  1. As you said, I've got everything working (beautifully) now. On the other hand, I would be happe to look into the bag you sent. If I only knew how to try and track it down. I need some parcel number from UPC or it is just enough to ask about parcel addressed to me? (The trouble is that Polish Customs is not a user friendly institution and still works the same as 20 years ago. A very communist type of place).
  2. Groomlakearea51, I sent you an e-mail a copuple of weeks ago that I didn't receive anything.
  3. That's how they are standing now. Later on I'm going to experiment with raising the fronts or even the whole speakers, as they came without the raisers..
  4. Gentlemen, I finally got them! I took hmm.... a while, but I do have them at last! And they do sound great. I mean, they didn't at the beginning. Actually, out of the box they sounded just horrible. No dynamics, everything dominated by bass. Just no life, no music and definitely no fun. I was devastated and couldn't belivemy ears. But then I rearranged the room, set them apart over 3 feet more and moved from the walls. Plus they were allowed to play for some time (which might have also largely contributed to the improvement, as the drivers had been idle for at least 3 months). And now the sound is great. I am not going to describe what most of you know just very well. Clarity, dynamics, scale of sound makes the music just jump out of the speakers without any effort. I simply enjoy music played by real-life instruments. Wonderful! And did I mention they are big? But still, they sound so beautiful that my wife somehow accepted them. A big relief...
  5. blsamuel, you are very right about this one - a lot of people do not really listen to music it may sound cruel, even insulting, but this is my obsevation too even if they do sit down and put other things away, they are rather looking for things they are familiar with (some tune, musical phrase or sounds they heard before and want to hear again) therefore, it is so difficult for them to admit new things - new music, new musical arrangement, and finally new sound - because new is not old, and therefore unwelcome but hey! let's not be so unforgiving! this is true with almost everebody, even with musicians themselves. because, after all, how many Mileses Davises have there been around in the history of music?
  6. Stephen, Thanks, but.... cut it off. I'm too bashful [:$] As to the CW - I just can't wait and keep worrying: "Oh, my little babies out there, alone amidst boundless and merciless ocean! Hope they make it home before Christmas, poor things." By the way, some people believe Cornwalls are a clear step up as compared to Heresies, then others claim they are simply Heresies with bigger and clearer bass. What is youur opinion?
  7. Hi guys, Thanks for your advice. I will see Groomlake51's stuff and that I have ordered from eBay. If it doesn't work (which I don't expect) I will keep exploring further on. At the beginning I'm going to use my old British Musical Fidelity A1. It's got some 25W in class A, which I don't dare to turn up over half of its power with 87 dB Celestions in my 15x15 feet room. So I guess 99 dB Cornwalls will be more than satisfied as long as power is concerned. If it's possible I would like to avoid changing the terminals. Why? Well... I'm not quite sure. But I reckon if they have been good enough for 25 years now (and the loudspeakers appear to have been taken care of real well), why should I treat them with a boring machine without giving a chance? . But if they don't behave, I will change the posts to more convenient ones . Anyway, thanks for your consideration and I will let you know how everything works. But I expect them to arrive no sooner than in 3 weeks, or even just before Christmas.
  8. Well, would love to, but might not be easy. In general, Polish vodka ain't the same as it used to be some 20 years ago. Strange but true. But still, I will get something decent And I don't think there should be any restrictions any more as Poland has been in NATO for some ten years now! Actually, you could come and assist with this missile shield project, unless Obama vetos it Anyway, I will be ready!
  9. I absolutely agree with Islander. I think this in-your-face opinion is usually expressed by the people from whom you can also hear that: "How can you relax and read anything when at the same time playing music from such speakers?" or "I prefer more cultured/civilized presentation" (I'm translating from Polish, but I bet you can hear similar comments all over the world). And I think it's OK if that is what they prefer. One cannot only try to obtain a live and natural sound from their system while at the same time striving to preserve this "civilized"quality. Because these two do not agree. Live music is not laid back. You can hardly read anything with some else playing the violin or the piano in the same room. The sound of live instrument is too much ... in your face . You should not forget that this in-your-face quality is not really specific to horns. There are other types of speakers that evoke similar comments, but perhaps they are not so popular (especially in the U.S.). Take some full-range speakers like Lowther or Rehdeko. You can hear the same opinions. What all these speakers have in common is their unusually high dynamics (100dB or more) and speed (sensitivity perhaps), and in general more true to live presentation. P.S. Such speakers are obviously more revealing for the electronics too. Therefere they can sometimes sound terrible if hooked up to a poor amplifier/CD-player. Because they do not "smooth out" things and do not make them bearable. You know: shit in, shit out
  10. GotHover , Thanks, I will remember that. Hope bananas do no slip out of the terminals in this position. Anyway, looks like got everything arranged plus a little more. All I have to do now is sit down and wait for all the puzzles to arrive Thank you all guys (Groomlakearea51, I'm waiting for the opportunity to pay you back)
  11. > Maciej, Got it; today's a National Holiday (Veteran's Day), so they will leave tomorrow enroute to Warszawa. bless ya' (In Poland we got the Independence Day today - in 1918 Poland became independent again ofter 123 years under Russia, Prussia and Austria-Hungary rule)
  12. Groomlakearea51, thanks a million. sent you a message
  13. I bought these - look like those James got and they have adapters for bananas size seems ok and if I'm wrong they are not expensive http://cgi.ebay.pl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170274581055&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSA:PL:31
