  1. I am a little confused about the power specifications for the Yamaha V1800, it shows in the online manual that it consumes 500 watts of power but can use up to a maxiumum of 1100 watts. Which number should I be looking at to GENERALLY estimate the units capability of producing power to the speakers so that I can better compare it to a Denon or Onkyo option.
  2. I have become partial to Denon since it has been the first receiver I have bought that I actually set up a whole home theater with and have become used to. I was a little disapointed with the user interface and the horrible user manual. But now that I know how to work it I am very happy with it. The Denon AVR-989 / AVR2809CI has a little bit more power, and from what I understand it has preamp outputs as well. So I believe I would be upgrading with the possibility of using a seperate amplifier in the future. Any input on this receiver? http://www.dakmart.com/product_info.php?products_id=11043

  4. I forgot to mention that if the Denon 2308 had preouts for a seperate amp I would just keep it, I love the receiver but need a little bit more head room for the volume level that I like to watch movies at.
  5. I am looking to upgrade from my Denon 2308CI, I am looking for a receiver that has HDMI switching, I only need 3 HDMI inputs, has the audysey microphone set up, Has more power than the Denon 2308, and has preamp outputs so that I can always add more juice to the set up. I will be selling my Denon and hopefully get about 400-500 dollars for it. I would LOVE to not have to put much more money out of pocket for a kick butt receiver with the above qualifications, but I am open to any idea in the under $600 range.
  6. I will look for that paper, of course niether of those locations are available for either subwoofer, but I will read that paper you suggested and see what else I can figure out. Thanks!
  7. OK, so from what I am reading... I should possibly try the other spot across the room with the other SUB-12 and see if it flattens the bass tones. And then see if switching the phase of one of the woofers makes it louder. It shouldn't make a difference which sub I switch the phase of should it? Of course this is assuming that switching the phase would increase gain.
  8. I am wondering if it is more likely to get odd cancellation issues with a two subwoofer set up if the subs are set far apart. Am I better off placing the subs close to each other? I am pondering placing two Klipsch SUB-12 subs right next to each other, if that is not recommended then I only have one other place to put the second SUB-12 which is about 14 feet away. I am exploring these options before I purchase the second SUB-12. Thanks for any input!
  9. The only good spot in the room is right next to the other sub 12, so I though I could make it look more clean by combining the two into one box.
  10. So I have a SUB-12, it does OK in my large living room area, I believe that it would be best to have two of them. I am thinking about having a local friend of mine build me a dual sub box, seperate air space per subwoofer/amplifier. I am thinking of just having both downfiring, ports on the long side and not on each end. All I will have to pick up is another woofer, amplifier and port and I will be good to go. Any recommendations or things I need to take into account?I think that this will pound!
  11. So my Denon receiver doesn't have preamp outputs, and I would really like a little more umph out of my main speakers. If money was no problem I would just go ahead and by a new receiver with preamps and then buy a 2 channel amplifier and go at it that way. The other option that I want to ask you guys about is simply adding an amplifier at each speaker that takes high level input. Is this just a stupid idea? What amplifier is the best choice for this? I was just thinking of mounting an amplifier to the side of each of my RF3 speakers. I have a power outlet right next to each main, so power is not an issue at all. Then in theory since I wouldn't be using much power from the receiver to power the mains, would I then be getting more power out of my surrounds and center channel that would still be utilizing power from the receiver? You can tell I am pretty new to home theater, still trying to understand the dos and dont's while still knowing the why.
  12. Definitely sounds better than without the sub, but I have read about people reducing the amount of bass going to their mains which can boost the available power to the rest of their speakers?
  13. So I have my subwoofer set to LFE+main and Audyssey had set up my main speakers High Pass filter to 60 Hertz. Should I raise that crossover frequency? What would you recommend for my set up?
  14. Some of the pros can correct me if I'm wrong, but magnet technology has made the magnets much more light weight in most of todays woofers, so weight can definitely be a factor that shouldn't be taken into consideration.
  15. I am very impressed with the power of this woofer, it is just as "musical" as everyone claims. It has the available headroom that I need with my large air space. It had me giggling like a little school girl when listening to some of my favorite Korn and Sevendust songs, then had me speechless during Transformers and Saving Private Ryan. I know it sounds like I am saying that it is the best sub ever, well it is the best sub under $200 []
  16. So I decided to go for it and buy the components of a Sub 12 online and piece it together. The hardest part was to find a Sub 12 cabinet, after a little searching on ebay I found one and got it for about $55 shipped. I then found a used Sub 12 amp for about $70 shipped and then found a new Sub 12 woofer for about $65 shipped. All items found on ebay. The only compromise that was made was that the sub cabinet was a little dinged up, but a black sharpie works wonders and you can barely tell at all from any distance. This sub sounds much better than my Sub 10, deeper bass, and definitely more volume. I am very happy!
  17. Well I just found out through Klipsch support that I had read wrong, that the sub is single voice coil, so I guess the wiring of the sub is a non issue. I can't wait for the parts to come in, piecing this sub together is costing me less than $175, so I am saving a ton of money and only sacrificing a little on the asthetic side, the box is a little knicked up, but I don't mind.
  18. I will probably just take your word on the bass shaking. I have a sub 10 currently hooked up that I am pushing 3/4 gain on (as far as I would comfortably go to make sure I don't damage the woofer) I have a VERY large air space, the main level of my house is one of those "open" floor plans and also sharres space with my master stairway... it is a lot of air space to pressurize, but I suppose that the sub 12 has a much more powerful amplifier, and it is the budget sub that is raved about throughout this site and others. I will test things out before I get rid of my sub 10, but most likely I will just keep things simple and go with the single sub 12.
  19. Sorry if I wasn't clear, I am asking if their is a woofer that I can put in the sub 12 enclosure that would be better than an oem sub 12 woofer.
  20. That's what I am asking- do I wire the dual voice coils in series or parallel? Also, is their a better/more efficient woofer out there for around the same price that would work better in the sub 12 enclosure for around the same money (under $100)
  21. I am upgrading my system from a sub 10 to sub 12, would it be worth it at all to couple the two together on my system? Or should I just sell the sub 10 and stick with the simplicity of one sub 12?
  22. I have the box, and will be ordering up an amp and woofer, I read that the woofer is a dual voice coil, Do I wire the woofer up in series or parallel to the amplifier?
  23. any pics of your subwoofer build? Does anyone have info of a sealed box builed they have done?

    Sub-12

So where is the best place to get one of these subs now that we can't get them for the smoking deal posted earlier. I have sub envy and want to upgrade from my sub 10
