  1. Larry, wow, what a beautiful room and every piece is puposfully placed. I too would be hard pressed to change what appears to be perfect decor. In fact, that's not really my forte but I do appreciate a room that is not too full. Thanks, Nic
  2. al, quoting Home Theater Magazine, Jan 2012, article entitled Panama Escape, under DIY: Reader Home Theater by Octavio Vollarino. The look of the room intrigued me and thus more intence interest and study..."I consulted with Chris Huston of Rives Audio in Coralville, Iowa...impressed with his simple solution...My first priority was to ensure the room was treated for optimum performance. Following Huston's desgn...It measures 23 by 15.5 by 10 feet, which follows the recommened rectangular proportions of 2.33 X 1.56 X 1 This ratio provides good distribution of room resonances. These dimensions also give the sense of a very cozy environment." The centerpiece of his room is the projector and he's got good electornics. I'm not familiar with the speaker set-up but they look good. That's the skinny. Thanks for your interest. Its important to me because I'm under construcion right now...very slowly. Nic
  3. al, Reread your post and my answer was there all the time. Thank you, Nic
  4. al, I'm glad you asked that question since I do not understand ratios well enough to answer that question and I'm guessing you could tell me how my dimentions (24' X 16' X 8') works in that ratio. Many Thanks, Nicky
  5. Khorns, hoping mine is part of your enjoyment. Nic
  6. Skule, No one needs a surround sub system like I have. Its just about personal taste...I have five subs just in case you missed that. I feel really close to you in understanding the absolute value of Palladiums without the money thing. The absolute value in terms of my enjoyment and the enrichment of my life and personal happiness is very high and I think you understand that. Money is another factor completely. When I realized this was probably a lifetime investment the cost became irrelevant. Ammortized over at least ten years the cost is small especially since I paid about half price for everything but the center which i got about 15% off on. Thanks for staying in touch and if you want me to say more about the subs I will; I think you're happy as you are and as you should be. Nic
  7. abj, Curtains are great. My brother has a gift for this and he is doing a false wall and a stage for me. Remember all theaters have curtains. Nic
  8. Gary, I make the same offer on LI but so far no takers. I've had a few day visitors who understand the passion and it has turned out to be hours instead of the original intended few minutes. Only a few can really understand. Nic
  9. This is a beautiful picture. Nic
  10. Thanks Bill. Its going to take me a good six months to get over this not to mention getting it to peform at its peak. Right now its already seamless. Thanks again for taking the time. This is a big one for me. Nic
  11. ab, I like it, especially the intrigued come hither look on the womans face in the lower left; Speakers and cones are always great. Nicky
  12. Thanks, Ceca; I was concerned that it was a bit bragadoccio. Cool, It worked. Nici
  13. Ceca, It sounds like nothing I've ever heard before. It is very mellow similar to a tuba. It is real tight. Of course it has house collapsing power. The driver feels like iron to the touch and it is so taught or tightly fastened which is why I think it is so quick for an 18. The delivery men had never heard one and they stood there with their jaws dropped open. One of them was a tech and he said he wants one now. They said its a seamless blend between it and the rest of my system which includes five subs in a surround configuration, They said the system was worthy of a spotlight in a magazine; Including the marginal appearance due to the unfinished nature of room. John said it was an "honor" fo hear such a fine system and Gary, also from Safe and Sound was in agreement. It sounds wonderful and exceeds my expections by far which is a lot to say for a few hours of set-up and trial. I know its going to get better as I learn the controls. Its a real asset to have the remote for it that adjusts everything from my seat. The appeaance is imposing and beautiful; It looks like the classic Chris Craft speed boats with lighter and dark boards next to one another and buffed to a piano high gloss finish; It is long enough (deep enough) to give the analagous appearance of a large metro bus comming down the road ecxept it has a slight tail more like the classic Chris Craft; I'm told that helps to nullify standing waves and there has been some minor debate around this. That's my preliminary report after about seven hours. I forgot to kiss it goodbye before I left for work. My wife, who helped me to obtain it never gets ignored that way. Cheers all and thank you once more for encouraging me to go for it all. Nici (pronounced Nicky...that's the name I like the best for me. It sounds better! The reason why I'm spelling it that way is that it saves me one letter which over the course of my life will save me about three minutes,,,Ha!). I believe Stereophile, whom I respect the most, called this a top three world class sub with the new B&W and a pair of JL 113s. That's my epilogue.
  14. Wow, Sunburn Willy, What luck! Today's the day; No pallat but hand delivery and set up included (for some cash on the side--its fine with me, I need the help), Awesome Willy, Thanks for the message and great pic. Nic PS get it Picnic?? Goof ball I am.
  15. All, Thanks again for sticking with me through these 15 days. Much appreciated. Full report with pics forthcoming. N
  16. Gents, according to HT Magazine the optimal ratio for the dimensions of your theater, big or small, is 2.33:1.56:1. Hope that is interesting. N
  17. D and 1976, True enough and especially if it meets the criteria for the ideal space which I'm going to guess this one does. There is a ratio, which escapes me at the moment, that tells you if your room dimensions are correct. I'll look it up and get back to you. N
  18. Datsun, One thing I've found when I was stuffed into a small space is things change. My theater is growing. N
  19. 1976, all I can say,at first glance, is awesome at least on your asthetic taste. If I had more tme I could say more; i have to get ready for work an I am very busy with my own theater. I was so impressed, I had to, at lleast say something to you about your wonderful inspiring work. Nic
  20. Datsun, One of the most challenging things for me is finding room for everything so I appreciate your dilemma; It looks pretty neat at first glance. Nic
  21. Ok L, I'm not going to shove anything down your throat. If you ever get up this way you're welcome to see the little ones I have. They are about the size of two shoe boxes and I'm one who hates clutter so I know what you mean. You could also check out my Palladiums. We even have guest accomodateions for a weekend for you and your wife. I know its a bit much but I love company that understands the passion we have for AV or at least audio. Just be a good guest. N
  22. L, You could always try a small one though I hear a lot of members say Horns don't need a sub. Are you on the Island? N
  23. Hi Larry, Having trouble rembering and want to let you know I ordered a Velodyne DD18 plus to add to other subs listed in my system profie and signature. Hope that helps and when I'm less squeezed for time I'll check back as I'm intrigued by your post. Thanks, Nic
