  1. I will give it try I stopped around 80hz the bass started to get stronger and boomy. I think I will move the sub to the front wall and try again. Maybe I need a sound pressure meter and test signal to be more precise? Are your scalas in a corner?
  2. Very cool HT. I have home theater envy combined with La Scala envy.
  3. I am just a jr member but here is 2 Cents. 10' wall to wall, room 10' X 16' X 8' I sit about 8' from the speakers Imaging is great sound is good. Image is so good today I thought my academy center channel was some how being powered, I had to get up and put my ear to the speaker to belive it was not powered. This is a temporary installation. In 1 - 2 years they will go to a 14' X 20' room. Heavy vocal tracks sound best, Dave Matthews, Indigo Girls, N. Jones, Tori Amos. I also like Classical and rock. I like it loud and modified ALK x-overs seem to work very, very, well. Horns reproduce vocal & string insruments very well compared to my Forte IIs and the 1 pair of Cornwalls I have heard. I like to feel the bass I have really liked the khorns I have heard but I am falling for the tight bass in my scalas supplemented with a sub especially when listening to 2 channel. Tight bass down to 60 or so and subs that go lower than the K-horns. They do not move air like the K-horns but sound very musical, precise and distortion free. I also have a Velodyne SPL-1500 R sub. Plan is to add 2 Velodyne SPL-1200Rs for 2 channel and keep the 1500 for a LFE during Surround sound. I had Forte IIs for 16 years that went low but the Scala bass is much tighter and only needs help from the sub less than 60 hertz. I have the sub xover set at 55hz which seams to be the best blend. I do not have a meter but through trials I have come up with 55. The cross over meter has been said to be within 3 hz.
  4. BASEMENT STEREO ADVANTAGE: I made a great discovery this morning. Scheduling time for 2 channel has been difficult with the wife and kids. My wife and I both work. We spilt who goes in early and who takes the kids. This morning I got up a little early for a morning when I take the kids and listened to the stereo. When it was time to wake the kids, instead of going up stairs to the second floor, I turned the stereo to as loud as I could listen to it to wake kids up. Dad now has time to listen[], the kids could not hear the stereo! I had to go upstairs and wake them up[<)].
  5. Road Trip - My oldest son, almost 11 years old, did great. Not all road trips have to be like college road trips to be Fun! I now understand why the forum is prefered over CL and the BAY.
  6. Back home in Michigan less than 20 hours later.
  7. 1,539 Miles, 90 gallons of unleaded. 34 hours round trip. 23 hours 6 minutes drive time. And the La Scala's are sounding incredible in there new home, with out incident, the wife was a big help getting them into the basement. Quote from my smiling wife, see picture attached. "Even I can hear the difference!" I listened to pair last week on the local craig's list. No comparision, he was a DJ that clamed he never used them for DJ ing. Original networks & caps, beat up cabinets, a bargin sony amp, my college Cerwin Vegas would give them a run ... They did not seam to have much bass, but with new networks, corner placement, and a better amp the bass is really good. The velodyne sub is needed but not for much! just below 50 - 60 hz or so. The woofer in Forte IIs would go lower but not as musical as the La Scala's. I did not know much about the various networks but apperently the right network makes a big difference!!! These sound great even without my Velodyne SPL 1500 R. Thanks to BS Button for all the help. I will be purchasing a few new CDs and enjoying 2 Channel more often. It is difficlut to schedule the time for this with the kids but is sounds so good I will make the time.
