  1. n my case, far as I know, my receiver puts out 110Wpc through 4 separate internal amps. Sure, they're all driven by the same power supply, but I'm thinking that does *not* equate to a situation where I could expect 770W (110Wpc x 7 channels) if I only use it to play my fronts in a stereo configuration. (Am I possibly wrong on this?)

My avr is rated 140 watts per channel with separate internal amps. My Power console never shows greater than 450 watts being used in total with peaks. I have 3 amp, cable box, BD, avr and TV hooked up to the power console. The Point is the 770w power rating senario will never happen. Most likely, you will never need it. If most of us could use the total watts that our gear is rated at, we might produce an EMF that could make our hair stand up straight, lol.Confused

  2. I wish. This rooms to shallow. if i slide the couch a foot it slides the chair a foot into the hallway.and I can't turn the room long ways becuase everything in the av rack runs through the wall into the theater room and again have to deal with the hallway. Not an ideal room at all.

Well then, you'll have to do what most of us do.... Enjoy it as it is! [<:o)]

  3. Amazing, this thing actually has a nice bottom end, isn't overly bright at all. I'd say perfectly balanced. Now I just have to figure out some room acoustics. The sweet spot for the bass is just forward of my couch, lower you go the better. Couch is of course against a wall so I'm sure that's sme of the issue but rooms not deep enough to slide it forward. Leaning forward to get Into the sweet spot just isn't cutting it. La scalas at 8 feet apart and 10 feet forward of the listening position. Slightly toed in.

    Sweet! [<:o)]

I have my La Scalas "toed" in a little more, they are almost facing my listening position. Yeah, a couch against the wall is never a good thing. Can you move it out a foot or so, just to give it a try?

  4. To my ears... the Forte ll's have much more detail. The Scala's will provide more volume, but there is

a trade off. The Forte ll's are very clean and detail oriented speakers. I am not a big fan of the La Scalas.

I had a pair a while back and sold them because they didn't have enough detail for me. Folded horns give nice

rounded bass tones for blues and vintage jazz. If you want tight punchy bass, stick with the Forte ll's.

It sounds like you had "original" La Scalas and crossovers. That was my experience also.

Then I updated/replaced the crossovers and WOW, the detail was there, along with some of the most amazing Bass I've ever heard.

    ......[<:o)]

The La Scala is an amazing speaker and typically, the networks need to be updated to hear it.

  5. Yeah, they usually go pretty quick and that seemed like a fair price. I didn't expect them to last long.

There will be more. Thanks for the update,

One thing I've learned when it come to looking for specific speakers, paitence does pay off in the long run.

25th ID huh? I was over on K-bay with 3rd FSSG ages ago.

    ...and a fast truck!!! [;)]

Yeah, 25th ID(Light)! 2/11 FA many years ago, too!

  6. Oh Man! Go get those!!

I found my 1979 La Scalas on Sac Craigslist for $1100 from the original owner. I replaced the crossovers for $300 and have never ever, thought about getting better speakers.

Sure 10 x 10 is a little small, but if you can get them in, you won't be sorry. And look at it this way, a 10 wpc amp with Rock those speakers! [;)]

    Keep us posted,

  7. What signs are we to look for to determine whether the veneered Khorn bins need an oilin'?

    Thanks!

Well, like anything else, when you check the Dipstick and it's in the "Add" range, it's time to oil! [;)]

Okay, Sorry but I couldn't resist (obviously)!! [:$]

When you see the wood drying out or loosing it's luster, I would oil soon to prevent any cracking, splitting or the like.

  8. Thanks Dtel, I was getting worried! [^o)]

Your money would be much better spent on room treatments, instead of speaker cables.

I use 12 gauge speaker wire, also because it lays flat and neat. The internal wires are what Klipsch installed, I figured it I needed bigger wires, they would have put them in!

    Good luck,

  9. Hey Jeff, no stupid questions around here, just stupid people who don't ask questions! [;)]

A Receiver is a Pre-amp/Processor and Amplifier in one unit.

If you know what an amplifier is, well a "preamp" does everything else. Some are very simple and others have many, many features.

Preamps have volume controls, bass and treble controls, balance control, input selection and so on. They need an amp to produce sound.

An integrated amp is a preamp and amp all in one, also. A processor and amp are integrated into one unit.

    I hope this helps,

  10. I picked up a pair of decent looking Cornwalls CRB, circa 1983, local 2 weeks ago. They were not in bad shape but the stain job looked bad. I followed the thread:

Cornwall Saga- Rescuing Orphans and picked up some great tips on refinishing these. I did not veneer them because the wood was in pretty good shape. I did sand them out and followed the steps laid out by Groomlakearea51 and others. I stained them to a darker color than they were originally done to match the room. (speaking of which.....I can't believe my wife went for these in the living room)

I am putting the speakers back together tomorrow. I upgraded the crossovers and tweeter diaphrams to Bob Crites. I am very excited to see how they sound. I have had RF-7's for about 7 years. (They are now for sale by the way..........black, good condition, Western NY PU only $750.00) I was never able to get the vintage sound I was looking for out of those speakers.

I will be driving them with a Primaluna DiaLogue II integrated tube amp, Jolida 100A CD player, and a Thorens TD145MKII turntable. Have lots of tubes to roll and I and looking forward to a long happy relaltionship with these speaker. Can't wait to hear the bass thumping!

I will post pics later. I picked up a lot of usful info on the site.

    Thanks, Tom

    Looks great Tom!!!! [<:o)]

  11. Hi Dennie,

Where did you get those spades? What brand are they? Any idea how much they are? I would need at least 18 and I'm in Canada... Don't know if all makers are available or ship here.

    Thank you,

Hey Arie, I would just check with your local "parts house". Anyone that carries Banana plugs, will probably carry Spades also. Since we're in two different countries, it dosen't make sense to recommend a supplier. These can usually be found at your local hardware store.

    Dennie

  12. I think if I can't get those to work, I will go with a spade connector instead of a banana.

Why don't you go with bare wire?

    Hi wuzzer,

The reason is because I have 12 AWG cables and I noticed that a
lot of the strands come out of the connector on both sides, the speaker’s and
the receiver’s. So I thought maybe grouping them together and using a banana or
a spade would be a better aesthetic solution.

...and safer!!! If one of those "strands" shorts out, you'll be sorry!!!

    Good thinking. [<:o)]

I too use spade ends now on my La Scalas, works great! [Y]
