  1. Hi All, just thought I would give an update to anyone who is interested,or might want to try this. I picked up a set of 511b's and mounted the 902's on them. I set them on top of the Khorns and unhooked the k55's and hooked up the 902's. Well I have to say it is a definite improvement. Now, of course, the 511 horn is gonna sound better than the 401 anyway but the 902's sounds so much sweeter. Even at high volume. No buzzing, no harshness, just fuller sound. Haven't tried hooking the k55's to the 511's yet (not positive I can) but will try someday and post my impression of that if it is worthwhile. Also wanted to say how much I enjoy this forum. You guys are great! Marty
  2. Hey Balmer, I have two Cary CAD300se amps running my Khorns. I've run them with an Anthem pre2L preamp (low price-good value) for 2 channel. I have a sunfire tgpII for HT that sounds really, really good in 2channel and in 5.1. I have tried them with a Rotel SS preamp also. All three preamps have a different sound, but none of them are "in your face". I have the alk universal network, but am running everything else stock. I have run the khorns with a Bryston 4bst (a very good amp) and a Rotel 1080 (?) amp both around 200+ wpc. They both sounded pretty good as well but I did get that annoying intensity (best I can describe it) from them at high volumes. With the Cary SET amps it sounds so much better. Hard for me to verbalize, but just more enjoyable to hear. When the beer gets to flowing and a good song (AC/DC live at Donnington castle-DVD, to name a few ) I have been known to turn them to full volume and they sound just as good, and very, very loud. Dont want to do that for too long (HUH!!!), but you can! Anyway I am by no means done experimenting but really got lucky with the cary amps. Got both for 2 grand. I did try an anthem amp 1 with them but like the cary's better, although the anthem sounds better than SS amps. Hope this helps. Marty
  3. I just discovered this thread. The web site to view the build photos is no longer available. Anybody know how to find these again? Thanks, Marty
  4. Thanks Carl. I appreciate the direct answer. What type of active crossover do you use?
  5. So........What I'm hearing, I think, is that it can be done. Will probably sound better. And the 902's wont go up in a puff of smoke[:'(] . I am contemplating the trachorns with the 902's. I am also contemplating Jubes, but one thing at a time. It doesn't sound like any of you who used the altecs actually used them on the the stock klipsch mid horns. Is it doable? Will the ALK universal network I have get me in the ballpark? I have read enough from you guys to learn that the k55 driver works very well if you just upgrade to the trachorn or 511. But I do know that the 902's are a very nice sounding driver, and I already own a pair, so........... I hope this isnt something that has been discussed to death already. So at risk of being a pain I ask those of you who have used the 902's on khorns, how exactly did you do it, and in your opinion was it a good upgrade? Thanks, Marty
  6. Greetings fellow Klipsch lovers. I am a long time Klipsch fanatic and am new to the forum. My question is this....... I have a set of altec 902-8t's I want to try out on my khorns. Where can I find the adaptors for the klipsch 400 horn? Also I seem to remember that the 8 ohm altec drivers will work with the ALK universal networks I have in my Khorns. I just don't know the proper connections to make on the transformer leads (xo1234 etc,). Anybody with experience in this please chime in. Thanks, Marty