  8. I have the same budget issues and also space issues for a true home theater. I have to decided to use the family room. The Pioneer: I liked the way the older Yamaha recievers sounded with Klipsch but went with Elite VSX-92TXH for video processing and audio calibration abilities in my odd shaped room. Standard Definition up converted (processed) through the ELITE, with U-verse is very good. Movies come close enough to 720P high def channels to watch with out getting too disapointed it is not in High Def. With Dishnet standard def and the upconversion from the Samsung I was getting to the point of hardly watching Standard Def but with U-verse and the Pioneer I watch Standard Def much more often. (I still check to see what is on High Def first) The audio calibration was also very good. Before running the calibration I set the speakers up traditional/manually for the most optimum sound (lots of trail and error) - Moved the Forte II's in varing spots relative to the corners/walls until they sounded good, center chanel 1 inch behind the plane of the Forte II's and Rear Surround 2 feet above ear height and angled down slightly. Then I ran the calibration program and was really immpressed. The Pioneer sounds better than my Adcom seperates in almost every aspect. Movies, Classical, Blues, night time listening, etc. The only exception is playing Rock & Roll, read Metallica, loud which sounds slightly better on the Adcom seperates. There is not much differance but with family movies, fewer loud parties the norm now this is hardly an issue. Also I did not have to buy any adaptors to use my i pod with the Pioneer. Plasma's Screen size and viewing distance and wether or not you going to purchase a Blue Ray Player should drive the 720 vs 1080 discussion. If you are relatively far away 12+ feet from a 50" the 1080 will not make much of difference, move in to 8' feet and you should see a difference. But if you are never going to buy a Blue Ray Player save some money and go with the 720P, for the next few years 720 is all that will be avialible on U-verse Sat, and Cable. I went with a LCD because of window glare issues in the Family Room with Plasmas. I recently saw a new Pioneer 110 and was so impressed compared to what was available in my price range a few years ago I may add some curtains and redirect some lighting and go Pioneer Plasma.
  9. Excuse me for not knowing all the Audifile lingo, by being like a Forte' would they be a could match aucustically with the Heritage line? (I have all Heratige up front but a shallow space in the back of room.)
  10. I think I just answered my own question the Dual passive radiators are on the Front not the Rear like Forte I & IIs. So they are not as sensitive to corner placement as a Forte?
  11. Sounds very interesting, a modern Forte. Is placement in a cornerns similiar to Forte's due to the Passive Diaphrams?
  12. Thanks, I am the orginal onwer of Forte II's but new to using forums and recently in position to use and upgade my system. There forum has been a big help.
  13. Thanks. I saw other pictures that did not show it nearly as good. Could I seal the back with Plywood and accomplish the same thing or is that good theory but bad idea?
  14. I have stucco walls, if I get khorns and but them up against the stucco will this be a tight enough seal to the wall? What about having them on a tile floor?
  15. Looking like I just had AT&T Uverse installed last weekend for all the right reasons.
  16. That is an interesting idea. I have always thought using the opposite end of the basement 12+' wide with 2 nice corners but a window in the middle of the 12 foot wall. The window is short and up high I could come up with something but the wife likes the effect of a taller window look with some framing and shade we installed. Using the opposite end we could get 16' but 1) There is 6 inch build out, hides plumbing drain, in the one corner I would have to modify 2) My wife would have to approve of having the bathroom door right next to the Big Screen TV 3) My wife would have give up that mini wall that is the prime art location for a sculpture and other items (not very likely) and 4) Forte IIs as Rear Surrounds would end up in the middle of the living space. Good suggestion but a Lack of planning on my part, I should have foreseen Khorns and put the bathroom at the other end of the Basement before we tiled the floor. I will give it my best selling effort but Tech requirements are running into marriage requirements. I
  17. I made an enclosure around the supporting poles in the basement. See drawing below.
  18. No chance. I have what could be described two connected false corners, a U- Shaped area 4.5' deep by 10' wide that opens up to a larger area.
  19. I have two very good corners but a very narrow space. Are there any recommendations for a min distance between Klipschorns? Does distance away factor in? (Seating is about 10 Feet)
  20. Thanks. The other half approves, I will start looking for a pair. The new Klipsh RS-52s just do not seem right.
  21. I have Forte II Front Left and Right, Academy center channel and small room that does not have room for anything but shallow, less than 10 inches deep, surround speakers. Any suggestions?
