  1. Didn't buy it yet. I believe it lists for $850, and I'd have to order it from one of the few available east coast dealers. It's a no frills amp, and that's why I assume it's not priced a lot higher. No remote, etc. NOT made in China!
  2. I placed my order for Heresy IIIs! Whoo hoo! I have an old, but very reliable Onkyo stereo receiver right now, but I want to take the plunge with tubes. I am going with the Almarro A205 II. 5 watt EL84 integrated. Extremely well received by the audiophile press, and a good match for the Heresies. The Almarro also seems to be a good choice for tube newbies, and it's priced right. I think I will be very happy with this combo. Anyone out there have this amp?
  3. Wow, I plan on doing the same thing - WAV or Apple Lossless iTunes collection to the iPod. IPod to the Wadia. Wadia to an economy Musical Fidelity DAC. DAC to the amp (TBD). Amp to a pair of Heresy IIIs (!). An iPod for each genre! Very cool.
  4. MP3s are for the masses. If you save your CDs as WAV files, it's a whole different story.
  5. Without the sub, how would the H3s do? They only go down to 58. What intrigues me is the fact that there are tons of devoted Heresy fans everywhere, so this speaker must do most things right. Too bad my local dealer only carries the Reference and the cheapo lines. No Heritage! I know amp matching makes a difference. I was looking at the new Onkyo integrated, the Outlaw receiver, and the NAD offerings. Are there any sanely priced SS amps that would give the H3s a little more oomph, or slam?
  6. I had a pair of kg 2.2s. Very good speakers. For $67, you can't go wrong.
  7. It's either Heresy IIIs or RF63s for the speakers. Most of the stuff I listen to is either hard rock or metal, from Cream and Deep Purple to Metallica and Opeth, with some punk thrown in, too. I am looking at mostly mid fi stuff like NAD or Onkyo. I will also be using a Technics SL 1200 TT. Tubes aren't on the list right now. The room size is "medium," more or less. I had a pair of kg 2.2s that lasted a long time and did heavier music very well. Any metal heads out there that can tell me which speaker is better suited for loud, heavy music? Thanks, Mike in PA
  8. Lots of info and reviews on the Technics SL1200 on the net. Seems like a good choice for a newcomer to vinyl.
  9. So a lower priced, brand new Thorens is superior to the Technics? How expensive is a decent Thorens TT? I like the idea of direct drive over a belt because it seems more inexperienced user friendly.
  10. I would like to get into vinyl. Looking at the Denon DP500M and the Technics SL1200s. Looking for something easy to use. Is the Denon is good TT to get acquainted with vinyl? Suggestions? I have up to a grand for my budget.
  11. I cannot find any reviews on the Wright WIA 1515 online. Anyone have one or can find a review for one? Also, what CD players are made in the USA? Thanks, Mike
  12. I see the Wright amp uses EL34 tubes. I was under the impression the K88s would provide more bottom end for the H3s. Any American made integrateds out there that are self-biasing and use KT88s?
  13. Hmm, I will have to do a little research on the Baldwin. Where is it manufactured? What kind of tubes?
  14. McIntosh? The new integrated McIntosh costs A LOT of money! I don't have the room for a separate preamp and poweramp(s). My anticipated system will be the following: -H3s -TBD tube integrated -Jolida or Eastern Electric tube CD player -JM Tercel phono pre -KAB modified Technics SL1200 TT
  15. I am days away from ordering H3s! Now I need a better amp. I have an Onkyo receiver, but I want to upgrade to tubes. I have a small listening room, and the speakers will be in the corners. I listen mostly to hard rock, metal, progressive rock. No super bass heavy music. Which of these amps will have the best system synergy with the Heresy IIIs? -Wright Sound 1515 (?) -Rogue Cronus -Almarro A205A -Prima Luna Prologue II I don't know how to bias an amp, which makes the Wright and Prima Luna both viable, as they are both self-biasing. However, sound quality will be the overall factor in my decision. Not looking to buy used. Thanks!
