  1. Well then, I guess the question wasn't directed to you then. LOL []
  2. I got a second pair of Forte1's recently and they have not been touched as far as updates/grades. I have them hooked up along with my first pair that I did do the caps to and powered by the exact same amp (pair of TFM-35's). I just finally sat down long enough to compare and let me tell you there is a HUGE difference!! Not just in little details, but in the overall sound produced. The pair I just got (I hate to say) are "dead" for a lack of a better word. Not the speakers fault, just that the caps are crap. LOL Funny thing is, these are the speakers I heard on tubes before I bought them....oofda never would have guessed! One more "plus" for the tubes (as if they needed one).[] Needless to say, I will be giving Bob some business soon!
  3. Dark side it is! [6] I still can't believe the sound they made! I knew it would be good but....... Solid state is nice but the tubes are just so much more. A whole differnet experience altogether. So much more "open". I really can't put it into words.
  4. I picked up a second pair of Forte's today from CW_82 (great guy by the way). I drove 700 miles round trip and it was VERY well worth it. Jim is a super nice guy and we listened and talked for atleast 2 hrs. I told him I would call when I got close to let him know my E.T.A. and he asked me the words I was some what dreading to hear "do you want me to hook them up to have a listen?" Well of course I said yes, I knew he had tubes! But also knew I didn't NEED to listen to them knowing I would want to upgrade to tubes. I have 2 Carver TFM -35's and a CT-3, which I was content with. I also had in the plans to possibly get an Emotiva MMC-1 processor and EPA-5 amp. After listening to his set up......ehhhh I'm rethinking my plans. He has an Eastern Electric 8 watt Minimax amp and a Minimax preamp that blew my sox off, I cannot believe what I heard out of these! I know there has been great debates about tubes and S.S. here and don't mean to cause a ruckus, but WOW I'm sold on tubes. He told me he got them from Morningstar Audio Imports and gave me the business card. The above subject line is from what is printed on the card and that says it all for me. Like I said I have read a lot of "discussions" on here about the S.S and tubes and hearing IS all I needed to tell me the deference. To top it all off he also had a pair of Eastern Electric mono block 160 w. from Morningstar that he hooked up to his Corns and that was completely uncalled for! LOL I had a great day today, got another set of Fortes, heard my first tubes and met a fellow forum member.[Y] Now for those tubes.[]
  5. Very nice! Thank You [Y]
  6. I burned this to a cd. It will rattle EVERYTHING!!! LOL http://youtube.com/watch?v=-yO0bPszE_g
  7. Don't let the cap upgrade scare ya. I was skeptical at first and have done a lot of soldering work before. It was just that I love these fortes so much I didn't want to mess them up. Once you get going, its really not that bad. Now.... if you want to move the whole network off the cup, then that would be a whole different ball game! I was going to move mine off, and decided to leave them on, atleast for now. Everything looked good, so I just went with the new caps. I have read at another site about the tweeters and Bob's titanium upgrade. I'll see if I can find it............
  8. You better put some ears plugs under those bunny ears because those fortes are gonna crank! I have about the same size house and have them I my basement with carver TFM-35's hooked up. I turned them up to about 30-35 watts and the speakers where very very loud. I went upstairs and the floors where vibrating like mad. I can't remember where I seen the link on here, but you can figuire your db, I did mine, it come out somewhere around a jet taking off![] []
  9. I got mine a couple weeks ago. WOW!! They are amazing and get VERY loud. Just ordered the cap upgrade for them from www.critesspeakers.com. Can't wait to hear the difference and from what I've read here it will make a big improvment. Hard to believe they can get better.
  10. I just picked up some Fortes (87's) this weekend on advice/reading of this forum. They ARE awesome ! Gonna do the cap upgrade soon, hard to believe they will get better than they sound right now.
  11. I have been looking for new speakers and started reading here. I set out on my quest to find some Fortes and what do ya know! Last night I looked on Craigs list and there was a pair about 30 minutes from me. There wasn't any pictures which kind of worried me because he is in a college town thinking they would be beer stained and trashed. When I showed up at the guys location, it was a home theater store, I wasn't sure what to expect. As It turns out these things are like BRAND NEW!! There is one tiny dent on top of one and the only other thing I can find is one of the S/N tags is slightly torn where it is stapled to the back. (s/n 8774582 ,8774583) I have to admit after all the great reviews here I wasn't all that impressed when listening at their current location. It had hard wood floors, high ceiling just not an ideal area for listening(odd but true). They sounded lifeless. I asked him what his best deal was on them but he was sticking, I think if I pushed I could have got a few $$ off but I wasn't going to risk it. I debated for about 3 1/2 seconds and recalled all that was said here and pulled out $500.00. When I got them home and got them hooked up, again....flat. THEN, I started working the volume up, and [] Little by little they came to life and they just wouldn't stop, I think I'll keep them. Next move is the cap upgrade and I'm good to go...well.......[] I have this forum to thank for the great posts and comments...even if some of you don't like s/s.[] LOL
