  1. Here is my dilemma; I have Forte's and Heresy's powered by a Sansui AU D9. Recently I re-built both crossover networks using high end components. The Heresy XO capacitors have been upgraded with Mundorf SIO and the Forte with Mundorf Supreme, Sledgehammer Inductor, Dayton Wire Wound Resistor. While playing these side by side, the Forte sounds extremely closed in and muffled, while the Heresy sounds open and clear. The Forte's have a sensitivity of 98dB while the Heresy's have a sensitivity of 96dB, so if anything, the Forte's should sound louder which is not the case. The Forte capacitors only have about 25 hours on them but I find it hard to believe that after 100 hours or so they will magically open up. At this point I am questioning whether the tweeter and midrange horn magnets could be weak (all 4 unlikely), maybe the spring clip terminals are effecting the sound, or I have wired something wrong (checked it twice), or possibly the audioformer is going bad. I have provided a diagram of my XO layout. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Mike Forte XO.pdf

  3. I have seen many threads about removing the crossover from the square terminal cup and monting it to a board. My question is in regards to where is the best location inside of the cabinet. My thoughts were to mount it on the inside base of the cabinet making acessible from the front. I noticed that there is not much room on the inside base at the rear of the cabinet due to a baffle board or support brace. Thanks! Mike
  4. Help! I recently purchasing a mint pair of 1980 Heresy 1's, and have decided to replace the 2uf caps. I have seen numerous opinions on what is the proper capacitor to use when re-capping the type-E crossover. I have seen many conflicting recommendations between the wide range of selections; use of Solens to the more expensive PIO's. Many have also cautioned on selecting a capacitor that will not add to the already forward and detailed sound of the Heresy. I am considering either the Mundorf Supreme or Silver/Oil due to its claimed smoother sound. Has anyone selected the Mundorf for this application? Thanks! Mike
