  1. Thanks tarheel Don couldn't have known that Fed-X would show up early in the morning. I was fairly coherent, luckily I'm strictly an herb and red wine man in the A.M. Hoping to make the road trip this spring or sommer.
  2. I've just installed one of the new ALK networks bluesboy built. I put on a Mono original Parlophone of the Beatles "Rubber Soul" to get a good comparison between the old and new crossovers. There is no comparison! It's like a vail has been lifted from the left speaker. The separation between instruments is amazing. Piano is especially clearer. My son, home from WSU for the weekend, said "the bass in the right speaker sounds blurred". He's right, the bass is much tighter with the new network. Only difficulty with the install was with the widthe of the spades, I had to trim a sliver from the outsides of each of them to get a fit on the new barrier strips. Don has been telling me for years that the sound of my Cornwalls had slowly deteriorated over the years. I had an idea he was right, but living with them every day it is hard to perceive such a slow decline. Well I'm no audio review journalist so just understand that the difference here would be evident to any novice. I'll try to post some pictures later. I'm gonna change out the other crossover now and listen to some more music. Thanks Don
  3. Don, I'm practically drooling on the keyboard. Must have been 2 years ago when you first offered to build these and I was very hesitant to mess with my Cornwalls. After poking around the Klipsch forum and reading other posts like Marks I am very anxious to upgrade.
  4. Great speakers and a great thread. Do you know anything about the history of these K-horns? Did you buy them together? With one being sold in '54 and the other from '56 it seems likely an early audiophile was wanting to move up to stereo.
  5. "Play around with for a couple of weeks" what the?....don't start talkin' crazy Don. I'll give a full review after I install them. If I'm having too much fun and get to far into the Oban I may be a day or 2 late with my report.
  6. Thanks for the welcome Tarheel. I've got a few stories concerning a more youthful bluesboy, but this is hardly the place for tales of debauchery. I'll take that Oban shipment under consideration. As a former Postal worker I'm aware of the prohibitions on alcohol shipment and how to evade them. I'd really like to make a lengthy roadtrip east to visit blueboy. Speaking of debauchery and roadtrips, you might get Don to tell about trips to Bellingham, Vegas and LA.. Nice meeting you
  7. I've hung around the Klipsch forums before but just registered to post concerning the crossovers bluesboy is building for me. As he says I've never had the backs off my '75 Cornwalls and I had no idea until I saw his pictures how much there was to them. They look great. I know he does quality work as I'm still using a record/equipment rack that he custom built for me 30 years ago. Bluesboy and I have quite a history with this pair of Cornwalls. Powered by a McIntosh MC2205 we used to listen to them at ear shattering levels. We actually used the full 200wpc of the Mac on occasion and, as efficient as the Cornwalls are, they were still unharmed by that much wattage. I have since gotten a much more suitable MC225 (25wpc tube amp) that I am very happy with. I have long suspected that they could use a refreshing or upgrade to the crossovers and am anxious to hear them. I've got plenty of Oban here, or I'll buy the single malt of your choice, and we'll give them a good workout the next time your back on the west coast bluesboy.
