  1. The speakers are back! Here a small teaser before I finish them []
  2. thx! Will keep you up to date and post some more pics when they are finished. The picture show them during my first testing with my current Pioneer AVR. Comming from an RF-82 I'm so far really impressed from the mids and the hard and fast low-end but found the tweeter a bit to harsh (maybe due to the bad test room conditions). I will keep you informed [] Robert
  3. Hey Guys, attached you find a first picture of my assembled Cornscala speakers. I'm using CT125, K401/Atlas, Crites Woofer, Crites X-Over. The idea was to build the speaker as slim as possible and a little higher than a La Scala. Final measurements are: 43.5" x 20.5" x 23.5" (hwd) At this moment the speakers are getting their paint job...so please find more pics to come. Robert
  4. Hi Brian, I got the port dimensions from the cornwall III port and Bob Crites. Robert
  5. Hi Brian, this is my construction for a "slimmer" CornScala. Dimensions are 20.5" W x 43.3" H x 23.6" D. I'm using K-401 Horns with Atlas drivers. I will post more pictures when they are completed. Robert
  6. Hey Trey, thank you for the info! Thats really great. So the screws are wood screws and go in the cabinet? I own a complete RF series 5.1 set and now building a DIY cornscala. I really like the Ultra 2 design so my plan is to use the same design. This way I can also use the Ultra 2 Sub and Surrounds for 5.1 I was just wondering if there is a gasket an what type of screw you are using. So thank you for this information! Pictures would be great ;-)
  7. Hi, does someone have some pictures of the THX Ultra 2 with an faceplate detached? I would like to see how the screws are in the cabinet and if there is something under the plate for maybe damping. Thanks!
  8. Yes, I know what you said. I saw several CW3 and LaScalas on this Forum using the different Kappa woofers, that's why I thought it should not be a big problem. You already told me that there would be maybe an change on the crossover, I just thougt someone of those users I saw maybe know what to change. Can't be that big thing. I mean...the K-33 and the Crites woofer are both from Eminence afaik. When you all think it will not work, then I have to handle the high shipping costs to Europe. I just want to be sure that I have to.
  9. Sorry but I got those advices from here! Some are using Kappa C, some the Pro series. They all say there is no big difference. So you say it is a huge difference? Because an 13.5 inch engine for a car really sucks.
  10. Ok. So i need an adjusted crossover. When I buy the crites crossover I would get 2.5mH, right? So where can I buy a 2.2mH crossover?
  11. I don't get it. It sees that it makes no difference. Is this right? BTW: Bobs PH-800 horn is better known as "McGee HL-616". Just saw this one. Pair goes for 25$!
  12. I guess I'll go for the Kappa Pro 15A. This woofer looks really good on the sheet as I would expect from a PRO series [] Is the original woofer 8Ohm or 4Ohm? Can I use 4 and 8Ohm with the same crossover?
  13. Kappa Pro-15A or LF-2 ? Have you used the Kappa 15C? How would you describe the lower end? I also heard of someone built a LaScala with an Kappa 15A. I'm wondering if the difference would be big. Another question: Do you know other midrange horns that would fit?
  14. Hi, could someone please tell me which Eminence woofer I could use? I'm located in Europe so importing Bob's woofer would actually include high shipping costs. Someone here stated the "Kappa-15C" woofer would be the equivalent one. Can someone confirm this?
  15. Refering to Klipsch, both, the RF-82 and the RF-63 uses a "90x60 square Tractrix® Horn" Isn't that true?
  16. That is not true. The horn driver is mounted on the horn lense.
  17. Yes. I'm certain that the drivers for the RF-62, RF-82 and RC-62 are the same. They all got the same part nr. Sure the crossovers are different. But thats only a result of the bass drivers that are used. I totally agree that the RF-63 got another crossover freq. that the RF-82. But the point is that there are no things like filters in the klipsch network. I totally agree that Klipsch put much afford in the speakers to design them. Firt of all the bass reflex design, the shape and of course the design if the components. the bass drivers and the tweeters. But when you take a closer look, then you will realise that for example the network is no "magical" part as you may describe it. its just a crossover network with some resistors. When you now realise that the horn driver of the above mentioned speakers are equal, then you realise that the choosen crossover depends on the bass drivers and the case volume. I would not say that i'm smarter that the Klipsch engineers. But I'm smart enough to understand how a speaker really works when I look inside and use my multimeter. One of you guys above postet some informations from the "Cornscala" and when i look at bob's page i see hundrets of parts for the hersey series. So why you don't believe it's also possible with the reference line? f.e.: a klipsch retailer in germany modded a RC-5 horndriver into a RC-7 speaker to meet the needs of the customer, owning a pair of RF-5 speakers. The result was a perfect matching center channel.
  18. Thats not interesting. Sure I loose the warranty...that's no surprise. And yes. I also could by a pair of RF-63. BUT: A pair of RF-82 is around 900$, a pair of RF-63 is 1650$ (prices in Germany). A pair of new horn drivers is with 100$ including shipping pretty cheap. That why I would try the mod. And if i keep the original horn drivers i also don't loose the warranty.
  19. I guess I will do that. Does somebody got the part number of the larger tweeter? I haven't found it yet.
  20. What do you mean with 'motors' ? The horn consits of two parts. The plastic front, building the horn shape, an the horn driver (which i would name as 'motor'). BOTH, the plastic front AND the horn driver are f.e. the same in RB-61, RF-62, RF-82 (its the K-152-N Tweeter). The crossover for RF-62 is 1800Hz. For RB-61 and RF-82 its 2000Hz. So the crossover is different. The Point is, that i can't believe you would trow the frequency responce out of balance. Since when I would'nt change the crossover, the new tweeter would get the signal the old tweeter got before. Then there are two possibilities: 1. The new tweeter is doing everything better (best case), 2. The tweeter got another impendance, and you need another resistor in the crossover. The reason why i believe it is so simple is easy. Look inside the Klipsch speaker. there are no filters or anything. its a simple crossover. after seeing this and if you look on the large reference programm, the are only a few horn drivers unsed. In so many different speakers with different crossovers. all that makes me believe it is possible. Actually the RC-64 is pretty similar to the RF-82.
  21. Are you sure? Klipsch uses the same horn driver for: RF-52, 62, 82, RB-51,61,81. They all got different crossovers in it. Also compare it to the center RC-62 f.e.. This speaker is so different to the RF-82 but the use the same horn driver. It is not true that the speakers are THAT specific. They all use nearly the same components. Klipsch speakers are pretty simple. Just look inside. The only thing i expect to be the problem is maybe a difference in the volume. Maybe the new driver in louder? Don't know. But thats the reason i'm asking.
  22. Hi, I own a pair of RF-82 speakers and wondering if it is possible to replace the tweeter with the one from the larger RFs. Anyone tried it yet? I guess it would be worth a try. I found the RF-82 tweeter on ebay for sale but not the one for the larger RFs. Does somebody got the Klipsch Part Number? My next step would be to contact the Klipsch support. But I wanted to try the forum first. If anyone got some hints for RF tuning: You're welcome Regards from Germany Robert
