  1. Hey guys, fenderbender and others gave me some hlpful advice. Just curious if any of the many forte' owners here have experienced what I have(see original post). I doubt I'll take the woofer or the PR out untill I they sound bad. Right now everything sounds great but I may be used to listening to a woofer that's not optimal. Any more thoughts? Just trying to keep my forte's at there best.
  2. fenderbender, thanks for the reply. I've had the tweeter and mid horns out a few years ago to check contact on the wire but I'm scared to death to mess with the woofer or the PR which have never been touched. It's interesting, Iv'e only heard the rattle while playing the particular JT track I mentioned. Even when I play pipe organ music I've never noticed it. The speakers sound great. The rattle just has me very curious. Cheers,
  3. Hello all, I'm a long time lurker and a relatively new member. I'm also the original owner of a sweet pair of WO forte's, '88 vintage. Bought 'em because I wanted some real HiFi speakers to replace my Pioneers that came with the sweet Pioneer rack system I scored for barely graduating from high school.[] I've loved them from day one. Even way before I knew what HiFi really was and way, way before I knew what an audiophile was. I'm glad to say that I'm a recovering audiophile and that I'm very grateful that during the six odd years that I pursued everything that was supposed to be better than my forte's that they were never in jeopardy of leaving my possession[]. Anyway, I was listening to some James Taylor today while repositioning my speakers when I noticed during a deep bass note that there was a muted rattle coming from the speaker. I've always noticed this during the song "Up From Your Life" off JT's album "Hourglass" and have always attributed it to someting in the room getting excited from the low bass notes(not me but something actually part of the room). BTW, if you want to know how low your speakers go, throw on "Hourglass" and find out.[] So, what is it? The woofer, the brace......? Hope I've provided the right info. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Scott
  4. Thanks Dave for the heads up on this outstanding recording. Recieved my copy last Friday.Just beautiful. Makes you feel like your there. I just get lost in the music then I realise, as you said, it's a system test and I have fun with the imaging, soundstaging and tonality.Talk about DEEP bass. A post like this is some of the best of what the internet has to offer. Thanks for taking the time to post this Dave. Otherwise I would have never known about such a wonderful recording. Not only good for the ears but for the soul. Since I enoyed this recommendation so much, what else do you recommend? One that I enjoy listening to that features pipe organ and saxaphone in a great space is called "Antiphone Blues". My redbook version doesn't have the deep bass captured as well but it is beautiful music and it caprtures the space well. There is a HDCD and SACD version I believe. Thanks again for taking the time to tell us about "Instruments Of The Praise". Cheers, Scott
  5. From my experience I would say playing music through the caps helps the process along for burn in and I also believe "goosing" it a bit with the volume helps to. Just seems to be what my ears hear. Enjoy. Cheers
  6. Hey DT, Thanks for posting your thoughts and pictures of the K-horns. Always enjoy reading how people feel about them and really enjoy picures of them and how they are set up. Happy Thanksgiving. Cheers, Scott
  7. Hey guys, any thoughts? Looking at the Klipsch manual that came with my speakers there seems to be a hump on the CW II around 80Hz which I believe I would like because that's were my Forte's seem to be lacking, although If I get them in the corners at 45 degrees that isn't nearly as noticeable. The prospect of an ever bigger soundstage than I'm enjoying now is very tempting. Thanks. Cheers
  8. Ok guys, looks like if I'm honest my room is too small to get the K-horns working to their full potential. Besides even if they did sound good I'm the kind of guy that would be saying the whole time, "what would they sound like if I had 48" from the corner to the opening and 9' ceilings."[^o)]. So, if you don't mind another question. What would I gain or change moving up to Cornwalls from my Forte's? Thanks for any input. Cheers
  9. Thanks for all the input guys. Looks like my next logical step in my room and equipment would be the Cornwalls. If anybody knows of dealers or private owners in Ohio, east central Indiana (Indianapolis, Richmond etc.) or Northern Kentucky that demo the Cornwall III let me know. Thanks. Scott
  10. Thanks for all the replies guys. Great feedback. The bass you've descibed for the Cornwall is exactly what I like and I feel the Forte's do a very good job at this. All the bass I can get as long as it doesn't overwhelm the rest of the music. About the only thing I'd like better from my Forte's is a little fuller lower mid/mid response. I listen to rock, pop, country, classical and jazz but mostly pop/rock. I'm in southwest Ohio.
  11. What would the Cornwall III give me over my Forte's? Thanks for any thoughts.
  12. Thanks for the link. If I were to put the k-horns on the short or long wall I would only have 36" from corner to opening on three of the four corners. The fourth corner has about 56" from corner to opening. I'm afraid performance would be affected and that's the last thing I'd want.
  13. Thanks for the reply Coytee, Judging from my room dimentions from the original post, do I have an appropriate room for k-horns? I've just started reading a little about the "Jubilee". Are they a special order speaker from Klipsch? Cheers
  14. Hello all, Hope all is well. Sorry about another k-horn question but my eyes are red trying to find a post about my specific situation.[H] I'm the original owner of a pair of '88 Forte's and I love them. But of course I wonder what jumping up to k-horns someday would get me. Keep in mind that if I did move up to k-horns I would more than likely go with a new pair. Also, even though I love tube equipment I do not wanto to change from my current NAD equipment. My room is approx. 12' 9"W x 16' 6"L x 8'H. with about a six foot opening on both short walls. One goes into another room approx. 10'x13' and the other leads into an entryway about 4'x15'. The Forte's are currently on one of the short walls about 10.5' ft apart in the corners directed at the listening chair. It's funny how people say that Forte's can't do depth. Put an opening into another room between them and you'll swear you have music coming from behind the back wall of the other room.[] If I could change anything on my Forte's I would want a little richer lower mid but that's nitpicking. Also, I love the bass the Forte's do. I would not want to lose any of the bass I have. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. If I've missed any info that would help you, let me know. Cheers, Scott
