  1. hi all, iv traded my celestions for a tube amp for headfones . it gives around 2 watts of output . pretty sufficient for any pair of headfones , i guess. my headfones are fostex tp20 , 50 ohms. i wonder if id get the out put from the amp and play RF3s
  2. compared to some other brands like the paradigms and b&ws , the klipsch cabinets have been a lot less impressive !!!! the others being heavier and better toned ,they definitely look and feel better . perhaps if we swap the drivers from klipsch to a paradigm studio 100s and vice versa ,and play them (provided the crossover settings are optimized out first) , it would be fun to note the difference ... the liveliness of klipsch may also have something to do with the shallow thudd of its cabinets . it may sound lifeless in those other cabinets that are better damped or neutral sounding . anyways klipsch rocks in its cabinets ,nonetheless.
  3. pauln, thanks for the quote... its heartening to know that ou cheaper klipsch are well at par with crazily priced systems out there. and then klipsch again beats the shh.... out of a number of speakers when it comes to great dynamics , loudness, and clarity with loudness. though not as detailed perhaps as the wilson duette or the fostex monitor speakers that i have heard so far, the klipsch do excel in overall range of dynamics and at keeps up its quality of sound as far as the amplifier affords. the RF3s that i own so far ,have been very nice sounding . and i was surprised even more when i heard the KG.5 speakers. they are surprisingly good at the size that they have and the kind of sound they produce. and if i hide em behind a curtain or something and audition some friend , they wouldnt say its a smallish speaker . price does bring us quality , but then again careful matching with the mega dollar speakers to sound at their best is imminent , otherwise the sound goes to the dogs.[] im happy for what PWKs engineering has brought for us at such an affordable price.thanks paul. []
  4. well said tragusa3 , anyone here is welcome to take this thread that ways . id also like to compare so. 2-5 k klipsches run with some decent tube amps, compared to million dollar speakers run with whatever they want .
  5. i know its a loose ball, but lets just let it go[] . many of the forum members have had experiences with exotic audio systems.so perhaps let them chime in.
  6. quote from that thread................. While it was fun playing around with this meter I will give my ears always the final judgement. Hey, the RF-3's are (musicaly) very nice speakers !!!! ....................then he mentioned the 803s to have reproduced the same kindda responce [], so the dips were coz of his radioshack meter. well thanks skydover , that was a help. !!! now i like rf3s a lot more ,lolz
  7. 15800 hz was as high as i could go. no further. used headfones for the test. but i wonder if any of the original thread members are listening . its an old thread.[]
  8. JJKIZAK, is this calculated guess . coz maybe 98 db speakers in near ideal condition would need just a single 1 watt to give 98 dbs[]
  9. Emmwette, Perhaps u named urself after ur avatar ride, corvette;) Well I m happy to buy these amps for anything under 600 dollars, but this shipment thing and cargo fare ,sucks bigtime.
  10. [] there are a number of other reference line speakers whose graphs were available . but im interested in the 3s. i noticed a dip in the mdbass region , when they were compared to a fostex bookshelf at low volume listening .
  11. as always ,the whole klipsch story ultimately comes down toTUBES ( imho) giving THE best results for low to moderate vol listening in a small to medium sized room compared to other amplifier categories in general. henceforth , i set my eyes on a couple of amps to work on.but they were pretty expensive for me . i wonder whats the bare minimum amount needed to get hold of a tube amp , a good quality amp!!! are tubes usually better contenders at sound neatness and quality compared to S.S. class A designs ???
  12. GUYS, last night i tried out the out put from my dvd player and used it to run my headfones which are slightly demanding of an amp. the sound was there but it wasnt loud at all and also there wasnt enough oomph and grammage. guess there were hardly enough watts to feeed the HP. i connected 2 other headfones . and the sound was louder owing to their different sensitivities. i then used the marantz 2230 pre amp out and fed it to the 3 HPs. and the sound was still the same ol boring. i guess these tweaks wont be enough . and only a dedicated headfone amplifier would do !!!
  13. oops , my bad !!! it was cecaa . i second his opinion. .get pre amps.
  14. jacksons been like this all his life . ignore him . we all do . welcome to the forum. get a pre amplifier . go with what russ says .
  15. guys, bear with me plz, in my land ,tube amps scarce .......scarce as it would be a mc donalds burger outlet in the gobi desert !!!! period . i dont find people here owning em ,keeping or using em for music . even if they do own their grandpas 1960s radio they wouldnt know there were tubes in it powering em all these years . i ran across a hifi store where they had guitars . and a few customers were trying em too. they were plugged to a guitar amp. from various makes . behringer and marshal etc, the guy told me it was tube powered . hence it occured to me if i could get that amp to work for me in my stereo. would that be a sane thing to do. i mean perhaps the amp has 30 -20k hz range , which would do good for music playback at home . hope its not just limited to the bandwith of a guitar . the shopkeeper was asking $80 to $300 for those amps. rated at 6 to 18 watts . ,
  16. im glad to hear that you have a nice sounding rig now. but dude i felt my RF3s never got their share of the low end through this amp . it wasnt the fault of the amp. i realised later as i disconnected the pre amp that mitsubishi sent with it . the DA-P7.and connected the pre amp outs of the quad 33. tha bass was there the highs were better and the overall warmth and pleasure came in . the diatone mitsubishi pre amp is a crap. imho. very accurate and clinical but not musical enough to keep me sitting in the couch .thats just my own personal experience ,mind it . which pre amp are you using with it .
  17. hey russ, when i read reviews about this 22xx series marantz amps and saw the huge following ,it was pretty obvious for me that these are a better gear . but i got a bit depressed when compared em to the better gears out there . ofcourse the reviews donot tell how good they actually are .you have to compare to believe it . youre right that there are a lot more than these vintage marantz . okay , now i wonder how the newer marantz 7001 etc etc series are gonna sound when they get compared to these old vintage amps(22xx) that have been properly restored to new. can you share your experiences
  18. thanks william . i read a couple of topics related to the ohm thing. i dont get what they say . i mean heck ! 1) which is a difficult load . 500 ohm headfone or a 50 ohm headfone . what i understand from the loudspeaker world is that the 8 ohm rated speakers are far easier loads than 3.2 ohm speakers . is it the same for headfones too? 2) ..if the ohm ratings are the same for two HPs , will there be difference of sensitivity in both ? thanks again if you can explain in english plz . im a doctor of medicine not electronics . lolz . and whats the role of sensitivity rating of a given headfone?
  19. welcome to the land of klipsch . im sure youll get tonnes of reviews and opinions if youd post it in the two channel audio section. coz theres nothing much technical about it i guess.
