  1. An MPG file is an MPEG compressed file. So.. if you go to download.com or another share/freeware site you can find tons of other MPeg or AVI movie players that should work great. J
  2. Jeremy... hope you're still checkin this post. I'm actually doing this and sharing a modem (no DSL in my area!) I'm using one machine with Windows ME (which has an easy to use "internet connection sharing" utility) and another machine (my wifes) which has Windows98 (she still has some Dos games she plays...) It's a cakewalk to make it work. You just go into network properties and set up one machine to be the proxy for the other. My wife can now fire up internet explorer and it makes my modem dial, even if I'm just playin a game. J There's a couple of "canned" programs that you can get as well. Wingate (Difficult to setup,) and Rideway (I use to use this~!) Good luck.
  3. I'm no Guru, but Codec stands for "coder-decoder!" It's the piece of software that encodes the video (or audio) into a bitstream and then it gets decoded back by the program. ~I think. The codec for the program is usually just part of the program. Check under control panel and go to sound & multimedia. There's a Device tab there.... (of course I'm running Windows ME, and yours might look different.) J
  4. I'm using a "Dazzle" (www.dazzle.com of course~!) It's USB and I can hook up a camcorder or VCR for inputs to the PC, and output to TV or my monitor. It captures the video, I edit using Ulead Media Studio Pro (an excellent product) and it's a breeze. Spendy though. I paid $250 for the Dazzle. My new GeForce card has video in, but I haven't tried to use it yet. Might be sellin the Dazzle....! J
