Forte II will have just as much quality bass as Cornwalls if placed the correct distance from the back and side walls in a corner. The Cornwalls are more flexible on their location. Mod that I would have done if my wife did not like the looks of La Scalas so much would be to build a Fort Scala. Forte II Bass bin with JBL 2404 or Beyma tweeters and Mid Horn Greg's or one of the other forum members that is only 18 inches or less wide, this width could be placed on top of the Forte with doubler boards on the sides and would be taller than stock but only be a couple inches wider than stock. I have a small/narrow space with two corners that this would fit well. That combination with an ALK network with proper corner placement would run with just about any Klipsch or for that manner any speaker under $30,000 a pair. I have hours listening to all the top McIntosh, KEF, Paradigm and B&W speakers in addition to 5 different K-Horn setups 3 sets of cornwalls, owned Forte IIs for 15 years and have 1 pair of Heresy Is and a pair of Heresy IIs.

  7. I listen in 2 channel for 2 reasons -- 1) If recorded in Stereo or Broadcast in Stereo, TV for example, I leave in stereo dolby etc. that expands into 5 channels does not seam to improve quality but reduce it. 2) My center is not an exact timber match to my Left & Right Channels so if the quality of the recording is low 2 channel sounds better.

  8. There are others here with more knowledge than me. But my 2 cents: I just rewired La Scala and heard improvement with Audioquest CV4 roughly $10 per foot with out terminals. I do not use terminals, the less material changes/joints the better the signal. I have tried Monster Wire and Nomex, Audioquest wins hands down. More detail less sibilance. Replacing the wire to the speaker made more of an improvement than just the internal wiring but changing the internal wiring was measurable. Wire routing away from the magnets and away from the Cross overs magnetic fields also has a big impact.

  9. Thanks, WAF rules, mounted on just a base was great for me not so much for the wife. Tried to minimize it by putting the mounts on the the thickest part of Cheeks, almost flush to the cheeks. Looking at the patterns I do not know if this helps much. Spent the day listening to reference albums and have not noticed much of a difference were we sit. Next version will be wider, and about 1 inch taller, this should reduce but not eliminate response issues.

  10. Have you considered putting them just under the top part of the bass bin mounted with a bracket? A recent customer of mine with LSII's and an Fc260 horn with BMS drivers, reports that he got the best imaging with his Beyma tweeters mounted this way. To test for imaging, he located the tweeters on a stand, at that height right next to the bass bins.

    Greg

Thanks Greg Great Idea! I have a Pair of La Scala bins that are for restoration/ Mods that I will try this out on someday. Right now in need box that does not involve drilling on my mint pair.

  11. We are getting warmer. I will have to read up on the LPad thanks. The one I was saw was "Boxed in on all sides and was not painted it was plywoodish to match the La Scalas. This is a WAF proposal to enable JBL 2404H on top of my La Scalas. . . it was next to one of your posts Marvel with your Beymas, I tried a search under your Name but could not find it.
